It doesn't feature an instant answer the way it works now. I, for one, don't want any potential employer to have an excuse to hire an illegal.

I know a Nexus card type system could give instant answers. Better ideas? I'm all ears. Do nothing? More of the same? I can't hear folks pushing that.

Not to me. They don't want control that an instant answer e-verify system would give a Republican President.

I think they should try to get a deal where an effective e-verify system is created in return for allowing some (how many?) of illegals here now too stay.

 

Maybe they can make their system work. Nexus links iris scans, pictures, and fingerprints. No reason it can't be done another way.

They don't want a President to find and remove illegals? To me, if they're found via E-Verify, that means that got their jobs with fraudulent documentation and identity fraud, which are felonies. And the Democrats want those criminals to stay.

Among many liberals, and many moderates, there's resistance to jailing illegals even more than e-verifying them out of a job and seeing them leave because they have no work. The key to gaining liberal support is to make a deal on the people here now.

No; you need to reform those US stooges - eg, the IMF and the WTO - to oversee prosperous development in ALL countries, as proposed by Keynes in 1944, with his "clearing union" and "bankor" concepts.

But the US found itself the most powerful nation in the world after WW2...and rejected Keynes' sensible proposals for global development...and the rest is history , eg CIA successive overthrow of democratic governments who chose NOT to put "America First". Disgusting, and directly responsible (because the US was in charge) for our current broken world, manifesting inter alia by the chaos on the Mexican border.

 

I don't think there is any appetite for E-Verify on the Democratic side. What they seem to want is amnesty and no enforcement. They may figure that once the filibuster comes down, they can get just that.

 

So the whole world is America's problem.

 

I think they would go along with a tight system in return for a deal for those already here who aren't criminals.

 

I won't hold my breath waiting for E-Verify to show up in a Democratic amnesty bill. I mean, why would they? What's their incentive?

That was then. There are two separate amnesty bills floating around Congress right now and neither of them have E-Verify.

 

Yet as you point out it already exists. Could you verify your assertion please.

Those are bills with specific agendas, not comprehensive immigration reform bills that would typically included programs like E-Verify.
