Well, in all fairness, you guys likely wouldn't have pulled out of the deal if you didn't have a good Plan B in the US (and UK) available.. Doesn't make us the bad guy, but being the world's arsenal doesn't always make us popular either.

And the US always delivers ON TIME (unless Louis DeJoy is running the deal, in which case your subs may or may not show up at all)

Congrats on your purchases.... make sure you register your subs online to maintain the warranty.

France feels slighted they were not included. I am sure these things can be worked out.

But it is sort of touching how the Trumpers suddenly care about France and Muslims.

Indeed. Not exactly suddenly, but I have a feeling they're the same people.

France, the Greatest Empire in the History of Histories in all Universes, including Parallel and Multi-Dimensional Universes (which may or may not exist), still hasn't gotten over itself.

Seriously? Nobody gives a damn what the Frogs say. Let them eat cake.

Once their view was held in esteem:

"HOW IT STARTED": America is back with Biden, France’s Macron says.

    —Reuters, June 12.

""How it’s going: “Furious.” France withdraws their American ambassadors.

"The fallout from the sudden announcement this week of a secret deal between the United States and Great Britain to help Australia acquire nuclear submarines is not calming down yet."
    —Jazz Shaw, Hot Air, today.

"Related: How bad is it? So bad that even Jake Tapper is calling out his boss": Jake Tapper notes that it doesn’t seem like Biden’s living up to his promise to restore alliances.

Maybe France and the EU can't be trusted to support our efforts regarding China?

Ian Lesser, vice-president of policy think tank The German Marshall Fund of the United States
suggests the European Union is pretty clear in terms of what it does not want, which goes to a third issue.
The EU does not want to be caught in the middle as things escalate: to have to choose, as he puts it, "between the United States and China in an increasingly fraught environment".

With the EU drawing closer to Russia due to the pipeline that is being built and Russia's ties to China we can see why the EU is concerned with the US and UK's plan to build nuclear subs to defend against China's push into the China Sea.

It is putting Australia first as well. The EU in general does not like the idea of Australia getting nuclear subs because they know it is upsetting China. China wasn't complaining when France was going to deliver conventional subs because they are easier to track and can submerge for a much shorter time. China is upset because they no longer will have the advantage in the China Sea.

In this decision to supply Australia with nuclear subs I agree with 100%. The EU's ties to Russia due to the pipeline being built and Russia's ties to China the EU can no longer be trusted to support our polices in the China Sea.

That the Aussies signed a contract puts a different spin on it for me....but then nations are rarely subject to the legal niceties individuals are. And I don't doubt the French ARE highly miffed, if they run like us they've ALREADY spent the money they're not getting, LOL!

The French are going to get something along the lines of $300 million US compensation. I believe the real issue is that they genuinely feel shut out.

The thing is, China is so far away from Europe. None of China's military manoeuvres even come close to affecting it. So what's in it for the EU to care?

Which means the EU has no dog in the fight making them unreliable allies. The EU is also trying to increase their economic ties in the region at the expense of other nations who are threatened by China's aggressive military actions in the China Sea. The EU announced a new strategy in the hopes of reassuring China the EU will not contest China's actions in the area in the hopes of maintaining strong economic ties to China and the Indo-Pacific region.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/worl...trategy-tries-to-allay-china-fears/ar-AAOvTh9

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union on Thursday unveiled a new strategy for boosting economic, political and defense ties in the Indo-Pacific, just hours after the United States, Britain and Australia announced a new security alliance likely to reshape their relations with the vast region.

Thing is France does not have a huge interest in the pacific - apart from French Polynesia and a radioactive atoll

I've since learned the French have not lived up to the contract and the cost to Australia was rising considerably.

France being a major player in the EU most certainly does have a large interest in that area. France will stand with the EU of the EU chooses not to support US policies in the pacific.

Don’t think it is all about Military might

I said earlier some of this at least is illegal fishing - which our Navy is used to dealing with

They are strip mining the oceans and there are a lot of countries bordering the pacific that rely on that resource.

They certainly did mostly because they wanted to stick it to their arch enemy of the time being England. Times and interests have changed since then. Yesterdays allies can quickly become todays enemies when it comes to economic survival and the EU needs the trade from China.
