I already discovered what they have. They have "horrific jumping mines". They are not used against tourists........ obviously.

True, at least according to our government and the propaganda networks of our totalitarian State.

No doubt the Russians go to Finland on shopping sprees for EU products, since Putin stopped all imports with the first sanctions.

Tiny economy aside, it's rather fragile as a power.

Kiev was always Russia. The Orthodox Metropolitan in Kiev 'moved to Moscow when the Catholic Polish/Lithuanian Empire occupied the area called Ukraine. Now the Russians in Western Ukraine who went under the Pope, want to say they are Ukrainians and not Russians, even though there has never been a nation called Ukraine, otherwise they would have had a king - which they never did.

The dissidents in Western Ukraine that we supported, want to separate all the Russian and Orthodox people in Ukraine from their heritage and the Patriarchate of Moscow. From what I read, priests have been beaten and churches confiscated by the Nazis, and are now empty because the people refuse to go into a church they consider heretical.

Why don't you tell us about the Bear's tiny economy? You being the on-the-ground Russian expert and all.

I patiently wait for you to drag out GDP numbers....then you will be shown the error of your ways.

You would be more convincing if you had numbers of your own that contradicted what somebody else reported. Russia's GDP is $1.7T. That is smaller than Canada, Italy, UK and France and 2.5X smaller than Germany and 1/3 the size of Japan.

How then could Russia deploy, transport equip, feed and provide medical care for a sizable force some place?

You did it again. Do not ask me to do the work for you. You provide that information if it helps you to make a point.

You'll find out soon enough. That is if Britain dares to make another move in the Black Sea.

Heh. China and Russia have both been playing this propaganda game lately. It's meant more for a domestic audience than you or me, so relax. Russia isn't going to be nuking your place any time soon.

The UK spends about the same on military that Russia does.

Never forget the Neocon idiots who got us into a war in Iraq. Remember how Saddam was using yellow cake uranium to make a suitcase nuke? Not!

Max Boot is one such moron. Ralph Peters is another. Note that Max Boot invokes the name of Mitt Romney as a fellow neocon.

Russia's annual military spending is similar to the UK and Saudi Arabia. If Japan and Germany spent 2% of their GDP on military they would be spending much more.

Who are Russia's military allies? Belarus and countries with stan at the end of their name.

Russia spends 1/10th of the amount the US spends on its military, and yet it has the second most powerful force. It's because Russia doesn't need to import anything. It has the natural resources and all the parts it needs. Also food and rent is cheap because everything is local, so the workers take a lower pay.

Russia is an export country, and it sells its products for the Euro or the American dollar and since the Ruble is low in value, it makes their products more competitive. Also the foreign currency goes a long way in Russia, so the industries can use it to expand their business'.

Another reason they keep the Ruble low, is that it discourages people from spending their money in other countries, since the money doesn't go far there.

    So what does Russia export:

Gas, oil, coal, uranium ore, wheat, timber, diamonds, lead, zinc, bauxite, nickel, tin, mercury, gold, silver, palladium, platinum etc., etc., and thousands of different gemstones. It also exports high tech products and rockets - specifically to the US.

This is why our government is so against Russia, because they have what we want and need. Our steel industry alone is dependent on Russian coal. If our government was willing to work with Russia, then there wouldn't have been any problem and both countries would have gained. But they didn't.

They hate Vladimir Putin because they wanted to continue doing what they did under the Yeltsin years, when the Russians were going hungry, and everything was being bought up by criminal oligarchs with money from foreign banks. They in turn were sending Russia's wealth to off shore accounts.

And yet the UK's militarily is laughable compared to the Russian Federation. So you figure it out.

No one is talking about nukes. It's their standing forces one has to worry about, but you know that.

The Russian Federation has 85 nations/states within it, so why does it need more military allies? The Chechnyans alone would be enough.

 Their standing forces? Not here. Our police could take them if they tried setting foot here.

    How is that?
    Enough for what?

Invading tiny poor countries? Russia's population is 145 million no matter how many ways you tried to dice it up. The NATO countries have a combined 40 trillion GDP. Russia and it's allies combined have a GDP of 2 trillion. It's a joke.

Man for man the United Kingdoms military vastly outclasses that of the Russians. Russians survive on what Russians have always survived on. Sheer size of their territory and raw numbers.

Those raw numbers are severely dwindled now.....in Soviet times...they had the luxury of those oppressed colonies to shed blood...times have changed.

Russian army also has major morale issues. Where you are stationed is the result of who you know.

Kyiv was always Russia....not according to the one thread I started....basically where Moscow stands now would be hryvnia currency and yellow/blue flag if history is truthful, Jen.
