It never did. That's a myth. As a person who does write death certificates (and has written thousands over the last 40 years) and thus is much better equipped to understand the issues, I can assure you that what is being said about this is grossly distorted, coming from people who don't know what they are saying (and don't understand how we write Part I and Part II of death certificates - the death-causing sequence of events in part I, and the co-morbidity in part II). I've explained it in detail multiple times in my posting history. If you have any interest in actually getting educated about it, you can just do an advanced search with the terms Death Certificate and CenterField as the author, and you'll find posts that explain the process. I do not, though, believe that you actually want to learn the truth. More likely you're just interested in keeping the myth going, for your political goals.

Hint: there is absolutely no overcounting of Covid-19 deaths going on. Whoever told you, is simply lying to you. There is significant undercounting, though. Not only due to the early cases that died at home or some nursing homes without testing or much medical scrutiny, but also due to a very important factor most are not paying attention to: mid-term complications.

I published recently a study showing re-hospitalizations in "recovered" Covid-19 "survivors" who come back to the hospital within 5 months of discharge, with Covid-19-caused complications like strokes, heart failure, new-onset diabetes, lung fibrosis, liver insufficiency, and kidney insufficiency, due to the striking effect of this virus on the endothelial cells of small blood vessels, causing coagulation problems and strokes, heart inflammation, destruction of the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, damage to the liver and the kidney, etc. More than 12% of those then die, and their deaths are not being counted as Covid-19 because they are relatively remote from the diagnosis, and by then they are SARS-CoV-2 negative. But make no mistake, these people wouldn't have died if they hadn't contracted Covid-19.

This is part of the reason why the "excess deaths" by all causes in 2020 and early 2021 are far higher than the totals found in a similar period one year prior, and they are above the pandemic numbers by some 50,000 (part of it is also caused by neglect of other conditions, which could be called "collateral damage.")

I predict that, #1, direct Covid-19 deaths + #2, mid-term Covid-19 complications deaths + #3, collateral damage deaths will total some 700,000 Americans when it's all said and done. Regardless of whether the deaths occurred as #1, #2, or #3, this will become the biggest public health crisis this country has ever seen, including the 1918-19 pandemic, which will be bumped to second place.

Trying to minimize the impact of Covid-19 in terms of American death toll, is frankly, silly. The virus has a way to defeat all of this. Remember when people were mocking Covid-19 saying "it has killed only 2,000 Americans while the flu kills 30,000." At the time, I said, just wait and see. Now with 400,000, that argument was short-lived... as any argument like this current one you're defending, will be defeated by the virus.

Only the vaccines will be able to put an end to this, and maybe not even the first generation of vaccines (we may need a second generation, tweaking the mRNA to the spike protein mutations in new variants). Just trying to deny it for political reasons won't cut it. Mark my words.

no one ever said that, they said they would trust the experts, not Trump

I think even most republicans would not trust Trump with their health, heck even Trump did not use the drug he was pushing on the people when he got covid

No, the WHO is talking about a specific technique of PCR to deal with weak positives in a situation of low prevalence of disease. This doesn't apply to the vast majority of RT-PCR tests that have been performed. There AREN'T huge numbers of false positives out there. What you saw in this thread's OP is a misunderstanding at best, or malicious distortion at worst, of what the WHO said. You can trust me on this - haven't I given you enough proof that I know what I'm talking about? If you get tested by RT-PCR and it is positive, the odds that you are indeed positive are 98 to 99%.

This very moment when we're dealing with a surge, the hospitals are close to capacity, we beat all death toll records, and two new and more infectious strains are coming up, the less scary B.1.1.7 a.k.a. the British variant (less scary because it does get contained nicely by the Pfizer vaccine although it is 56% more contagious) and the more scary B.1.351 (a.k.a. 501Y-V.2 or the South African variant - more scary because not only it is also 50% more contagious, but there are more signs that it may evade or dampen the efficacy of the vaccine), one of them already widely present here (the Brit one), and the other one coming up as a matter of when, not if, any attempt to minimize this pandemic is frankly laughable.

So these people keep moving the goalposts... and now they say PCR is giving false positives... no, it isn't. They just don't have the required knowledge to correctly interpret the WHO memo. The pandemic will continue to defy and debunk the deniers. Unfortunately, it's far from over and it will get worse before it gets better.

We'll start to see a lull... our numbers will drop temporarily... but then will go up again due to B.1.1.7 and even worse, 501Y-V.2. Then they will decline again due to more vaccine distribution. If the South African strain doesn't escape the vaccine, we'll be fine and the pandemic will be over. If it does, then we'll need to tweak the mRNA vaccines and re-vaccinate people.

Any gloating about the end of this is premature.

People of the ideological persuasion of the OP said that the pandemic would disappear on November 4th, thinking that it was an exaggeration with political goals in mind. Well, it's much worse now than on November 2nd... So, the virus debunked the theory. It will debunk this one, too. Mark my words.

I certainly do trust your authority. I had just read the article and had came to my layman's conclusions. Admittedly, medical studies/journals are the hardest thing in the world to read. I've read law articles, business articles and various other things but never had I been as clueless as when it comes to reading the medical. What I had posted and interpreted was sincerely what I thought: That apparently there was a miscounting of positives.

I should ask you this on the state of the vaccines thread but what do you make of all of the rumors/speculations out there that these rolled out vaccines might very well be having serious side effects?

If you want to argue over the definition of 'huge' then have at it. I honestly don't care and if you do then that is on you. Nitpick away. Small things, small minds.

