Was the RNC on the list of things Biden told Putin were off limits to hacking? Biden has his work cut out for him because he’s seen as weak and not capable of taking action when things like this happen. Right now he’s probably more concerned with the recent news that China donated $50 million to the Biden Center at U of Penn right after he announced his run for president. Anyway, we have a lot of cyberattacks occurring in a short period of time and so far we’ve heard nothing about what’s being done to punish the attackers or prevent future attacks.
I am a little fuzzy on when it became the government's job to protect private businesses IT systems. Perhaps they should invest in a bit more security along those lines
That's what you all said in 2016 to explain Trump winning. It was Russian Interference aka collusion...
Not me. Russia did not care who won, just wanted to sow distrust in the system. Trump finished the job for them in 2020. But thanks again for the reminder there is no difference between the rightwing and the leftwing.
This original story has not been substantiated. There is no evidence that a hack took place. The story cites "two people familiar with the matter." That's always been code for "were just making **** up. Later in the article, the author admits that an RNC spokesperson denied that the system was hacked. There was no evidence. It's fake news.
Bold #1 - LOL... of course not... it was things important to America.... Bold #2 - No kidding... that's the way it should be until after something happens...
Bloomberg writes that it spoke to "two people familiar with the matter." That's the basis for their narrative. They provide no evidence that a hack occurred. The RNC spokesperson said it didn't happen, so Bloomberg only provides evidence demonstrating that their narrative is false. If there's no named source behind their assertion, the assertion must be presumed false until they can demonstrate credible evidence. So it's fake news.
The NY Times and WaPo are also running with this story. Attempted Hack of R.N.C. and Russian Ransomware Attack Test Biden The breach of a Republican National Committee contractor, also linked to Russia, and the global ransomware attack occurred weeks after a U.S.-Russian summit. Early indications were that the culprit was Russia’s S.V.R. intelligence agency, according to investigators in the case. The S.V.R. is the group that initially hacked the Democratic National Committee six years ago and more recently conducted the SolarWinds attack that penetrated more than a half-dozen government agencies and many of the largest U.S. corporations https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/06/technology/rnc-hacked-cyberattack-russia.html
When secretary Clinton's embarrassing emails were revealed, and it revealed the nature of the candidate(which shouldn't be off limits to us the voters anyway), that's when it became the government's business. Because if most of these cronies true nature were revealed, you'd have a Matt Gaetz around almost every corner. Which is why at that time in 2016, while I of course denounce the criminal actions that led to the leaks, as a more informed voter I couldn't complain. It's a Snowden thing where the goods outweighed the bad. I'd still pardon Snowden to this day, which is a bit of a reverse of my position in 2013-2015, but I see now we need these types in a controlled setting. They can help us flesh out bad actors.
I'll repeat my objections for the third time. No Evidence. You provided a source that's not accessible, but I've read articles that site the NYTimes. The NYTimes hasn't provided any evidence that the initial Solarwinds attack was perpetrated by Russia. They are just repeating a narrative that has yet to be verified. We only know that Chinese hackers were behind the second attack that compromised the patched software, because Microsoft provided the information. They can trace it back to the Chinese hack on the National Finance Center. That's evidence. A through Z. The part about Russia, they can give you nothing concrete. M https://siliconangle.com/2021/02/02...ember-chinese-hackers-linked-solarwinds-hack/ In regards to the RNC servers, I will repeat. No evidence.
That was the Democrat line for 5 years while Trump was running and during his term. Now Biden's kissing their behinds.
It has nothing to do with Biden's strength or weakness, and everything to do with the vulnerability of our own systems, and quite possibly no pre-worked out strategy for this, as we have run through, in simulations, when it comes to different military engagements. Because the government does business with many companies, if they are vulnerable, so are our federal data banks. Also, these hackers are known to have hit businesses (as a meat processor, in Brazil) that have the potential to be very disruptive to the nation at large, as by affecting the food or energy supplies.
Not everything. But this. Well if you're waiting for the government to share its top-secret info, and make public its methods of discovering what it did, you're gonna have a long wait. Our government has no incentive to blame Russia; it puts Biden in a very tough position, with few good options. It would be far less dicey to say these business ransomeware attacks came from cyber-criminals, not tied to any state. And the attempted RNC hack, would give the Administration a little bit more slack, in the public's eyes, if it were blamed on North Korea.
Hey, @Steve N , You've got two similar threads, both under Current Events. Did you want to keep the threads separate, for some reason? I'm going to repost my one contribution to that thread. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.foxbusiness.com/technology/cyberattacks-russia-revil-per-week.amp Things are getting R-eal. The business cyber attacks are now being tied to a Russian cyber-criminal group, Revil (pronounced, "Are - evil). It has also been found that the ransomware is written so that it will not attack any Russian entities, or those in the countries of Russia's allies. This is done through language; that is, the program will not attack any computer using the Russian language, for example. There seems to be no doubt that: 1) the attacks come from within Russia, and 2) Putin has given them the OK, provided they avoid attacks within Russia or on the entities of any one of her allies. Obviously, Biden is going to want Putin's help, apprehending these hackers and, just as patently clear, Putin is not going to give it. I think Biden's best response, at present, is to get sanctions through Congress (if necessary) to target Putin's finances, personally. This is something we have never done, as it has not been considered appropriate protocol, to target a leader, for grievances against his nation. But allowing this criminal cyber group to operate on Russian soil, blurs the line between civilian hackers, and state-sponsored, cyber-crime, so is also beyond the boundaries of international conventions. In fact, today there was another attack, on a contractor for the RNC (Repub Nat'l Committee), that we are saying came not from the Russian criminal enterprise, but from the Russian government, itself. In order to meet these attacks, with our own, on Russia, Biden is in the unenviable position of needing to have all U.S. government, and business, cyber safeguards overhauled and beefed-up, which will take time. If it were me, though, as soon as we could feel confident about our defenses, I would order a well-planned, and full-on, attack against Russian interests, to really f' them up, and provide a strongly dis-incentivizing example, for other nations. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...day-cyberattack.589684/page-6#post-1072761211
Didn’t you guys tell us for 4 years we wouldn’t know if it was russia and that the fbi needs the server to check?
