Two men face prison time for allegedly breaking COVID lockdown by smuggling buckets of KFC chicken and french fries

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/new-zealand-kfc-smuggling-covid

    HYPERLINK above has full story

    snip

Two men are facing prison time for allegedly smuggling buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken, coleslaw, and french fries into a city in New Zealand under coronavirus lockdown................

A photograph of the illicit fast food on a police car showed three buckets of chicken and ten cups of coleslaw.............................

The two men, aged 23 and 30, could face up to 6 months in prison or a fine of up to $4,000 for violating the Covid-19 Public Health Response Act.....................

86 people in Auckland have been charged with a total of 90 offenses related to the health order, according to 1News New Zealand. In one case, a man was arrested for crossing the border in order to buy McDonald's fast food

    end snip

this is what happens when the fear peddlers are aloud to run amok. If you try and get you some finger-lickin-goodness you can go to jail???

I do not care how some folks there try and label their politicians but this is what happens when leftists are given power. Maybe the police were upset that there were no tasty biscuits or mashed potatoes and gravy.

Should the restaurant also be charged and employees imprisoned for having sold the contraband chicken?

My goodness gracious, what is wrong with the people in NZ that they are not over-throwing the idiots in govt?

One could ask the question, what is wrong with people that they can't follow the rules. Sounds like you should stay in the US, where people are allowed to be totally inconsiderate of one another. Those "idiots" have saved a lot of lives. I guess it all falls on what is most important to you.
Wonder how that may change if you're lying on your death bed with covid. Click here---- https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53892856

I hope theres some rules that you wouldn't follow... otherwise you're no different from a programmable robot.

In America we are supposed to be subject to laws, not rules. We even have laws that restrict making other laws. Rules matter on private property. In public, we have rights.

Granted, fried chicken is probably not the hill on which I would make my stand for liberty, but we each have our own battles to fight I guess.

Funny, I teach robotic programming. It isn't easy to decide sometimes, what is "right" and "wrong". Sometimes there isn't a good answer, just a best answer.
I agree that we don't need to be programmed, but at the same time, we do need to do what is right. In New Zealand, they have extremely low infection and death rates compared to the US. Liberty usually has a price. Most people in the US who complain about the covid restrictions change their tune when someone close to the dies from it.
I do like KFC (original recipe). But it wasn't about chicken, or food, but the need to get out of the house and do something normal again. We each have our calls to make, all day long, every day. Left late for work, should I speed or cut through the red light? Someone could die because of my choice.

If I choose not to follow a law then I have to be prepared for the consequences if I break them.

Every time in the US we see one of the democratic leaders engaging in behavior they themselves outlawed, we ask ourselves the same questions. Jail time for a KFC dinner. New Zealand has lost it's collective minds...

Since when is buying fast food against the law? Covid 19 fear mongering is why they are in trouble.

We are told to stay inside but nobody enforces it or goes around asking who has covid 19.

We can still get a bucket of chicken without being arrested.

what sentence do you think should be handed down to these scofflaws? Please keep in mind that they are accused of the high crime of chicken smuggling. Yes, they also had cole slaw which probably carries an additional penalty

IMO, the people need to toss out these tyrannical leftists and elect some sane politicians; if there is such a thing there.

The bigger problem is the complacent folks who actually think arresting these guys is OK

COVID-21 is not on the list of communicable diseases.
By looking at the law it seems like permanent dictatorship is constitutional since e.g. Flu is a communicable disease.
What is a point of Democracy then if any president has a power to suspend Constitution?

I think it was one of 2 things

A: the cops didn't like cole slaw

B: the scofflaws didn't have any of the tasty mashed potatoes and gravy and that in itself is a crime to not buy some of that.........yum

Are you counting suicides, and business deaths, for examples, in NZ?
