Will trans 'rights' be the end of women's sports?
I am not informed enough to answer this, nor am I American to really understand what is going on.
But I suspect this isn't going to work out well for many women.

Joe Biden’s First Day Began the End of Girls’ Sports - WSJ

“Finished. Done,” Olympic track-and-field coach Linda Blade told me. “The leadership skills, all the benefits society gets from letting girls have their protected category so that competition can be fair, all the advances of women’s rights—that’s going to be diminished.” Ms. Blade noted that parents of teen girls are generally uninterested in watching their daughters demoralized by the blatant unfairness of a rigged competition.

I say rigged because in contests of strength and speed, the athletic chasm between the sexes, which opens at puberty, is both permanent and unbridgeable. Once male puberty is complete, testosterone suppression doesn’t undo the biological advantages men possess: larger hearts, lungs and bones, greater bone density, more-oxygenated blood, more fast-twitch muscle fiber and vastly greater muscle mass.

Whether it "ruins" women's sports depends on what you take the value of women's sports to be.

If it reduces participation in sports from people born female, that would be a bad thing. I doubt it would do that, though. Most people who participate don't have a shot at being champion anyway, usually because they weren't born with the right body and talent.

Women's sports are already not much watched, so I don't see a lot of fans being disappointed.

It is an absurd and divisive subject. Women should simply refuse to participate in this circus of identity politics. Already, the propaganda is pervasive, perverse and pejorative to women and society. With all the real problems we face, devoting so much attention to such a ridiculous subject obviously only serves the very narrow interests of a select few who have found an avenue to influence and power.

Trans people should have their own competitions. As the OP says, women face unfair competition. Why should 50% of the population be disadvantaged by the small number with a medical problem?

I think so. Perhaps it would help to have all the girls in the nation boycott sports. A big ask for sure but it could turn the tide. Stupid order. Beyond stupid.

This thing seems ironic to me. I mean, who has from the beginning insisted we humor the trans nonsense? Women of course. I haven't spoken to a single man who wanted to jump on this bandwagon. Now it's come back to bite us in the a$$. And who wouldn't have predicted that...

Renee Richards career would suggest otherwise. Anecdotally speaking of course. If this really becomes a thing, then perhaps we should "gird our loins" for transgender leagues and competitions or maybe just exclude them based on other's notions of what they are.

It starts in the womb when a male fetus
has a surge of testosterone directing the
male genitalia to form among other developments.

Sex assigned at birth should be "it"
    as far as athletics goes.

What "other's notions" are might be better informed than the so-called trans.
And not just informed of trans issues, but trans tactics and trans ideology.

So, it's acceptable to create a situation where gifted, dedicated athletes that have been able to get a "free ride" through college scholarships, should now have no real chance in the future?
Just one point to ponder - during the dust-up over female soccer players demanding more equity with their male counterparts after the last World Cup - I saw a piece explaining that when these pro-level female athletes used male competition for practice, they couldn't play with guys over the age of 14-15 because they began to consistently LOSE those matches. There is a very real difference between the sexes in muscle mass, strength, and speed. Anyone who denies this is only deluding themselves.
I think there should be separate teams for trans-athletes. These athletes are an extremely small fraction of total players and should not be able to take scholarships from women who've worked diligently for that chance for years.

    Here is a "for instance"...

    Ladies
LPGA 2020 Golf Money Leaders #1. Sei Young Kim $1,133,000

PGA 2020 Golf Money Leaders #188. Vincent Whaley $207,571

    http://www.espn.com/golf/moneylist/_/page/4/year/2020
    (cycle between PGA and LPGA)

So let's go ahead and let men play in the LPGA because they desire to be women. Ol' Vincent will quickly become a multi-millionaire because he would lay waste to the entire women's field in every tournament he entered. Sei Young Kim would get crushed.

And as Vincent started raking in the dough, the rest of the lower ranked and low earning XYs would quickly feel like women so they could cash in on the easy pickings too. The viewership and hence the sponsorships of the LPGA would wain quickly, and there wouldn't be much money in the prize funds - because not many people want to see XYs whuppin' the hell out of XXs. Then it would all be ruined for the XXs - not enough money in it to be a full time pro, because all the lower ranked XYs would be dominating the XX field.

Oh well, if that's the way the progressives want it, then so be it. Of course, then the progressives would have to come up with some way to determine who are the "real" transgenders versus "fake" transgenders and only the "real" transgenders would be allowed to play against the XXs. Brave new world, baby!

No. This is not the end of female sports for lots of different reasons. For the exact same reason as cis-women who have high levels of testosterone can compete, so too can trans people. Assuming of course that's how we even want to think about this. Trans athletes can win and lose, just like anyone.

I suppose 'cis women' is a newly minted word. As they say, 'social engineering begins with language engineering.'
It's not going to turn out good.

Is there any particular reason why women and men can't just use weight classes and not differentiate by sex at all? Most facilities have 2 locker rooms/showers anyway

I think a lot of this stuff is just political - using some vanishingly small minority 'issue' to foment
trouble, to promote their PC purity, to demonize and to ridicule traditional values. Underlying it
    all seems to be hate.

Sports have always been and will always be political in nature. Think about who is allowed to compete. All it’s doing is the tradition of allowing women to compete in sports.

Or we can look at this another way. Trans men exist- will that end “men’s sports”?