The issue here is people implying that the death figures are exaggerated. The excess death figures make clear how false that is. There is a clear leap in deaths at the end of March which corresponds exactly with the rise in reported COVID deaths. No amount of manipulating statistics, word games, conspiracy theories & straight out lies will change that.

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm

As for your 'studies', I don't care. I lived through a successful lockdown. We went from a handful of cases per day to 700 per day. We locked down, and by the end there were 0 cases per day. Other than people from overseas in quarantine we have barely had more than a few dozen cases since the start of November and life is almost the same as before COVID. We lost almost 800 people in 3 months. There has barely been a COVID death in 3 months. Personally I prize the lives of my loved ones & the most vulnerable in my community more than my personal convenience. Fortunately that attitude exists in my society from the top to the bottom. I would try to explain it, but we both know I'd be wasting my time.

I'm not saying its easy, but don't tell me it can't be done. It can. I have lived it.

Are you retired? The cost that Australia has paid for this has been catastrophic. They have changed the economy at its very core. The permanent impoverishment of a significant portion of the population via the largest expansion of casual employment in Australian history is hardly something to be celebrating. So you protected the old and infirm while sacrificing the future of your children (THEY WERE NEVER AT RISK FROM COVID), it works out swimmingly for boomer... not so well for everybody else.

Are you saying the WHO is so petty and immature they would misinform the public because their feelings got hurt?

What did you hate the most the peace or the prosperity?

They are having serious side effects about 1 case in 100,000 but of course the media will report on those rather than on the 99,999 who had no serious side effects. Also, the virus itself causes death in about 1 in 50, and serious consequences in about 1 in 10. Just compare. By the way, not a single person so far has died of these "serious" side effects of the vaccine. How many have died of the virus? It's a no-brainer.

The above, especially the linked claim, is GROSSLY dishonest and dangerous to public health.

I feel sorry for you that you didn't understand at all the ramifications of the dangerous misinformation you are claiming above. For -your- information, "positive samples" are NOT actual active, contagious illnesses, and that is why the MAKERS of COVID1984 tests have clearly and repetitively explained from the VERY START that their tests should NOT be used to attempt to diagnose illness in the healthy, or towards mass government or other testing protocols of the healthy which, no surprise, is exactly how they have been abused by political and other creeps, feeble-minded sheep, MSM and scaremongers seeking benefit at the cost of extreme public health damage and panic.

"Positive samples" include inert, inactive viral artifacts, virions, etc. We all carry those particles around with us constantly. They are not illness or disease. They are not contagion. They are just inert particles like the millions of bugs and other stuff that is on us at all times. THAT is why the above is so dishonest... sure, the tests are very accurate... at finding inert JUNK, NOT ILLNESS, and they should NEVER be incorporated into protocols, government or otherwise, of testing HEALTHY PEOPLE.

As has always been clearly stated by the manufacturers and others involved, the tests are very useful for patients already seriously ill, for whom hospitalization is contemplated, in part of diagnosis. MISUSE of these tests to scare the public via testing millions of healthy people, towards political goals, virtue signaling, feels, "all in this together," other mindless failings of a grossly effeminate, irrational culture, towards LW "policy objectives" is CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT, and those advocating or even rationalizing this gross MISUSE are themselves criminally negligent if they do so knowingly.

Finally, scare tactic MSM headlines that "cases" are growing based on faulty tests used on healthy populations is also criminal. A positive test result from artifacts, inert virions on healthy people OR comorbid people not presenting specific covid symptoms is not a "case."

The point is that dying "with covid" will no longer be counted and only dying from covid will. And the numbers will evaporate. All this to win an election. You folks are shameless.

Oh wow. After this completely misguided rant, I have no other resource than walking away from ever reading your posts or replying to them again. Before I go, do know that most people who get tested come to testing centers because of symptoms or because they are contacts of people who tested positive. Do know that the specificity accuracy of RT-PCR tests are still 98 to 99%. And it is cute that you are trying to teach medicine, to a physician with 40 years of practice. Which is why I won't be paying attention to you any longer. Over and out forever.

You posture in the above way lots on the forum. It's a tell that you are in the wrong and have no answer when your hyperbolically partisan threads and posts are questioned or refuted.

Then, you repeat your prior error about "accuracy" of tests that are 90% INACCURATE in diagnosing actual illness or disease, yet are highly accurate in finding inert viral pieces that are NOT illness, NOT disease and NOT contagion. A child could parse the difference, and could also surmise that abuse of such tests towards MSM, or political ends to falsely find illness where it does not exist is gross negligence and criminal in light of the catastrophic public health results of the COVID1984 Moral Panic.

Oh, you are not a practicing M.D., not that it would matter to your negligently erroneous, distorted claims in this thread one way or the other.

Many doctors get paid to write and tell lies by Pharma. The opioid situation is a perfect example, with Purdue shown to have paid doctors to write promotional literature minimizing the potential for addiction of the product, and of course prescribing it for millions.

The bogus vaccine for covid have the same dynamics in play. Some folks are paid to promote it.

Conspiracies, is that all you have?

The actual reason for numbers finally starting to look a tiny bit better:

Christmas and new year's celebrations are over. It is all very predictable, one just has to follow the waves after the major holidays that lead to people having parties: 4th of July, Labor day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year, all of them led to subsequent waves.

I'd be interested to hear about the different rules for "us" than "them". Probably more conspiracy claptrap.

It sure must be the Dem's weaponizing of the virus that created the winter wave in Germany, or the more contagious mutation in England that prevents them from getting infections under control despite a lockdown. Wow, those nefarious Dems have a lot bigger reach than anyone could have thought.
