    Why do you see that as a problem? Was the training actually related to Maxism, and if so, can you explain how?

    If this really happened it is something promoted by the fringe of the fringe.
    I view this ( again if it actually happened) with about as much support as I give QANON.

    We need to check and see if there is a legitimate source for this story.

    Workshops are quite common in Education, and the incident seems plausible. The problem is that we only have second and third hand information, and that is being presented to us in a very slanted way.

    I wouldn't say it didn't happen, but we clearly don't have all the facts. Why was no outline for the workshop presented? Why are we only getting one person's opinion of the workshop? Was it a required workshop or one offered for credits? Was the incident in the local news or was it someone's online rant about having to waste time in a workshop?

    Most of us have first hand experience with stories about incidents being re-told in ways that re-focus and exaggerate what actually happened.

    I don't have her book. Have you been to one of her workshops? I'd like to see the outline for the workshop.

    The other question was whether or not it was a required workshop. This make a big difference in whether teachers are being forced to do this or if it is offered for those interested. In my experience, these kinds of workshops are not required and the logistics of putting all teachers through it would be more than most school districts would want to take on.

    What I'm seeing in the comments here is the idea that this is being forced on educators when it seems to be offered as a choice to a relatively small group. I'm also seeing some seeming misinterpretations or misunderstandings of what the purpose of that matrix is, as well as her overall objectives.

    It is a problem because "diversity" is actually a problem for society as it is unnatural human behavior. People prefer to interface with people more like themselves. So the idea should be to teach how to operate effectively despite the diversity. Oppression or the lack thereof isn't the way to do it. People need to learn how to interface with people that are not like them. Trying to get them to want more diversity is backward.

    That's not related to "maxism." :) (typos are so embarrassing--I guess I was using my Boston accent)

    As far as cultural Marxism and as the quote points out, it's largely a label created by some conservatives, and it does seem to trigger certain deep-seated biases. It's basically the belief that all people and all beliefs are equal and should be treated equally, and people should not have a narrow set of traditional White cultural norms forced on them. Whether we like it or not, we do live in a multicultural society, and if we are to follow our Constitution, we have to allow that not all share the same social rules as far as gender, religion. ethnicity, and so forth. (And that opens the door for some legitimate criticism of the concept of cultural Marxism but I'll hold that back for now.)

    Also, I really don't think BLM is part of the discussion on the workshop. We shouldn't drag that in to the question of cultural Marxism in the workshop simply because the connection would be assumptions.

    The other part of my question was how the training was related to Marxism. Since we have no outline of the workshop, the best we can do is to jump to conclusions (and assumptions). If the teacher complaining about the workshop provided anything other than some comments, I'd like to see them. Since the topic seems related to what's being called "systemic racism," it is really necessary to know exactly what the content of the workshop was before we apply too many presumptions.
