Oh..I thought of it too. But I knew the reaction it would bring.;-) Simply....not a viable "solution". Can't you just hear the outcry??;-) The fear o of losing their guns would cause many to behave violently. a self perpetuating cycle !!!

Humans are not robots. They are emotional beings.

Yeah, maybe the masses can't be trusted to vote.

Finding a way to get those who commit violent crime - a fairly specific demographic - to place more value on life and the rights of others.

    Swimming enthusiasts are a menace.

Two toddlers dead from one pool in a week. When will we take this seriously? Why is our selfish desire to swim more important than the lives of these precious children? What kind of animals support a pastime so deadly? Sad.

I already don't watch much tv and never the news. It's getting to the point that I hate coming online at all. This is getting old very quickly.

I didn't mean that I don't care about the problems. I'm just exhausted today. My apologies if I sounded apathetic.

No apology necessary. I totally understand what you are saying. Sometimes it truly gets to be an overload ..

Because the Slippery Slope Argument is not inherently fallacious. If you do doubt, might I suggest you read peer-reviewed articles published in scholarly journals highlighting numerous examples where it was demonstrated to be true.

Hierarchical structures crave expansion of power and control. Study sociology. It doesn't matter if the hierarchical structure is a government, a corporation and non-governmental organization or a church.

The only way to prevent that is a system of Checks & Balances. The US had a beautiful system of the Federal Government vs the States vs the People.

But, that system has been eroded by a constitutional amendment that allows for the direct election of Senators instead of having the State legislatures select the Senators for their State.

And, what have we seen in the 100 years since then?

Other than collect the federal excise tax on gasoline and forward it to the Treasury, what exactly do States do?

The federal government has stripped States of what little powers they had, making them more like vassals in a feudal system.

Governments ultimately become tyrannical if there is no check on power and an armed citizenry capable of engaging and defeating the government's army is what is necessary to prevent that.

    But you can't win.

Wrong. You can't win. You've never led troops in the field or planned combat operations. This ain't 1864 where we line up on opposite sides of a field and shoot at each other when we see the white's of the enemy's eyes. And this ain't 1915 in the Ardennes where everyone is in trenches and you lob artillery at each other and then occasionally have an irrational suicidal charge into machine guns.

You don't need tanks or planes or nukes to win, but you do need personal weapons that are at least one or two under par to what the government fields.

The Liberal plan is to move the US from a federation to a unitary-State, which will be a dismal failure. Personally, I wish they would do it tomorrow so the civil war can start the day after and then we won't have to put up with Liberals any longer.

If you don't understand why a unitary-State with a heterogeneous society will result in government atrocities, then you haven't been living on Earth for very long.

To say, "Removing guns is the first step to Communism" is like saying "Drinking milk is the first step to heroin addiction".

More on the Texas shooting today.

One dead, officer injured and one person detained after shooting at Knoxville, Tenn., high school

There is no place that is safe from shooting "incidents" in the USA .........and THAT is the biggest hindrance to any freedoms that folks think they have. Security companies do a great business. Owning weapons seems to provide a sense of "security" and "safety".........if merely psychological.

I was talking to a friend earlier and she commented that this is Biden's fault. She thinks it's worsened since he took office. I have checked on the stats but I doubt it that mass shooting, cop killings and cop deaths have increased just in the past three months.

I know some posters here think it's all fake and they are bombarding us with this kind of news as a way to take away people's guns. I don't believe ANY amount of shooting deaths and accidental shootings will cause gun lovers to give them up so what's the point in trying?

I have no magic answers here. It's all a big mess. I remember a time when people knew their neighbors, looked out for another, could make a decent living and generally had more peace in their lives. I really think we need to focus on our own backyard before telling other countries how to run theirs.
