Trump talked out of pardoning kids and Republican lawmakers

    Excerpt
I'm not really shocked that they had to have this discussion with him. There have been rumblings about who he would try to pardon on his way out.

What do you think about this?

I think Humpty has had that Burdick case brought to his attention.

I honestly don't see how Trump doesn't see the writing on the wall that it's too late. Even if the Republicans don't vote to convict(unlikely), the Democrats certainly would. While he now wants to try again in 2024(hah, good luck) as a true independent the reality is, he'll never sniff the Presidency again.

Were I in his shoes, I absolutely would pardon myself. Because it's the one and only time the power will be allowed to me. I wouldn't count my eggs on Joe Biden pulling a Gerald Ford.

Trump lives in his own Universe where he is King. In that state, it's impossible to see the writing on the wall.

For Democrats, the most glorious thing about the collapse is that it was so massive, that it allowed those of us who wanted to think differently, those who didn't want to think the worst, those who clung on(and even yes, desperate 'trumpers') to see the truth of this man. Some too late after they stormed the capital for this idiot, thinking he was some revolutionary rebel instead of the coward he's been his entire life.

Outgoing Presidential pardons are the norm, so the pardons he did give, is not a surprise. Trump is going to have his own legal problems, and maybe his children too. The notion that people had to coach Trump had been going on for 4 yrs.

Right. I was commenting on the idea that he had to be talked out of pardoning his children. This hasn't been an issue in the past because no other POTUS put their own children in key Administration roles. I'm sure many procedures and protocols will be revamped in the wake of Trump's clear abuse of power.

I don't get it either since he is still a superstar musician living the good life. I guess criminal justice reform is a last-week sort of thing (just not for the guys I wanted). Would've been great to hear that Assange has been freed but I guess he'll die in court and then die in jail for doing his stuff.

Well it's has been a while, Kennedy for one, that actually hired family for offiicial White House duties. That should never have happened with Trump and hopefully it will be addressed now. The fact he had to be talked out of it, does not surprise me.

I think Trump should be able to have private meetings to discuss sensitive matters with his attorneys without it being leaked to the press every time.

Humans aren't good at keeping secrets. What do you propose can be done to stop ALL leaks?

Isn't it telling that whenever he doesn't do some abhorrent deed that everyone expected him to do, it is because his advisers with cooler heads had to talk him out of it. I wonder how many times that has happened in the last 4 years that we never heard about? They must have felt like babysitters.

Who says it was his attorneys who talked him out of it? Or were even in the room during the discussions?

Very telling. I always wondered why nobody could talk him out of ranting on Twitter.

We don’t really know who he pardoned. They don’t have to announce it. Secret pardons are apparently a thing.

I dunno but a President, whether it be Trump or Biden, should be able to discuss sensitive matters in private on a range of topics without *******s like Comey running to the press with it.
