In name only, much like North Korea is a Democratic Republic.

    they were not socialist.

    not unless you redefine "socialism".

I don't know why you guys think "North Korea is a Democratic Republic" is a reasonable talking point. Virtually every nation, including the totalitarian ones, call themselves some version of that. That's nothing to do with a socialist party calling itself a socialist party.

Redefined from what? From the Marx-Engels definition or the way it's been commonly used the past century? Is Bernie Sanders a socialist?

That's even dumber than the North Korea talking point.

Bernie Sanders wants The People to control all large industries and employers.

he wants all corporations to be forced to pay fair wages and be forced to allow the workers a big share of controlling board members. he wants to pass laws to make it as hard as possible for employers and corporations to exploit their workers.

yes, I'd say Bernie is a Socialist?

Hitler, let corporations use slave labor to get rich. Thats not socialism.

Hitler believed in a racial hierarchy, where the "master" race was on top, and the "lower" races were slaves, or executed. That's not socialism.

So Bernie, who apparently doesn't want to nationalize all private industries, and instead wants to tell them what to do, is a socialist, but Hitler, who wanted the same thing isn't?

    Heh!

    Bernie is a Socialist-lite.

he doesnt want full nationalization, but he does want significant employee say in how all large companies are run.

thats definitely socialism, just not full socialism

So that's not how Marx and Engels would define socialism. I guess the meaning is flexible. Bernie sounds like he would agree with much of the Nazi's on economics (heh, maybe not so much the other stuff!).

there is some flexibility in the what is considered a socialist, Bernie is a definitely not a full socialist as he believes in allowing private companies.

but he wants to severally regulate them to protect workers

because their embracing of wealthy Elite industrialists to abuse the working class and slave laborers, is the antithesis of Socialism.

their racist hierarchy was also very anti-Socialist

So enacting the war measures act is socialism?

Funny you are aware of the multiple variations on the basic common theme of socialism - social ownership of the means of production

Perhaps you should re-consider your mccarthy bumpersticker - democrats are all evil socialists!

Something tells me you wont tho..

Wow. That's some perspective you have on trump. Perhaps you can point out ho much like Ikes leadership in beating the crap outta the nazi and trumps brave leadership in the face of the worst public health crisis the nation has ever faced. Courage, and a 2:00 pm tee time go hand in hand I guess.

By that definition you must agree North Korea is a democratic utopia. The nazi's had a few socialist ideas that actually did some good. Doesnt make the genocides and worker exploitation they perpetrated any less evil. These black and white threads get on my nerves.

Yeah - as soon as one saw the title of this thread .. you knew that the label game was going to be played - or perhaps more aptly it should be called the "label fallacy game"

This is where you put all the nastiest things you can find into a basket - that someone (group) has done - that may have called themselves socialist - or have some relation to socialism - and pretend that defines all of socialism..

A form of generalization fallacy on steroids - by folks who should know better by now.
