I'm interested to see what he has to say about all this death when a lot of it was preventable.

I hope he'll man up and accept responsibility, since he made the call. Not sure how binding the agreement between Trump and Taliban was, but I don't think it forced Biden's hand.

From what I understand, Biden ignored that agreement (Because tRump!) and that's why the Taliban is taking over.
Biden thought it would be better optics if he broke the deal Trump signed with The Taliban and waited until 9/11.
That made the Taliban mad so they started taking over.
So this fail was entirely preventable.

 

That's not how blame-game works.

What would a success look like? We had a "deal" with Taliban which puts them in power and now they are in power. Did this deal have to be honored? No, but they honored it, so now that country is going down the tubes as expected.

No, the agreement was with Taliban specifically (no one else) to put them in power, or shared power, but only a child would think they'd actually share anything.

 

Biden did not honor the deal made with the Taliban so now they are taking the power by force.

Probably not millions of dollars in weapons and equipment left behind and 10s of thousands of unnecessary deaths and rapes.

This is a screw up of epic proportion.

I can't think of any US president that has screwed up this largely.

What did you think the peace deal with Taliban was all about? It was about transitioning power to Taliban in exchange of US leaving the country. Why would they agree to anything less? How Trump thought terrorists would honor any kind of deal is beyond me, but it is what it is.

Eeehhhh.....Everyone involved in Vietnam. We lost 3000 in Afghanistan, but we lost 56 000 in Vietnam and out involvement there was far larger than any point of Afghanistan. We had over 500 000 troops there for several years.

We had nothing to gain in Afghanistan, and everyone know what would happen when we left. The only other option would have been to leave forces there indefinitely, like we did with South Korea and some other places. That may have been a better option, but it seems that most Americans wanted us out.

 

When Xoe speaks today at 3:45 all that will come out of his mouth is stupid, a whole lot of stupid.

Well, maybe he's running this speech like his Afghani withdrawal.

 

At least one thing most people should agree with: Americans should not fight for a people who are not willing to fight for themselves.

The truth is that Afghans made deals with Taliban and gave up without a fight.

Meaning? The weapons which were given to Afghan forces might end up with Taliban, but we have been hauling our equipment out since May.

The 6000 US troops sent there are to make sure our people are coming out safely.

All in all, the speech was not bad. It makes sense we should not spend another 20 years fighting for people who wont fight for themselves. He also accepted responsibility for making the call.
