Evidently so. It's a rather poor Bill but I suppose it would fool some folks. Besides from the appearance being somewhat off as soon as I touched it I knew something was wrong it felt like a a very worn bill but just not right

Maybe the counterfeiter is hoping the small denomination, makes them less likely to be discovered-- do banks even check ones, in a comprehensive way? Perhaps they also feel it will make their crime a low priority for FBI follow-up. There is quite a bit of, high-quality, counterfeiting going on, apparently. So, if the person only made a few, they'd probably get away with it. But who stops printing fake money, after only a few bills?

I'm sure any bank is going to report this; and, though it may be assigned to a junior agent, the Feds will ultimately investigate. I don't imagine the penalty would be substantially less, based on the estimated total of the fake bills (though I suppose I could be wrong about that). Can you imagine doing years in Federal prison, for just a few hundred dollars worth of counterfeiting? More likely, though, the perpetrator made a schitload of 'em; which only makes it that much sooner it would be, before they are caught, based on your appraisal of their poor quality.

it was reportedly given in change from an "Arab" store known for shady practices. I would be completely unsurprised if they were the ones doing it. I am anal about the way money goes in the drawer, all the portraits face up, green circle seal facing out side of the drawer, I feel every bill individually. It would have passed unnoticed by many, if they don't pay attention to each bill

My thought exactly... the time and investment would have to come near to what you could earn doing honest work... altho' seeing the efforts of some thieves, that has long been true.

No , me neither, race was hardly a factor, anymore, at that time; now it is the driving force behing the communist revolution we find ourselves in.....

OOPS! forgot we were in Smartie's Bar... next round on me for penitence of stating the truth

If I remember correctly the most difficult task for a counterfeiter is the
paper used in the bill. Not necessarily the ink.The paper is the giveaway.
These money machines,I guess, are pretty good at spotting fakes.
Unlike the manifest task in the the political world.I mean,I got one task done.
I explained how Facebook was not what they offered as a business model.
I started a thread { over 2 years ago } explaining in detail. That it was used to great
effect { along with Google } in ensuring Obama won in 2012.That's precisely
what Facebook and Google did in 2020.

A savy counterfeiter takes small denominations of genuine currency, bleaches them and reprints them. Kills two birds with one stone, gone is the telltale "off" feel and a counterfeit detection pen says it's genuine, because after all, the STOCK it's printed on, is in fact genuine, just altered.

If the reprinting is quality, only the holograms and internal strip (or lack thereof) and the placement of them. reveals the truth.

Familiar with those internal strips you can see in the light? Their placement on each bill is also in different locations....20 for example, looking at Jackson, it's to his left, pretty close to the left edge of the bill. On a 5 it's right of center....etc

I'm not gonna lie. I like the bottom one the most. I don't even think that it's the best one. On my phone, the first two look better. I just like the scene.

The second picture is my pick. I like the way you painted the water. The last one is very nice too.. My pick was a toss up between the two pictures, the second one won out.

The second one Flatford mill weir. The waterfall was almost black under the bridge and the brickwork and roof were very similar colours. Plus lots of accurate detail for those who know the building.

Yes. I go every year. Its a residential course, this year our tutor pulled out so we just painted as a group, which meant I got more paintings complete but didn't get any demonstrations, new techniques or lectures.
    Have you been to Flatford?
I'm hopefully back next March, I'll give you a shout

    Beautiful countryside.

Indeed, you were just up the road.
Flatford makes a nice day out as you can walk along the river Stour and there's a cafe. Plus the Mill and Willy Lotts home are pretty and interesting.
