    No, it isn't.

    It was always common place.

The only difference between 50 years ago and now is the rise of the Media and Social Media Platforms.

The only reason Americans knew anything of the Manson killings is because Sharon Tate was an actress who was doing the nasty with a noted film director, namely, Roman Polanski.

If Sharon Tate had been Plain Jane, it would have been local news only.

Now, to fill air-time on Cable TV, every shooting everywhere is hyped.

That's not gonna work due to demographic and cultural dynamics which are non-existent in foreign States.

Except that would lead to a civil war and the side that wins will still be bearing arms.

    Some things you could do:

    1) New federal law: any person age 13 or older who illegally possesses a firearm or uses a firearm in the commission of a crime gets minimum mandatory 25-to-Life Sentence with possibility of parole.

    2) Any person age 13 or older who murders or injures another with a firearm gets mandatory life and if a murder occurred, then death penalty where applicable.

    3) Both the government and Media need to come down on Black Culture which glorifies gun violence and promotes deaths and injuries in cities like Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago, Louisville, Baltimore, St Louis et al -- note that foreign States have no cities like that -- except we all now that neither government nor the Media nor so-called "Black Leaders" (snicker) will ever do that.

    4) Closing the border with Mexico will go a long way to prevent gun-runners from smuggling weapons into the US. Unfortunately, many guns are also smuggled by pleasure craft. I was on a joint task force in Virginia, and you'd shocked at how many weapons are smuggled into the US along the public and private beaches, as well as the public and private marinas in Virginia. I would venture to guess the same is true for all States with coasts (and don't forget that includes States along the Mississippi-Ohio-Missouri Rivers).

    5) It should be policy to confiscate weapons whenever a DV complaint is made or a CRO is issued. That would go a long way to reducing spouse murders.

    6) Contrary to popular belief, the right to bear arms is not absolute. The Framers of the Constitution never intended the mentally ill or common criminals to have the right possess weapons.Having said that, it has to be balanced with Due Process, meaning the State can only confiscate or prohibit someone from owning a firearm after presenting evidence in a neutral forum with a neutral arbiter and the person can present evidence to show they are not a threat.

This is no way translates to the claim that AR15s are the weapons of choice for mass shootings.

    For obvious reasons.
The "weapon of choice" for mass shootings, in terms of the number of shootings thy are used in and the number of people that re used to kill, is the handgun.

It's hard to get pump action shot guns too. I tried to get a permit and found it incredibly onerous.
I had to travel interstate to attend a number of courses - some 300 miles. And then I had to get
a permit on my side of the border as I couldn't move the firearm across the border. And I have
to have on-going permit checks, police checks and the like. I gave up.
Yes, not 'why' did someone shoot a bunch of people (let's face it, at some stage we all wanted
to go shoot someone we didn't like!) but 'how.'
Without the guns you have to use a knife, or a club, or choke people. That slows you down and
give people time to escape your plans.

I think background checks for those buying guns is a place to start.

Unfortunately, the GOP opposes that even though it is popular even among Republicans.

As for the rest, there are a lot of ideas.

I will say that owners should be responsible for the guns they own. If they allow their guns to their kids, friends, or take no action toward security against theft, etc., and those persons commit crimes, the gun owner should carry responsibility for such crimes.

A common theme in the slaughter of school children is that the perp lived in a home where multiple guns and plenty of ammo were easily available.

True. Gun owners need to be held responsible for the "use" of their weapons.

She trained her kid to use the good number of guns she had and made them easily available to her kid who had VERY SERIOUS and very well known mental problems.

It is NOT going to be the case that any single law will make the kind of reduction desired.

Today, the GOP even blocks background checking. Surely there could not be a less intrusive measure possible.

And, even the hit/miss watered down poorly funded partial checking we have had denied guns to many whom I think we can agree should not have guns.

We ARE a Christian nation. And, THIS is what we have.

If you think Christians aren't doing it right, how about fixing THAT before suggesting that only your religion works?

