The Spaniards eventually screwed up the relationship. After Apache POWs got to hard to catch and enslave for the mines south of here, they started enslaving the Jumano.. who then segued into the Jumano Apache.

There's a certain way to pack things. Dry ice can pose a carbon dioxide hazard in enclosed vehicles and spaces. Sublimates....I recently learned this means a solid turns into a gas, bypassing a liquid state.

Sanibel island is just a bit south of Bocca, anyone ever been there? I have but the last time was in 97. Ft Myers is very close by.
They charge 6 bucks to get on the islands, they must make a killing when the snowbirds are here, of course if you arrive by boat, no charge.

LOL, we do it by the quart here. Between the sun and the beer and physical effort of paddling, I was plum tuckered out yesterday.

Never been out West, have not left Fl since I was 8 yo. I gotta have a coast nearby. It's a 50 mile drive but that's easy enough. You gotta have big $ to live on those Islands....a local was once heard to complain....."all the billionaires are driving the millionaires off the island".

Closer to the Everglades, areas of the Ten thousand islands are pretty undeveloped. Maybe I should quit my job, spend my life savings on a house boat and move down there? LOL, would but that I could, need some kinda income to do much but straight live off the land.

Perspiration is probably the only moisture you'll find in some parts of the Southwest. How are the conditions in your area?

You would really have to ask a melon farmer if watermelons are a crop.
    Have you ever grown them?

I'm confused. Is that a different island, or are you a fisherman?

I would love to be near a coast, truth be told, but the coasts are rather prohibitive for several reasons. Plus, I do like having actual seasons and a white Christmas :D

No yes I do fish that little island where I took that picture was just a little spot that I paddled towards to take a slight break it's not easy paddling a kayak and wind and currents I was trying to get to the other larger Island but it turned out not to be such a great idea in those conditions another day

We do have seasons hot and cold , the coast is nice but I wouldn't want to be there during a hurricane. There are people who live on houseboats you will see them moored in backwaters I guess ever so often you have to pull up stakes and move so far if someone messes with you and enforces the law I suppose

Florida doesn't get cold. Comfortably cool, maybe.

It does get cold in Florida..even snows at times. [IMG][IMG] It is rare but it happens. The pond in the picture has had ice around it's edges before without snow. [IMG]

Is that a "polar vortex" effect or is it more frequent and normal?

    Is that your pooch, daisy?

    Looks like a Border Collie.

Years ago a couple stray Border Collie pups around 6 months old showed up at our place and we looked after them until we found them a home with a cattle rancher out in Buckingham County. Ridiculously smart dogs. Charles Krauthammer once joked that he expected to come home one day and find his Border Collie reading the newspaper (probably checking his stocks in The Wall Street Journal  ).

It is a rare occurrence. We get frost quite a bit but snow is rare. This happened in 2010 and everyone was cold that year.

He is a Border Collie and has a big family tree.
You have to spell words around him and some of the spellings he understands. My husbands jokes about signing him up for college. He loves to ride and has identified his duties as being the backseat driver. His favorite thing to see is the big rigs, they fascinate him. He keeps his eyes on the road and he acts like you are interrupting if you talk to him. Everyone should have his work ethic. He is good figuring out things he wants to do.

    Daktari was always my favourite.
I've wanted a zebra striped Landrover ever since.

I don't remember that show (and a zebra striped Land Rover would be cool).

Probably my favorite show growing up was Wild Kingdom - this episode is literally as old as I am

I was pleasantly surprised to find that RFD-TV has been broadcasting episodes of Wild Kingdom lately.

By the way, for all the Americans out there who live in the sticks like I do, RFD-TV is asking for your help. Since the Feds are going to be handing out money to broadband providers to get their service out to where we live, RFD is asking folks to ensure that those providers broadcast rural content. If you're interested you'll have to act quick (I saw the appeal on DirecTV last weekend):
