McConnell's only motivation is becoming majority leader in '22. It is promising that he's trying to save the party by dumping Trump. Whether it works we don't know. If the GOP won't dump Trump, there are plenty of Republicans who could form a viable party.

And no, I see no reason why either Sotomayor or Kagan should have backed away from the court, for surely if they are not fit to serve than neither are Barrett, Gorsuch, or Kavanaugh!
