Why isn't Big Tech afraid of a future Republican government regulating them to hell and back?

Other than he's burned too many bridges with despicable conduct since he lost the election, and I put his absolute indifference to the impact of covid on the public and economy.

What do you mean you "PUT" his absolute indifference to the impact of covid on the public and economy?

Yeah, you're right actually. I have heard Zuckerberg saying that he is open to it. Dorsey on the other hand is probably somewhat less open!

Well then what did you mean by "at this moment, there is nothing that will bring back Trump into politics?"

The guy is a menace. He encouraged rightwing extremists to attack the Capitol and Congress.
No need for us to be duped by your argument. Trump forfeited his right to hold federal office by encouraging an attack on the government.

Because they have figured out how to never have a future Republican government. An also, Republicans claim to be the party of limited government and free enterprise, etc.. Would be kind of hypocritical to go after social media just cuz they c---blocked them.

No it's not REALLY 'going after' them in the traditional regulatory sense, because in the case of Section 230, it is REMOVING protections, as opposed to APPLYING new regulations.

I meant to write: "Other than he's burned too many bridges with despicable conduct since he lost the election, and I put his absolute indifference to the impact of covid on the public and economy as the worst of his bad behavior."

I think the Maxine Waters wing of the Jackass Party would like to see him stripped naked and dragged through the streets a la Ceaușescu.

The whole CDA should simply be overturned. That would solve a lot of problems.

Yes, it's part of American History. We don't put up with these Corporate Wannabe Oligarchs, we bust them down to size.

The Republicans did it last time and we will do it again.

Roosevelt filed lawsuits to dissolve more than 40 monopolies during his presidency.

Although he laid the groundwork for trust-busting, many of the monopolies he targeted were actually dissolved during William Howard Taft's administration (1909-1913).

Standard Oil controlled 90% of the United States oil market. Through the Standard Oil Trust, J.D. Rockefeller controlled the refining, distribution, and marketing aspects of the oil industry. In 1911, the Supreme Court found Standard Oil guilty of violating anti-trust regulations, leading the monopoly to be broken up into 34 separate companies.

That is what "bust them up" means. The key is the coordination. When Twitter drove conservatives off Twitter, they still might have prevailed, when they fled to Parlor, they still might have prevailed, but when Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest jumped in and then Google, Android, and Apple blocked Parlor? They drove the stake through their own hearts. That kind of coordinated predatory attack by big massive corporations on small upstarts is illegal in the United States. We do not stand for it.

In 1911, the Supreme Court also ruled that the American Tobacco Company, the Durham Tobacco Company, and the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company had violated the 1890 Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The American Tobacco Company was formed through the mergers of five large cigarette manufacturers. The 1911 broke up the cigarette monopolies.

The Northern Securities Trust and the Beef Trust were also broken up. The Beef Trust was made up of six leading meatpacking companies (Swift, Armour, Morris, Cudahy, Wilson and Schwartzchild), which controlled half of the American meat industry. The Supreme Court took a hatchet to the meat monopoly in 1905. The railroad and meatpacking industries were also broken up by Theodore Roosevelt with more trusts busted up during Taft's presidency.

"I believe that monopolies, unjust discriminations, which prevent or cripple competition, fraudulent overcapitalization, and other evils in trust organizations and practices which injuriously affect interstate trade can be prevented under the power of the Congress..."
-Theodore Roosevelt, State of the Union 1902

I'm a little surprised that these Giant Social Media companies would act as obviously as they did this week, but, then a lot of supposed smart people did a lot of stupid things this week, and there will be a cost to that.

They still are enjoying their bloodlust, they will not enjoy the hangover:

IT WAS NEVER ABOUT SAFETY: Facebook Suspends Ron Paul Following Column Criticizing Big Tech Censorship: By suspending Ron Paul, it becomes clear that ‘safety’ may not be Big Tech’s primary goal.
These Censoring Techno-fascists Might As Well Enjoy It While It Lasts!

Trump will not be going to prison. But speaking of DC, remember Marion Berry was reelected while incarcerated for crack possession. There's a certain irony there...

    Fake News.

Republicans are against excessive regulation. We are all for sensible and necessary regulation.

Here is a link to our Contitution. Do a word search for "regulate" and "regulation" (or do both at once by searching it for "regulat". There are several areas where we charge the Federal Government sensible and necessary regulation, or, "to make regular"

I assume then that DC, at least back then, did not have a law against criminals entering office.

So then Elizabeth Warren and the Republicans should get on like a house on fire! I think she wants to break up big tech.

My guess is that Biden wants to counter extremist groups at both ends of the political spectrum.

Elizabeth Warren may or may not want to "break up big tech," but what she wants, good or bad, is largely irrelevant.
