Haven't had one since I was a kid but as I recall most people do gravy with them as the meat as there really isn't much there. Kind of like dove. A ton of work for very little meat so you have to have a lot of em.

In addition to the David sling or Shepherd sling I am very handy with a slingshot or as you Brits may call it a catapult I have taken several rabbits with a catapult and they go good with vegetables in a crock pot

Rabbit has made a bit of a comeback on gastro-pub menus over here.
Unfortunately it's usually big old farmed New Zealand White's from France rather than wild rabbits which are a pest species and need hunting. Chefs like the farmed ones because there's much more meat and customers prefer them because you don't have to pick out the shot.
I prefer to use wild and boil them up in stock then pull the meat off the bone when they are cooked to make rabbit pie

They are herbivores so it would almost be like keeping up with your vegetarian diet. Just a thought..

The two little squirrels are nowhere to be found this morning. I am hoping Mama found them and not some predator.

Oh I have had a day...weird disgusting day. A drunk legless woman in an electric wheel chair decided to go free wheeling through my property, spreading crap she used to wipe her butt everywhere and then decided when her scooter gave out to lay there and scream until someone called 911 to come get her. 911, knowing who she was, took their own sweet time getting here and still left her poopy wheelchair sitting on my property.

[IMG]I was lucky to get this picture. The turtles usually dive off when they know someone is near.

That sounds like a "Candid Camera" episode.

(It might be too old for Google to know what it was.)

Well it pretty much sucked up my whole day between her and then neighbors wanting to know what was going on that the police and the ambulance were here and then when they came back there was that. In between I blocked off the driveway that got her into my field to begin with. My poor just moved in next door neighbors are probably having buyers remorse right now LOL. I own the land to the rear of their lot and it was behind there house this craziness was going down.

Turned my moccasin loose today. Have to move from where I am. Plus i'm in Florida, it's a misdemeanor to have a venomous snake with no permit. Caught him as a juvenile in February. He was over 2 ft long, shed 4 times......Turned him loose in a preserve of 8 thousand acres. One must travel a dirt road of 6 miles off the main highway to get to Prairie Creek. Very few people go there....Turns out my new roomates are picky, not everyone wants to live with a moccasin....Me and my lady friend made a date of it and spent most of the day there. Gonna miss my boy. Chances are he will never see another human there....It sucked but I bet the snake is happy. I know turning a captive snake loose is frowned upon but I had no other choice, he could not come with. One of my new roomates is my landlord, said he would be fine with it but has grandkids that visit occasionally......He's in the boonies now.

I trust a venomous snake more than most people, at least you know what it is, it's nature and how to avoid it....more than you can say for many fake ass people. Gonna miss you fat boy. Fare thee well my scaled friend. @Well Bonded may be familiar with Prairie Creek preserve

Well, I was going to relocate him from where I captured as human conflict was a high potential there but I decided to keep him. I first had a "pet" water moccasin as a boy at 14 years old (I'll be 41 soon).

As a boy, I kept all manner of reptiles, but not for many years since.

This snake was likely less than 3 months old when I found him.

He's in a very remote location now, prime habitat.

It sucks but I had no other options.

I should add, he is a native snake. I'd kill an exotic before releasing, if that was my only option.

Agkistrodon Conanti to be specific...AKA "cottonmouth" or "water moccasin".....very close cousin to a copperhead but a copperhead is "mildly" venomous by comparison.

A bite from a moccasin is a definite trip to the ER and a recovery of several months. Amputation of the limb or death, in the worst case.

More distant relatives are rattlesnakes, all are pit vipers.

I trust a viper more than many humans, humans are far more unpredictably dangerous.
