No it is not for 2 reasons. First, using quotation marks for argument is improper as you were not quoting anyone. While common, it is improper. Second is that your usage of commas is incorrect. This would be the correct punctuation:

Amazing how Conservatives always get personal, especially when their arguments are not really arguments at all, but, rather, screeds that assume facts not in evidence.
    OR
Amazing how Conservatives always get personal, especially when their "arguments" are not really arguments at all, but rather are screeds that assume facts not in evidence.

"Rather" is a wrong choice as well. A correct would would be:

Semantic nitpicking of your content does not refute your position and is a sure sign that the other person has conceded their inferior position to your superior one.

Ahem. As a professional Grammar Nazi - that is, a teacher - my spider-senses tingle when these types of conversations occur.

Were Stat's post being graded, I would be far less concerned with the "but rather" and more concerned with the excessive use of the comma.

Now look. Christmas Break has started. This is when I REALLY start making mistakes on posts just because I haveta be perfect while on the clock. That's why I split infinitives all the time, deliberately make typos, and use words like wanna, cuz I wanna. Eventually I am gonna ask the mods here to appoint me as the PF Grammar Mod. I won't be able to ban people, just correct mistakes they make while posting and ESPECIALLY when they correct other people's mistakes. You don't want me to start doing that.

I'll say this much: The sentence in blue is absolutely true. There's a poster here who has yet to complain about someone else's grammar without making three times as many mistakes of his own. I always correct his posts when he does that and add in my own snark for free. Cuz - he deserves it.

The bottom line here is - please don't be a Grammar Nazi here. It offends those of us who are professionals at it.

    Thank you.

I'd like to know what it means to "split infinitives." Sounds like fun.

It's depends on whether her delicious infinitives are worth splitting.

If you're splitting infinitives, aren't you just adding extra words?

The most famous split infinitive is from the opening of Star Trek: TOS where Kirk says "To boldly go ..." Long story short, it's when you put some word (usually an adverb) between to and the verb. It's not looked down on quite as much as it used to be, but many English teachers still don't like it. I don't push it much in my class but I do make the kids aware of it. I would actually say more but I'm still asleep - I have people taking down two trees today and they decided I would be their first call. This being the first day of Christmas Break, I kinda hoped I could sleep in. So much for that.

Sorry, Stat. Any teacher reading that post would see those commas and have a field day with the red pens. If it means anything, I wouldn't have any issue with using "rather" the way you did.

I understand the Green Party is appointing electors for all 50 states to send to Washington ... cause, why not. You know - just in case.

According to Google, "She seems to really like it," would be a split infinitive.

Ok, I can deal with this.

Finally, an issue where Liberals and Conservatives are in agreement.

The fact there is nothing showing any involvement by Trump or Trump's legal team is not the point. No one is alleging that the Trump camp was involved. The point is that it was an attempt at voter fraud. There is no lie.
