Security in Washington D.C is being way overblown

Since, you posted this OPINION in the wrong section (as a deliberate tactic to pump up the view count, before it gets moved), I guess that I will weigh-in.

Your "Opinion" is Dead WRONG.

That is the type of security that they should have had on Jan. 6th.

Any attempt by Pro-Trump Domestic Terrorists (inspired by Trump) needs to be met with overwhelming force.

Personally, I think that there should be MORE Security.

After last werk, it is clear that Trump-Inspired Domestic Terrorists are capable of anything.

Once again, I fully support the increased security measures.

 

The over abundance of personell is a good thing. It's indicative of a change. The left finally supports law and order. They finally believe in funding and supporting the police.

 

People forget the obvious: As repellent as the prospect of violence at the inauguration is, there are LIMITS to the amount of weapons that can or should be used against our fellow American citizens.

No matter how much they disgust you whether Antifa or MAGA zealots, they are your political opponents. Not your enemies. We've all got to live in this country after all the shouting is over. And it will be over.

OK, so lets imagine that a mob of Muslims had a huge rally in DC, charged into the Capitol & killed a cop. Imagine that there was intel that thousands of Muslims planned to descend on the Capitol (and more on every state Capitol) to disrupt the inauguration. How many tanks would you be demanding? I'm not asking IF you would demand tanks, because I don't think we need to pretend about that, just give us a number. How many?

Once you get your head around the idea that white Americans are every bit as capable of violence, including on a large scale, as any other group then questions like this won't plague you so. Think of the people doing violencve as terrorists rather than 'decent Americans angrya at a stolen election' and you will see things quite differently.

Is it likely that .50 cals will be needed? No, not at all. Is it possible? Yes, very remotely. One of those present in the Capitol last week had a van full of explosives and a decent collection of firearms. It is not impossible to imagine someone more enterprising & determined doing something that might make a .50 cal a useful bit of kit. Letting people know you have them isn't necessarily a bad idea.

 

Those trolls don't pose that level of a threat. This has sadly become kabuki theater and thus it's the government we deserve. We should bemuse ourselves in laughter.

 

I do not understand, or in other words you say this as matter of fact. What are the LIMITS to the amount of weapons that can or should be used against our fellow American citizens? You say there are, but I see it as circumstantial. Even police have heavy machinery and arms depending on circumstance they use against American citizens.

 

It wouldn't be terribly difficult to fill an 18 wheeler with fertilizer explosive and send it onto the Capitol at high speed. I can't think of a whole lot under a 50cal that would stop it.
