Ok, so maybe the "open border" wont be as open as the GOP has advertised (on Biden's behalf).

"Now is not the time to come and the vast majority of people will be turned away," White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at a daily briefing.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Now is not the time for new migrants to come to the U.S. border and most will be turned away, the White House said on Wednesday, citing the coronavirus pandemic and the Biden administration's short time in office to set up processes for new migrants.

That's gonna be some disappointing news to the thousands of people marching towards the border under the impression that Joe was gonna let them in. Perhaps Joe should have said this during the campaign.

Seems like Biden knows there is going to be a lot of unemployment problems (in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic shutdown), and more "undocumented" immigration is not going to help the country's economy during his Presidency.

related thread: Democrats, how do you expect Biden to raise minimum wage while bringing in more immigrants?

He never said he would let everyone in. It was the Republicans who parroted that Biden would "open the border". Why? Who knows, but I guess it was to scare Republicans into the voting booths. Misrepresenting political opponents stance is business as usual on both sides.

It's been awhile since the pre-election campaign days. I'll have to double check to see what Joe said. You might be right. But then I wonder where the immigrants coming towards the border got the idea that the doors were open to them.

I told you: Donald Trump and the Republican party went on about how Biden would open the borders. Maybe that's where they got the idea. It was a lie, but maybe that's where they got the idea.

In the other hand, why do you think they are under the impression that the border is open? After all, they have been coming for decades. In the past 4 years we heard Trump repeatedly proclaim that illegal immigration under his presidency was worse than ever before. Why? Did someone tell them the border was open?

If Trump was telling the truth, and the situation was worse than ever before it means illegal immigration quadrupled under Trump, because the worst was in the 1980s when up to 1.6 million came in illegally, while it was down to about 300K when he took office. We'll see what the number is in 2021 so we can compare Biden's numbers to Trumps "worse than ever before" numbers.

Practically speaking, this is simply hot air. Most migrants won't be turned away from the border for the same reason that President Obama couldn't do it. Once your in, your in. There will be no deportations and since the Biden administration has dismantled the Mexico detention policy, the only place for the illegals to go is to the US. If they are detained, it will be like the Obama era where people are processed and released with a court date in the distant future (which they'll not bother to go to).

However the Biden administration seems to be realizing, belatedly, that dismantling all of those Trump policies means that all the disincentives that Trump used to cross the border are gone, so it's open season, which means they are probably going to facing a humiliating border rush in the future. More Covid cases, here we come!

It's another little "gift" Trump left for Biden.

It all started when Trump split children with the parents. Many children would be lost with out their family

A lot of human traffickers brought children to the border because of how "families" were once prioritized for asylum claims. Also, the children can net a lot of money in the trafficking market.

Just because someone claims to be a parent doesn't automatically make them one.

And his pause on deportations has been put on the crapper by a federal judge for at least another 2 weeks https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/09/biden-deportation-moratorium-texas-judge/

The Federal Reserve chief Powell just said that our current unemployment real rate is at least 10 percent.

And what is his stance on those that come in illegally that aren't turned away because they snuck in?

Biden prepares rules to limit ICE arrests, deportations | PoliticalForum.com - Forum for US and Intl Politics

Oh and don't forget that the Biden Admin is currently under an injunction that prevents him from releasing illegals that were scheduled for deportation. Which he tried to do.

So it seems. I knew Trump lied when it said the situation during his presidency was worse than ever before (it was worse under Reagan), but he did manage to double illegal immigration.

I'm guessing mind you, but I'm pretty sure he will go back to what Obama was doing and go after the criminals and leave the grandmas alone. Priorities...

    Exactly!

The court injunction happened because Texas AG Paxton filed a lawsuit. But it is only temporarily and is due to expire Feb 23 unless it is extended again.

His stance is actually WORSE than Obama's. At least Obama deported the thieves, fraudsters, and those that committed assault. Biden doesn't even want to deport those. Yeah, he has priorities alright. And they're not in the best interest of the USA.

If it is anything like Obama's policy, then he will end up deporting more people than Trump.

Where did you hear that he would not deport criminals? Criminals will do time in US prisons and then are deported. If he reverted some EO by Trump, then logically that means it will revert back to Obama guidelines, which means more deportations than Trump era.

Your not factoring in the legal challenges on everything Trump did by the ACLU, who desperately want to import poverty because they don't believe that we already have enough of our own.

But if the grandma's entered and remained in the US illegally, they are criminals as well.
The law has to be applied equally.

In business we call this setting priorities.
You know you aren't going to get rid of all 11 million so you work on the most important ones - criminals.
But Trump didn't do that. He did the opposite. He did easy - grandmas.
But even that didn't work because usually those people required a trial. A system that is backlogged.
As such he defeated his own purpose.
