Next; $9 billion for “international security assistance”

I think it's funding for ISAF......

International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to assist the Afghan Interim Authority in the maintenance of security in Kabul and surrounding areas.[1] It was the final Security Council resolution adopted in 2001

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_Resolution_1386

    Thus, whose pork?

    I'm not finished!

In this forum, many have complained about the pork, thus, we'll review all of them.

Next; $5.9 billion for the “President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)”

    WFT is this?

The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in history, enabled by strong bipartisan support across nine U.S. congresses and three presidential administrations, and through the American people’s generosity. PEPFAR shows the power of what is possible through compassionate, cost-effective, accountable, and transparent American foreign assistance.

Question; a pork spending supported by Trump?

    Answer; Absolutely!

    Let's check Trump's budget

    There you go......

    • The majority of PEPFAR funding is channeled by Congress to the State Department ($5.93 billion, which includes $4.37 billion for bilateral HIV, most of which is then transferred to other agencies, and a $1.56 billion contribution to the Global Fund), followed by NIH ($511 million), USAID ($330 million), CDC ($128.4 million), and a small amount to DoD ($8 million).
    • As in the past three years, the current Administration has proposed significantly reduced PEPFAR funding in FY 2021 ($4.42 billion) (see KFF fact sheets on the S. Global Health Budget: HIV/PEPFAR and the U.S. Global Health Budget: The Global Fund). Congress has thus far rejected proposed spending cuts.
https://www.kff.org/global-health-policy/fact-sheet/the-u-s-presidents-emergency-plan-for-aids-relief-pepfar/#:~:text=As in the past three,Budget: The Global Fund).

Thus, whose pork? Dem, Repub, and Trump

LIKE I SAID, we'll review all the pork, thus, I'm not finished!

And in the end, we'll have a better understanding of what the WHINERS have been complaining about.

A strict lockdown means reducing the daily virus count to near zero, and keeping it there.
    ...as opposed to this:

"Government response to the pandemic in New York began with a full lockdown from March 2020 to April 2020, followed by a four-phase reopening plan by region from April 2020 to July 2020. Additional modifications to the plan have been imposed since July as the state has learned more about the pandemic and due to political pressure".

The reopening plan never really happened in New York and CA and the death toll never hit zero anywhere nor will it. Human beings are mortal. We die of an amazing number if things terminal stupidity it being uncommon. 2.8 million people die on the US. Covid hasn't caught up with cancer and heart disease yet though preliminary data suggests that, at the very least, some covid deaths were people who would otherwise have died of cancer or heart disease.

Contradicted by ""Government response to the pandemic in New York began with a full lockdown from March 2020 to April 2020, followed by a four-phase reopening plan by region from April 2020 to July 2020."

After an initial loss of life in March, several countries achieved near zero further loss of life by maintaining tight management of the virus. (frequent testing, harsh lockdowns when necessary etc)

In Australia, after an initial death toll c.200 in March/April, strict controls maintained that death toll until a virus escaped (in November) from failed hotel quarantine in Melbourne, resulting in a spike of c .700 further deaths. Conservatives called the premier of the state, Daniel Matthews, "Nazi Dan", who imposed the necessary total lockdown of the city to bring the situation back under control.

Currently there are only c.1000 total covid deaths in Australia ie the 200 initial deaths (mostly in nursing homes) and then the 700 from Melbourne outbreak, That's over the entire pandemic period.

    Correct.

I know we are very lenient with grammar rules on PF, but you have strayed into gibberish there....

Excess death figures will help clarify covid death numbers in the coming months.

Notice when a world view is contradicted by reasoned argument, irrationality is a common response,

eg, AOC has attracted this sort of irrational response from the Right...including (apparently) deaths threats. I hope they throw the book at him....(and attempt to educate his tiny brain in prison....).

There is no FISCAL impediment to government spending as much money as necessary to keep the population safe in a pandemic. The current neoliberal orthodoxy established by Friedman 4 decades ago is obsolete.....and wrong.
