Well, we are in a new age. This it the beginning of a time when entities are looking out for number one....theirself. Thanks Democrats.

It is an age where it is OK to go after anyone who disagrees with you. It is OK to do whatever you want despite what is actually the right thing to do. It is an age when folks will try to gain every advantage they can by hook or by crook.....thanks democrats.

So if you try to unionize for a better life and your company fires you, tough luck. If that same company fires you, thumbs their nose at you and say "what are you going to do about it?"....well, just suck it up buttercup. This is the new age we live in.....thanks democrats.

So now you’re pro-unions? That’s funny, because Trump isn’t. In fact, republicans haven’t been friendly to unions in a long time. This stinks of projection.

    So now you are anti-union?

I am for folks having freedom. If they want to unionize then so be it. The mistake you are making is believing everyone who supports Trump think the same way. Not so unlike democrats.

Nope, I absolutely supports laborers and their right to unionize. I take issue with years of union busting from the right only for you to be here blaming Dems for the results of those actions.

I could be wrong but I believe that is illegal. I was in management during a union organization effort. I was told in no uncertain terms not even to talk about it with the warehouse employees. Perhaps things have changed.

    Huh? :roflol:

You posted an article about Instacart, just so you could spend 3 paragraphs bashing Big Bad "democrats"?

Well, as to the OP, which is referencing the Instacart/Union Situation (and has NOTHING to do with Democrats):

Attempts by Gig Workers to Unionize is a complex issue, and it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

In general terms, Trump's Supporters Online (and Elsewhere) moving onto topics like "Dems Bad/Biden Bad" shows an acceptance of Political Reality.

It definitely is an improvement (and represents an acceptance of reality) over 10 threads a day about "The Kraken", Or how The SCOTUS, Pence, Etc. were going to overturn the Election.

How did democrats create this again? It seems to me this is caused by the GOP weakening labor laws.

    Plus that’s pretty illegal.

If the company pays decent wages and had good working conditions, why would they need a union?

    Okie.

Labor leaders have worked for months to sell their members on Biden, hoping to avoid a repeat of 2016 when Donald Trump outperformed among union members and won the White House. But despite a bevy of national union endorsements for Biden and years of what leaders call attacks on organized labor from the Trump administration, local officials in critical battleground states said support for Trump remains solid.

    Good riddance!

The Instascam I've seen rolled out at my local grocers here has been total rubbish. At the time I looked at them, they didn't honor nearly any coupons that weren't part of their digital partnership distribution, they didn't recognize most in store BOGOs, per item pricing included unexplained markup on many items, you pay a service fee, you pay a delivery fee, if Instascam feels they are in a period of 'high demand' you'll pay a fee for that, and then of course you're expected to tip and their shoppers/drivers are paid so poorly by the company that YouTube and Insta's subreddit are FILLED with incidents of drivers confronting customers over tips.

I'd like to see them go down in flames simply because I want my local Publix chains to launch their own curbside and finally get up to speed with Target, Sam's Club, and Walmart, all of which do it in-house and with no charge. Pretty sure Publix got locked into an exclusive contract with Instascam pre-COVID so I'd love to see that go away.

He has support with the rank and file, despite him being as anti union as most republicans.

Dude - the National Labor Relation Board (NLRB) rolled back rules protecting worker's right to Unionize in 2018 -2019. The
NLRB is appointed by the President. Gosh, guess who was President in 2018-19? Was it a Democrat? Thinking .... thinking ...

The employees are "at will" I believe is the term.

Here is what else I found

If they are subcontractors, not sure why a union. The contract dictates the terms and calendar, I would think.

I don't know for sure myself either, but in a right to work state, I don't think it is. As long as you are not discriminated against you can be fired for anything.

    From Instacart
"As a result of some grocers transitioning to a Partner Pick model, we’ll be winding down our in-store operations at select retailer locations over the coming months. We know this is an incredibly challenging time for many as we move through the COVID-19 crisis, and we’re doing everything we can to support in-store shoppers through this transition. This includes transferring impacted shoppers to other retailer locations where we have Instacart in-store shopper roles open, working closely with our retail partners to hire impacted shoppers for roles they’re looking to fill, and providing shoppers with transition assistance as they explore new work opportunities. We’re also providing all impacted shoppers with separation packages based on their tenure with Instacart."

And if the union makes it too expensive to hire workers.............................

The two unions I was ever in I HAD to join and they were both in right to work states. One in a scheme between the union and company that the company would only hire "apprentices" through the union and the union would not work for the employees but the employer and the second if I didn't want my tires slashed or a pipe dropped on my head from 3 decks up as I was advised when I was signing my employment papers.

Even in a right to work state it is illegal to fire someone for trying to unionize. That said, it is not illegal to fire someone without cause. IE: An employer can fire you for no reason at all. Or they can fire you because they didn't like your tie, dress, shoes whatever. So proving that you were fired because you tried to unionize is not an easy thing to do.

republicans are the ones against Unions, not democrats

Republican create laws like the "right to work" law that really means the 'right to fire' - always be careful as republican often name things the opposite of what they are
