A new proposal in the House of Representatives could eliminate gendered language from its rules

The House of Representatives on Sunday is set to vote on a series of changes that would eliminate all gendered words like "mother," "father," "he," and "she" from its rules.

In addition to these specific words, the proposal outlines dozens of other shifts to gender-neutral language, as well as the establishment of an "Office of Diversity and Inclusion."

My question is for anyone who has an issue with being called a father, son, he, etc. Why does your preference of title require everyone else changing their vocabulary? Why not just correct them by saying "Please call me (Fill in blank)?

 

I agree it isn't a top priority, but I also understand anyone who cringes a bit when they're misgendered. What the House is doing is pretty minor, and doesn't appear to be some crackdown on the use of particular language. It's just an inclusion step. Really, folks who somehow feel offended or enraged by this change are probably part of the reason it's so important.

Even if we got rid of "he" and "she" to appease the snowflakes, getting rid of "father" and "son" etc seems unnecessarily stupid and confusing.

 

This sounds like people changing the world for themselves, though. They're changing their work environment, at least. *shrug* I don't know. When minority folks tell me something affects them, I tend to listen and let little stuff like this go.

Most kids are to fat and those who arent are simply to soft.

What about outlawing then any reference to gender identity? Outlawing any mention of LGBTQs, gays or any other such identifying language? Bet they don't do that.

Outlaw any mention of race too - ban words such as "black," "Latino," "People of Color" for any legislation, law or usage in the House. They won't do that either, will they?

The mayor of DC isn't calling in the National guard to stop the pro Trump visitors... they've been called in to stop the Antifa weirdos from starting a war in the streets.

 

If Georgia goes liberal this kind of thing is possible. But will also lead to a red wave eventually if they do enough of this.

 

There are multitudes of proposals made in many place by many people that any one of us can and have agreed or disagreed with. Example the proposal which will materialize in Congressional activity and waste of time and resources by Congress called the opposition to the certification of Biden's victory. Reasonable, patriotic, non criminal men and women disagree with it. Yet the son of a "man" whose wife was lambasted as ugly and whose father was accused of being integral to the plot to profoundly end JFK from breathing will lead that exercise in stupidity and anti democratic and anti American activity.

why would we need them, race and gender are not needed in laws, laws should apply to everyone equally
