Full title of article - Entire California school board RESIGNS after they were caught on video mocking parents and claiming they want only want schools reopened so 'they can smoke pot'
Why would any rational adult have these type of conversations, let alone do it when there is a possibility that others may be listening? Technology is advanced. There is always the possibility that someone is listening and/or recording.

I wonder how they are going to get all those positions filled and keep the classes going with so much of their staff wiped out.

I appreciate that the Superintendent took responsibility and didn't try to minimize or excuse their behavior.

    What do you think?

I think they should all resign, like they did.

TIME TO FIRE THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
    [IMG]
Bureaucrats and school boards are in the pockets of the unions, not serving the families.
Oakley Union Elementary School District, in northern California:
"How ridiculous–parents wanting teachers to actually do the jobs for which they are being paid."

"If they are" just "running a babysitting service, our teachers and school administrators are grossly overpaid."

"Post-pandemic, public school enrollment will decline, a good thing. The standing of teachers in the public’s estimation will also decline significantly — another good development."

They had an opportunity to really stand up for their communities, and we all see what they are doing instead.

May I suggest a tangential thread? Since school boards are often used by neophyte politically-inclined people as a stepping stone to higher political offices, they are not really about education but about individual ideology and ambition. Let's do away with them.

My suggestion for a tangential thread is: "Why not abolish school boards?" What good are they anyway?

When I studied for a Master's degree in Secondary Social Studies Teaching, we learned that the public and public officials, and the school administrators they use as enforcers and puppets, continually focus on funding and ideological issues. We found no data which indicated that throwing money at education made much difference int he final results.

Furthermore, school board members who focused on ideology were are still are mocked by both teachers and students (and indeed intelligent educated citizens) for their ridiculous attempts to subvert free speech and exposure to all forms of information and communication. A school board is not in loco parentis no matter what they think. The members have no right to influence what my child learns or does not learn, and neither do they have the right to use money or fiats or media pressure to influence how educational materials must be crafted. You know as well as I do they do not trust the educational professionals to spend "public money" wisely. So, how good are the public schools??? They are so bad prospective teachers don't even want to enter the profession, and loads of experienced teachers either left or function demoralized.

For example, who remembers Robert Morris? (Hint: mentioned in American History texts as a member of the group of patriot "founding fathers.") Yes, you are right! You remembered the history book in high school said he helped to fund the revolution. BUT! You did not read anything about how after the war was over he bought up the chits the veterans were paid (they were paid IOU's instead of cash), for pennies on the dollar? There are so many examples of distortions and lies by omission in USA textbooks, because they are "screened" and "evaluated," and otherwise ideologically "edited" to fit the propaganda or to put it more gently, to "formulate the stories" our children are told. School Boards have not served our nation well over the past oh, I don't know how long exactly, but say century.

Why, fundamentally, do educators need meddlers and political hacks to tell them what they can and cannot do?

Umm, if you don't like this thread idea, how about "home schooling?" Oh, yes, do you get a wiff of indoctrination and protection from exposure to ideas the parents reject?

Poor kids today are getting the bull pucky thrown at them from all directions, but alas many don't even know that.
