Reparations, I believe, are talked about for political reasons, trying to cater for the purpose of getting votes. If Congress was serious about reparations - in '93 and '94 the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the White House, and not one single Republican vote was needed for reparations. J. C. So that's a "no" to continuing the discussion? No interest in discussing who will be required to pay the money, no further points of who will get the money (a matter of some interest since my grandchildren are 50/50 mixed), no revelations on how you plan to go further with this proposal?

Just a continuance of googled quotes regarding stupidity?

    Sad really.

And actually the quote wasn't Forrest Gump's. Forrest was repeating what his mother had told him.

Mamma always told me that "Stupid is as stupid does".

It wasn't meant to be an insult, but a way of bolstering her son's confidence in himself in spite of his limited abilities. It was a way of pointing out that "smart people" can be pretty stupid if in spite of their intelligence they do stupid things...and that "stupid people" can do smart things if they use some sense regarding a matter.

Now...discussions on reparations? Or is this discussion effectively finished due to your lack of interest in anything other than Web Searched quotations?

Even though reparations are now part of the Democratic Platform, there are still too many Democrats who oppose them to pass under the near future. Plus the fact that, more so than any other issue I can think of, the devil is in the details. Determining a fair amount and a fair way to determine eligibility just can't get through the political process.

But...they are really useful as a political issue. If the Democrats promise reparations for the next 50 years, even if they never deliver, it will still be a successful vote buying strategy.

Strewth! One of the commonly used tactics for generating votes is to look at your constituents and say "Look! I'm trying my damnedest, but those dirty [people in the other party] keep blocking me. I'll keep trying until I succeed!". As you say...even if they don't deliver people look at them and think "They've haven't forgotten their promise. Damn shame it keeps getting blocked by them other fellers."

It's a win either way. They get to say "Look at me! I did it! I kept my promise!" or "I keep trying and I will continue to keep at it!"

I would ask if you're ever going to go back onto the topic or just keep throwing quotes that do not pertain to the topic at hand but...

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. - falsely attributed to Albert Einstein.

    I'm done playing.

Should Moriah ever decide to get back into the discussion and not just Google up some more digs at me...here's a question.

Not even going into the "why should I pay for this since my family didn't own slaves" bit that is a common argument...

What about the fact that this money would come out of Government coffers. This means that taxes collected thus far would have to be reallocated to fund the reparations and likely tax hikes to cover it.

Sure...they're getting reparations. But they themselves are being taxed for it. Monies that would be going for other services (education, infrastructure, healthcare, etc) will now be reallocated to cover such. Sure that might not seem like much of a big deal...but one major illness could wipe out that reparation in one fell swoop. "Yay! We got money...but little 7 year old Timmy was in a car crash, lost his legs and will need expensive new prosthetics every couple of years because he's growing and now we're right back where we started from...broke as heck."

And what about the damage such loss in other services to minorities who often have it just as rough but don't have slavery in their past? Cutting those services and raising taxes might totally screw others.

How would we get around that?

This whole thing is just posturing in order to gain a free podium for attention.

Instead of reparations why not offer to pay for a one-way ticket back to where their ancestors came from, and see how they enjoy life there?

    Edit: by air not sea....

History has nothing to do with U.S. Constitution.
There is process to implement Constitutional Changes.
Sure, if 3/4 of states agree that Equal Protection clause is invalid and DNA of Black people is superior to any other DNA then yes.
Until then you are essentially advocating lawlessness (aka, domestic terrorism).

I do not care about your system.
All I care is a law and Constitution.
If you are for implementing lawlessness in this land, I only have to choices, fight back or flee the country.
