Education insanity

That part of what liberals are doing is very important and much needed. What isn't useful... activism like we see from environmentalists who oppose oil and gas pipelines, power transmission lines, and just about any initiative that impacts the environment, useful or not, to "raise consciousness." We had more trouble with smug purists trying to co-opt our multi-community effort, ultimately successful, to stop the creation of a $2b garbage dump by twenty cities in a rural-suburban area than from any other source. The so-called environmentalists were uninformed about the issues around landfills and waste streams generally, and they were more interested in promoting a "save the planet" message than getting something done.

We ran into exactly that from some parents. We built support from parents generally by letting them know exactly what we were doing around race and ethnicity. There was no opportunity for bigots to misrepresent what we were doing.

While I am a very green kind of person, I do find some of the zealots to be quite counterproductive. While know nothing of the $2b dump, I do remember following the controversy and construction of a then innovative garbage dump in Colorado. From a scientific, engineering, and environmental point of view, I thought that they did a pretty good job. What many of the radicals don’t seem to appreciate is that many of those children who experienced the first Earth Days/Arbor Days grew up to be professionals who have taken those ideas into the corporate world. While there are companies who are more than willing to pollute with abandon, there are many who would rather not. Energy efficiencies have come from within. It is one of those ever present competitions between engineers, a more efficient engine.

Green technologies have been growing for decades. It seems to me that we are on the cusp of reaching a tipping point. Where we, as a society, will shift from gasoline powered cars, to electric ones. Kind of like the seismic shift when CD’s replaced vinyl records. The greening of America comes not from pressure from radical environmentalists, but rather by the efforts of scientists, engineers, and managers who see the benefits in a more green society. Environmentally sound products sell well.

Well the OP has a point about indoctrination. I went to a community college in a heavy republican area. Taking political science and suddenly and off topic, the instructor shows a video of a live abortion and proceeded to berate pro choice folks.

If pushing a narrative only requires cherry picked lists of incidents from a pool of millions of students/teachers...well then I guess you can push any narrative you want.

 

Not hating other races doesn't mean anyone hates their own race.

Like I said in my post that you quoted, it’s being done in calculated small bites. I believe if it’s allowed to be ignored, future generations of whites especially white men will be adversely effected.
I advocate the promise of equality and success for all, as long as it’s not done at the expense of my white sons.

The problem wasn't design of the landfill, but the proposed location in an area that gets a lot of rainfall. It would have been all but impossible to collect the leachate, get rid of heavy metals and other toxins, and return the water to the environment. They ultimately located in an area 150 miles away that gets less than 10" of rain annually.

We got a lot of covert help opposing the dump from their project engineers who agreed with us as soon as they realized we were looking for answers, not trying to use the dump creation as a chance to grandstand and collect donations. In the end, the pols agreed with us when we let them save face and alter their proposal.

All true. People who understand these technologies also have kids and grandkids they think about.

 

I don't know if you're talking about universities or public schools, but they both share the absence of market discipline. As someone who put his courses online as soon as there was an accessible internet--students and parents alike could get copies of course materials and assignments on my website--I'm disappointed, though not surprised, in how poorly K-12 schools have adapted to what we used to call "distance education." The tools available today are fabulous by comparison to even ten years ago.

I could easily teach a lot of courses I had over the years entirely online.

BTW, I support school vouchers as long as they're big enough to cover the entire cost of a good education. A $3,000 voucher for a poor family is like a lifesaver tossed out of reach of drowning swimmers.
