Colossal Error of Judgement? Why? because you disagree with Trump's policies? Those are big words, care to back them up? Oh and you need to try harder than "RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA"

Not only that, because they have failed and thus the nation is weaker because of them.

You will need more than Empty words. PROVE his policies were failure. I just think you are too blinded by hate for Trump to even view this from a political point of view

Seeing as I have a smorgasbord to choose from I guess I'll pluck the low hanging fruit. There is no developed nation in the world with a worse response to COVID than ours. Directly due to policies Trump enacted and did not enact.

But if you'd rather we can talk about immigration. The illegal seizure of funds to pay for the ineffectual wall, the failure of progress in advancing immigration reform, the family separation disaster, the economically harmful use of tariffs, the illegal denial of asylum to qualified seekers of such.

If you were honest, you would admit there was a whole range of possible responses to COVID that the American people would never have gone along with.

Actually, the truth is evident and opposite.

I haven't heard the word "mask" in a few days. Everywhere you look, everybody is wearing a mask. Republicans, cab drivers, greeters and Republicans. Did I mention Republicans?

Trump politicized public health. If you were honest, you'd admit that not only would Republicans have gladly wore a mask at Trump's direction, they would have bought them from his daughter.

If you were honest you'd admit those of which you speak, mostly Trump's cult following, would have done what he told them to do. BTW, don't lump the "American people" in with the reckless idiots who rejected common sense health measures recommended by the CDC designed to protect themselves and those around them and in so doing caused a much bigger health crisis than was necessary.

We didn't have nuclear weapons for most of our history either.

why would they do that? I only wear a mask in Walmart and doctors offices. And only then because I don't want to be hassled over the issue.

And I've never purchased a mask. I've been wearing the same N95 for six months now.

Nuclear weapons were never the main purpose of the Energy Dept. They simply stuck in in there to justify the dept. more in 1977.

Your lack of regard for the health of those around you (and personal hygiene) is noted.

What matters is now. We don't look to the past to determine current needs. We look around us.

I respectfully request you read up on the dept.'s mandate. It goes far beyond the nuclear arsenal, though the arsenal is a major responsibility.

Given the U.S. has but a fraction of the nuclear weapons it had in 1977 and hasn't built any new ones in literally decades, wouldn't you agree that the justification for the Dept. of Energy is thus considerably LESS than in 1977?

Nuclear weapons are at most a minor portion of the Department of Energy.

Your very article says otherwise, so pardon me for being mislead by the source you've quoted yourself. It even says that the DoE is the "Nuclear Weapons Department."

Oh no, I don't call Perry dumb because I disagree with him politically. I call him dumb because he is dumb.

No, not minor. Did you read the article quoted by our fellow poster here? It calls the DoE's core mission, ensuring the safety of the country's nuclear arsenal. How do you get from "core mission" to minor???

How many nuclear accidents does it take to create a catastrophe?

Nope. I cannot reliably make such a determination based on your post.

What I agree with is the original claim that Rick Perry was supremely unqualified to run the department.
