Which would explain Obama having his exalted, half-black ass kicked mercilessly every single time he ever had a confrontation with Vladimir Putin...?

I was going by the NYT's account of his debts, and Forbes' account of his assets. No, of course I am not sure that either is accurate... but I can comment on my guess that he is not about to go broke and to sell our national secrets to the highest bidder.

I think that the thread title can well be addressed without any need to determine the reasons which underlie Trump's actions.

As I referenced back in post #11, he has already proven on at least one occasion to be untrustworthy with keeping shared allied intelligence confidential from Russia.

This occurred just slightly past his first 100 days in office, on day 110.

Also as I already mentioned, he returned from another private meeting with Putin in Brazil and within two weeks announced a new Syrian policy that resulted in Mattis's resignation. A part of this policy included abandoning Kurdish allies that have supported the US in that region for almost two decades.

If he can't keep from making secret transactions with Putin and Russia while he's in office, why would there be any doubt that he would cease and desist once he is out of office?

The term transactional has become common to describe many aspects of Trump's actions, behavior and demeanor.

It seems a bit less than a stretch to me, that should he continue to receive confidential intelligence, as he theoretically negotiates some future international deal located in a country with which such intelligence should not be divulged, that he would have no problem doing so if it helped him complete the deal.

I think that part of what motivates him is maybe a firm belief that if it's good for him, then by definition it's good for the USA.

I think a lot of his supporters believe this too.

And I think both he and they are generally incorrect with this type of autocratic theology.

He was also a former director of the CIA, and read in on things most Presidents weren't.

Very good post, and fair points. You've generally convinced me to join your viewpoint.

Hopefully the combination of Trumps short attention span and officials holding back critical data will lessen the risk he poses.

He can just give multi-million dollar speeches for lobbyists, just like every other ex-president

True. But the question is one of his ability to keep national security secrets if he, by chance, is given access to them once he leaves office.
