    Naughty.
You should always have someone else around when you are working on a roof. I've seen too many nasty falls.

I did not want to burden anyone and it had to be done.

That's kind, but I'm sure your friends of family would prefer to help than worry about you lying face down on the patio.

Besides in my experience people like helping each other. :)

I was on the top of a 30' ladder trying to pull the ivy off the roof of my house in France thinking I should have someone holding the ladder.
I get worse with heights the older I get.
Sometimes you just have to get on with it though.

There are times your mind says 'No big, get it done', and your body quietly laughs and says 'just wait'.

I've learned that the cost of bodily pain and/or injury can exceed the few dollars I can pay to the neighbor's kid.

The idea of sending a young child up a ladder to carry out dangerous work for me never crossed my mind.
The only real alternative was paying professional builders to do the job and I didn't have the money for that.

20210407_145648.jpg I also have a problem with folks handling sheet metal. The stuff could cut a person severely. 20210427_134403.jpg I also had a money shortage and had to finish the bedroom on the other side of the house as money arrived.

The roof was so bad it had to be fixed. I put down 1x4 furring strips and put the metal over it. My old body could hardly take it. I would rest a couple of days after a days work. But....no leaks. And it has rained a lot this year.

One is 16, the other 18. I'd hardly deem them 'a young child'. It's not like one doesn't check with the parents first, that's common courtesy.

Does AARP have articles about hot dance clubs or dive bars in the reminisce section of their magazine? Anyone know?

You been south of that mason's line for a while.

Did you forget about getting behind a dump truck on the highway, getting his plate number, pulling on the side of him and unrolling your window pointing to your windshield and shaking your fist?
    LOL

You just need to make more small children for these kinds of jobs. ;-)

    Lovely job. Very neat.
Ah, I'm disappointed now. I had an image of you using a fork to force your 6 year old grand child up the ladder. :p

You naughty child! That isn't just a Southern thing, believe me lol.

I've been down here 21+ years now. Am I still considered a Yankee? There are a number of phrases that answer that: If you put a cat in the oven, that doesn't make it a biscuit. Southern is more than geography, it's a state of mind.

Now if I could quit say 'you guys' maybe I'd blend in better. :)

A friend from a prior life was one of 9 kids. The father claimed it was so he had a kid for each chore he didn't want to do, and one to fetch his beer.

    That's called planning. :)

I spent too many years on building sites. Saw two serious falls, one with a broken back, one with a punctured lung

No experience with tile roofs but I also had no experience with metal roofing. I learned from you tube.

The roof needs doing but I'm ignoring it until I can afford to do it.
It doesn't actually leak which is quite remarkable considering how many tiles are missing.
Pin tiles have a hole in them so you just nail them to the batons.
Mine are very frost damaged. It can get down to -25C in the winter and they can crack.
It's a barn conversion. It was made into a holiday home about 35-40 years ago so those tiles didn't last long if they were new when they went on.
It's more likely they just re-used the old tiles when it was re-roofed.
