Lying to the FBI seems to be one of those crimes that you only get charged with if you are in the outs with the authorities, so I'm surprised. I'll be curious to see how far this goes.

The appropriate punishment needs to be handed out to all that were involved, i.e. the network, to send a clear message that this will not be tolerated. Sad for the girls.

I've never heard of a single one, not female circumcision..

 

It's all done illegally so you're unlikely to hear about it. Just one case is one too many. And the probability is that some from those African countries quoted in my earlier post living in the US would have brought their traditions with them

 

I have heard of many (relatively) incidences of muslims practicing FGM in the USA.

Never heard of one incident of a Christian practicing such in the USA.

Going to disagree there. Islam has spread the practice from its likely origins in Africa across parts of the Islamic world in a way that is dramatically less common for Christian & Jewish practitioners. While it is not a consistent part of Islamic teaching, it is most definitely promoted by Islamic clerics in different parts of the world.

Religions want us to believe are what they say they are - the best versions of themselves. I find it odd how easily people are prepared to accept this in a way they never would if it was a government or huge company. Religions are what they do. All of it. Good and bad. The Catholic Church is not defined by the Crusades, the Inquisition & mass child abuse, but they are as much a part of it as the morality it teaches & the good works performed in its name. Islam is not defined by suicide bombers, sex slavery and FGM, but they are as much a part of it as the morality it teaches & the good works performed in its name.

That said, Christians don't get to play the 'its culture not religion card' for their faith and then dump on Islam for this. Islam is worse, but Christianity is still unacceptable. However, as you have already seen, Christians are great at assiging responsibility and poor at taking it. Religions are good at that too.

I'd say it's slightly more evident that certain religions are a bit more radical and dangerous than others. Circumcision is hardly on the same level of destructiveness as FGM.. FGM's entire concept is to take the pleasure out of sex and keep the female submissive and a baby making factory. Trump rightfully took issue with Islam as it's apparent that a dangerous percentage of people with Islamic beliefs and values have radical values.

That's just the reality of the situation. BUT. Hey! Let em all in right? They vote democrat, typically. What's the worse that could happen?

 

Please don't allow @FreshAir to derail the thread onto male circumcision's. That's a totally different topic, but every time FGM comes up in this forum, that poster is there to try to derail it.

 

Perhaps you could explain why an anti-FGM campaigner, would lie having FGM forced on her especially as she created an online campaign following the collapse of the trial in 2019 involving the same Muslim doctor as in this OP?

 

I do not support the genital mutilation of male or female children.... to me they are the same, not sure why anyone would support them