"Onward Christian Soldiers" and Billy Graham's call for greater slaughter in Vietnam come to mind. Our Christian direction brings us FABULOUS military and police power with almost zero effort in deescalation and negotiation. We justify our aggression by pointing to what we call Christian principles.

And, that is a startling contrast to, for just one example, Gandhi.

How about this for a suggestion??/ Every applicant that wants a weapon....... should attend at least half a day in EMERGENCY Or go on a ride with first res-ponders to shooting" accidents ". Of all kinds.. and see the results of those weapon related activities Believe me......it is NOT like those silly TV programs. Applicants should be exposed to what the REALITY is. They should have a visual experience of what weapons do to a human body........ and what it takes to recover .....and how it affects the family.
IOW.....the more "education" a person has from various perspectives as he/she applies for this weapon......... the wiser the decision ...

The applicant might take time to evaluate his motives for obtaining a weapon........ with more clarity. Not just because it is some right...........

Not sure that many would be wiling to do any introspection on the matter. they want things simple. " I have a right to have a weapon.......therefore I will get one. Simple."

Background checks are required if you buy from a dealer. The GOP does not oppose this.
Background checks are only required if you purchase a gun through a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL), which includes retailers (anyone from Walmart to mom and pop shops) and some individuals. You do not need to undergo a background check if you buy a gun online, through a gun show, or through some private sales.

Jesus read memorized and validated scripture. He didn't contradict it. He didn't need to mention every sin. Scripture was sufficient.
The Bible doesn't treat women as second class citizens. They are valued.

For a Christian nation........there is a heck of a lot of killing going on. Kinda makes a mockery of the wisdom that was preached , just over 2000 yrs ago. Oh yes... that HUMAN factor of justification and rationalization.
If everyone followed the " Thou shalt not kill" philosophy........ who would need guns??

Christians are enlightened by the Holy Spirit - if they turn to God and ask that is. This is why it's called Grace. It's a gift that comes from God. This is why laws in Christianity is secondary, because man on his own cannot perfect his heart.

The USSC said that in 2008, in the home. Not outside the home.
But 2A says no infringement. Yet we have all kinds of infringement. Some of which you agree to.

The best way to eliminate the killing, is by eliminating the occult on the internet, because that's what the police find when they examine the computers - but it's not politically correct to say so.

What we have now are Satanists who want their faith to be equal to Christianity, and the Aztecs will be going back to their old faith. What about the human sacrifice, will they bring that back as well?

    When Satan Reigns
    [IMG]
    Whatever's false they'll say it's true
and throw the lies back onto you.
And what is right they'll say it's wrong.
Then woe to all, it won't be long.
When everyone will wear a frown.
For what is 'up', they'll call it 'down'.
Then try to make the day a night
so dark can reign, without the light. - Jeannette

Of course God does, but He can't protect or help someone unless they ask Him. But instead of asking, they reject God until it's too late.

The GOP has worked to water down background checks at stores by shortening the time limit on checking (so many sales don't get checked), limiting funding for doing the checks, limiting funding for policing that system, etc.

The news says the Boulder shooter got same day service - the gun "safety" issue critically important to the GOP.

I've NEVER heard a Christian say there were things their God can not do!!

I wonder what else that particular god is incapable of doing.

Fact is, you can get them.
And thus, you have access to firearms that can kill dozens of people in minutes.
    So, again:
Why can't you wake to the news of a mass shooting in some Aussie city tomorrow morning?

    A false statement, willfully made.
    Of course he did.
That's how the law the Democrats put in place in 1993 works.

I think they see it as a right not just to have guns, but to have instant access to all the guns they can buy.

As for "responsible", what I've heard from many is that it is the responsibility of the police and courts to hold people responsibile. Outside of that, I don't see the GOP considering that responsibility has anything at all to do with it.

They note that no significant crime has taken place until the bullet actually hits my grandchild's forehead. THEN they can try to arrest someone!! I'm SO thankful.

It's as if they think there is a penalty high enough that the particular crime won't be committed.

Of course, these mass shooters often kill themselves. So in the case of gun murder, depending on a penalty phase is especially ridiculous.
