If Canada has any sense, it should abandon any hope of getting its oil to the Gulf of Mexico. Time to make their own pipeline and build whatever is necessary to host tankers to ship it. I wouldn't trust the US government for ten minutes.

    from the article

After the U.S. president’s decision on his first day in office, Kenney said that Alberta would consider legal action and urged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to impose trade sanctions if the Biden administration didn’t negotiate

Isn't it funny how "woke" Canada all of a sudden gets a dose of reality when they see that jobs get lost with liberal politics

Well, the oil is still getting moved, but by train now. Warren Buffett had to get his piece of the pie.

The funny thing is that pipelines are the most environmentally safe way of transporting oil. It's safer than trains or trucks, but environmentalists have to virtue signal for their cause (while Buffett and his cronies get their profits).

Good Plan .. if not from Canada -Pipeline - we have to get it from places like "Nigeria" - Tanker.

How is that the environmentally friendly option - by any stretch of the imagination ?

I think its funnier that a right wing American lumps an anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, pro-fossil fuel Canadian politician with 'woke' people. As I often say, research is difficult, saying stuff on the internet is easy. Why spend 30 seconds to do the research when you can just repeat some rote learned generalization and hit 'post'?

The pipeline runs from Alberta Canada to Houston and Beaumont/Port Arthur. So it does get its oil to the Gulf of Mexico with said pipeline, its already built and operational in that aspect.

Indeed there are no emissions from pipelines. They are also the safest way to transport oil and gas. This is a political issue not a common sense issue.

The pipeline already runs from Alberta Canada to Houston and Beaumont/Port Arthur, its built and operational since 2017. Blame the media and disinformation in a way, or the talking points that are moot like "cancel the pipeline" that made sense in 2010. The pipeline won and it was built, we are discussing a "leg" off the main pipeline at this point. The pipeline won a long time ago and we already built the "Keystone pipeline" that runs from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, its done and operational for years now.

    What sort of "payback"??

Jason Kenneys "sanction the US" kinda payback? Good luck....Canada would get crushed in 12 hrs or less.

Kenney should've thought twice about sinking a $$$billion plus into a pipedream that Biden basically mentioned back in Feb2020 that he would kill.

Kenney was gambling Trump would get re elected....well it didnt pan out that way.

Oil and natural gas has been a money losing disaster for the past ten years, even giant oil companies like Exxon-Mobil are losing money. We do not need the keystone xl pipeline extension.

The left does not want good jobs and a strong middle class. They prefer people be dependent on government.

the keystone pipeline kills American jobs, the pipeline is built to replace jobs, not create them

the pipeline reduces labor costs, it does this by eliminating jobs

If O Canada! wants to export worthless tar sands, they can build their own pipelines and expand or build new ports to ship it.

It's not my job to make sure O Canadians have a job.

    Some background info:

What is the Keystone XL Pipeline?

" What is the Pipeline exactly?

The Keystone Pipeline already exists. What doesn’t exist fully yet is its proposed expansion, the Keystone XL Pipeline. The existing Keystone runs from oil sand fields in Alberta, Canada into the U.S., ending in Cushing, Oklahoma.

The 1,700 new miles of pipeline would offer two sections of expansion. First, a southern leg would connect Cushing, Oklahoma, where there is a current bottleneck of oil, with the Gulf Coast of Texas, where oil refineries abound. That leg went into operation in January 2014. Second, the pipeline would include a new section from Alberta to Kansas. It would pass through Bakken Shale region of eastern Montana and western North Dakota. Here, it will pass through a region where oil extraction is currently booming and take on some of this crude for transport.

The southern leg of the Keystone XL ties into the existing Keystone pipeline that already runs to Canada, bringing up to 700,000 barrels of oil a day to refineries in Texas. At peak capacity, the pipeline will deliver 830,000 barrels of oil per day. While the pipeline is initially carried U.S. light crude, it is expected to carry more heavy Canadian oil harvested from tar sands over the next year. "

Keystone pipeline’s southern leg to begin transporting oil to U.S. Gulf Coast

    January 21, 2014

" TransCanada will start shipping crude oil through the southern leg of the Keystone pipeline Wednesday, easing the bottleneck at the sprawling storage-tank farms in Cushing, Okla., and feeding refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. "

    Amen.

And, Canada has been opposed to their own pipline projects that would have the same function as the XL pipeline.

    They do understand the problem.

As for jobs, there are way more jobs in clean energy. And, that includes in construction projects that don't end simply because a pipe got completed.

Yeah but Biden KILLED IT on his FIRST DAY so it's useless.

Hundreds of pipelines across America and Biden only killed 1. WTF?

Workers are now out of work in America and struggling.

How do you like that gas tax increase?

Even Exxon Mobil cannot make money in todays oil market and hasn't been doing well financially for ten years. Most oil drillers carry far too much debt.

A gas tax would hurt poor people who drive older vehicles.
