Frankly, this was a surprise to me, but a good surprise!

Senate parliamentarian rules against immigration measure in budget bill

The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that Democrats’ bid to legalize millions of undocumented immigrants through a $3.5 trillion budget package — which would have allowed them to leverage their slim majority to overcome Republican opposition — is “not appropriate” for that type of measure.

Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, a nonpartisan arbiter of the Senate’s rules, advised against including immigration in the budget bill more than a week after she heard arguments from Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

Her decision is a blow to Democrats’ plans to create a path to legal residency, and then U.S. citizenship, for as many as 8 million of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, including many who have lived here for years.

The Democrats have been making arguments to the Senate parliamentarian on this for several weeks and I think they are as surprised by this decision as I am. I mean, the argument never made sense as part of reconciliation, but when the entire establishment is lined up in favor of something, it's hard to say no. Of course, not everyone is giving up.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who had called on the Senate to fire the parliamentarian after the minimum-wage decision, on Sunday tweeted that the White House “can and should ignore” her advice. “We can’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to do the right thing,” she tweeted.

Cocaine Mitch has already shown them that if they grow the grass, he will fire up the lawn mower and he is one election or an itchy foot from resuming the majority.

    Democrats panic.
McConnell knows the rules of escalation, when they take a step, you don't just tie it, you take the next step. That way these clowns know when they take the next step to mash the faces of the GOP, they know that the next step will be the GOP mashing their face.

And this, combined with the frequent shifts in power is producing exactly what it is reason to expect it to produce, moderation, as the sensible folks begin to notice that punch they throw keeps getting returned, but harder. That is finally starting to result in greater reflection before folks throw the initial punch. McConnell is getting them trained.

Democrats tie government funding to debt bill, GOP digs in.
"Old and busted: Republicans pounce and seize."
"The new hotness? Republicans dig in!"

    Give 'em Hell Mitch!

And now for the "Build Back Better" bill...

91 House Dems call on Senate to expand immigration protections in Biden spending bill

Nearly half of all House Democrats on Monday called on their Senate colleagues to augment the immigration protections in the House-passed Build Back Better (BBB) Act before the upper chamber votes on it.

In a letter led by Democratic Reps. Jesús García (Ill.), Lou Correa (Calif.), Adriano Espaillat (N.Y.), Grace Meng (N.Y.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), the members urged Senate leaders to reinstate a pathway to citizenship in the Senate version of President Biden's signature social spending and climate bill.

"The House version of the BBB Act limits relief for certain undocumented individuals to a five-year parole status, yet another form of temporary reprieve. We now write to urge you and the rest of our colleagues in the Senate to reinstate a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS [temporary protected status] holders, farm workers, and essential workers in the Senate’s version of the reconciliation bill," wrote the lawmakers.

Ultimately, the House-passed version included a parole option, which would grant 6.5 million foreign nationals a temporary parole status that would grant them five-year work and travel permits but not permanent residency, the first path toward citizenship.

The Senate parliamentarian rebuffed two immigration plans that included permanent residency for millions — and has yet to review the House-passed parole plan.

Hopefully the Senate parliamentarian will put a stop to this nonsense, but this issue is SO IMPORTANT to the Democrats, that they won't stop trying.

The CBO ran the numbers for the Democrat's amnesty and oh boy...

Amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants in Democrats' reconciliation bill could fail in Senate

The Congressional Budget Office projects that more than 6.5 million illegal immigrants would receive legal status or a path to citizenship as a result of the legislation in its current form.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the Congressional Budget Office "estimates that 6.5 million aliens would receive parole ('amnesty lite,' if you will), making them eligible for various tax credits and welfare." In addition, "within this population, the CBO projects that 3 million aliens will obtain [lawful permanent resident] status (amnesty premium) and a path to U.S. citizenship by virtue of first obtaining parole."

Democrats are also seeking to drop the requirement that a child's Social Security number is needed for parents to collect the child tax credit of up to $3,600 per child. Currently, parents are required to disclose their dependents' Social Security number on their tax return in order to collect the credit.

Seeking to drop the Social Security number requirement? Of course they are!

The CIS estimates that eliminating the Social Security requirement could cost taxpayers more than $10 billion.

When it comes to illegals, these Democrats are absolutely tenacious! They will not give up on making these guys legal.

Democrats eye last-ditch effort to pass pathways to citizenship

Democrats are eyeing a way to overrule the Senate parliamentarian and provide pathways to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants — but it will depend on the caucus, including Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), sticking together.

Why it matters: Providing protections for undocumented immigrants has been a central focus for Congressional Democrats. Failing could cost some needed political points heading into what are expected to be brutal midterm elections.

    • Next steps are expected to be discussed in a special caucus lunch on Friday, according to a Senate aide.
    • Democrats will ultimately need 50 votes to include pathways to citizenship in the $1.75 trillion "human" infrastructure package.
    • Two earlier proposals including pathways to citizenship failed the Byrd rule, which requires provisions to be primarily budget-related to be passed through the reconciliation process.
What they're saying: Following a third rejection from the Senate rules referee on Thursday night, Senate Democratic leaders issued a statement, hinting at an attempt to go around the parliamentarian.

    • "[W]e will pursue every means to achieve a path to citizenship in the Build Back Better Act,” they said.

Young men, find a woman who loves you like the Democrats love illegal aliens.
