Long ago and far away . . .
Serious people in serious institutions feared the onset of a new Ice Age. In our time, of course, much effort has been spent to air brush those fears out of the record. But the truth always seems to find a way to the surface.

    The Symptoms Of Global Cooling

In 1974, global temperatures were plummeting and snow and ice cover was rapidly increasing.

In the 1990 IPCC Report, a large increase in Arctic sea ice was observed from 1974 to the peak in 1979.

Was there ever any scientific consensus that there would be a new ice age?

By 1961, there was a unanimous consensus of scientists that earth was cooling.

Massive Cover-up Exposed: 285 Papers From 1960s-’80s Reveal Robust Global Cooling Scientific ‘Consensus’

Beginning in 2003, software engineer William Connolley quietly removed the highly inconvenient references to the global cooling scare of the 1970s from Wikipedia, the world’s most influential and accessed informational source.

It had to be done. Too many skeptics were (correctly) pointing out that the scientific “consensus” during the 1960s and 1970s was that the Earth had been cooling for decades, and that nascent theorizing regarding the potential for a CO2-induced global warming were still questionable and uncertain.

Not only did Connolley — a co-founder (along with Michael Mann and Gavin Schmidt) of the realclimate.com blog — successfully remove (or rewrite) the history of the 1970s global cooling scare from the Wikipedia record, he also erased (or rewrote) references to the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age so as to help create the impression that the paleoclimate is shaped like Mann’s hockey stick graph, with unprecedented and dangerous 20th/21st century warmth.

A 2009 investigative report from UK’s Telegraph detailed the extent of dictatorial-like powers Connolley possessed at Wikipedia, allowing him to remove inconvenient scientific information that didn’t conform to his point of view. . . .

Global Cooling and Wikipedia Fake News
post up at notrickszone.com on the global cooling scare of the 1970's and the efforts to erase it from ... and his team tried to show that the global cooling scare of the 1970's was a myth. They also tried to scrub . . .

". . . Connolley was hardly the only offender, Kim Dabelstein Petersen and many others are also guilty. Rewriting history is not their only offense. They also slander eminent scientists such as Dr. Fred Singer, the first director of the U.S. National Weather Satellite Service; Dr. Richard Lindzen a former MIT Professor of atmospheric physics, and Professor William Happer a professor at Princeton. Many, many others like Willie Soon, Roy Spencer, John Christy and Judith Curry have also been unfairly slandered. . . . "

And for the short time span between 1960 - 65, it WAS dropping. The world was colder. There was
no consensus that this was a long term trend. That's the difference.

I suggest you review the links in #3 and #4. You are a victim of the air brushing I mentioned.

So you're angry at climatologists who were just starting to get data from satellites didn't get it right, and that because a scientist
in 1965 got it wrong that it is impossible for a scientist in 2020 to have more information to make better diagnostics.

    Ok. Whatever.

The point, of course, is fallibility, and the fully corrupt attempt to erase that fallibility from the record. I'm not angry at anyone except those who believe their higher purpose justifies burying the truth.

You say burying the truth, but a 10 second google search turned up the stories you posted - so how "buried" is it?

People get all freaked out that there opinion is reflected by the first page of a search engine ... doesn't mean it's "buried". Relax.

Yes, "burying." Had I not initiated this thread you would have remained unaware.

You are actually admitting scientist got it wrong??? Oh my.....don't let that out! It's all climate CHANGE anyway, right? We're covered.

Then how soon after that was it we began to hear about global warming before "climate change"? The seas were rising and coastal cities would disappear before 2000!
Tell you what. There are tons of honest researchers doing the work for us. They don't have motives for tearing this country down. They are bankers and developers who invest in land in these coastal cities. They would not invest if real research showed they were investing in "Atlantis"!

The Cooling started in the 1940's.......

Scientists have been wrong before in many science and medical fields, they are human beings like the rest of us who are fallible, thus mistakes are to be expected.

Your over reliance of one set of people can badly mislead you such as consensus arguments which doesn't support science research, REPRODUCIBLE can however.

The problem with averages is that the average human has one breast and one testicle.

It is funny because we are already in an Ice Age, what they should be saying is Glaciation instead.

Earth has been in an Ice age for the last 2.6 MILLION years.

LOL... Because science is about consensus for you... Once upon a time, the scientific consensus was that the earth was flat. And here you are... LOL

^^^^ Media trying to make a buck. It's really kind of sad that folks who are so well protected under the law never seem to suffer their ridiculous fear mongering. And the whole "prediction" aspect should somehow demonstrate just how non journalistic they actually are.

The good old days, when data were respected.
Activist Scientists Have Now Officially Changed A -0.5°C Global Cooling Trend Into A Warming Trend
By Kenneth Richard on 15. August 2022

Back in the days when data manipulation was still strictly forbidden, scientists reported the globe cooled significantly for decades even as CO₂ concentrations increased.
The global cooling amplitude was -0.5°C from 1960-1965, and 1976 was reported to be the coldest year of any year measured since 1958 (Angell and Korshover, 1978).

Image Source: Angell and Korshover, 1978
The Northern Hemisphere cooling trend reached an amplitude of -0.6°C from 1958 to 1963 according to 150,000 to 200,000 measurements per month for 92% of the atmosphere (Starr and Oort, 1973).

Image Source: Starr and Oort, 1973
Today these recorded 1960-1965 and 1958-1963 cooling trends have been fully erased and replaced with a slight warming or pause.
