There is a reason that the basic recipe for gray squirrel (fox or red squirrel taste worse) is to simmer it in Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup for a few hours - and it isn't because squirrel taste so good that the flavor needs to be tempered by the soup...

But it is survival protein - same as a rat is.

A local bar oiut where I used to live in PA, would have 'beast feast' once a year where hunters would clean out their freezers at the start of a new hunting season. Since it wasn't FDA approved, it was a freebie buffet. Moose, bear, rattlesnake, squirrel and a few things better left unknown, I'm sure. Don't recall much about the squirrel other than chewy.

Yes i do. I'm actually worried about my little buddies transistion from captivity.

Good news is, he's a native and Cottonmouths are voracious eaters taking a variety of prey, to include turtles and small gators....basically anything they can swallow. Even known to scavenge roadkill.

Earth worms are in invasive non-native species in America. We should also be frying them.

Are you referring to the 'hammerhead' worms? Standard earthworms may not be 'native', but they are likely more 'native' then you or me. They are also beneficial to the soil, which is more than I can say for the average human.

More pictures of my boy right before I released him yesterday or the day before, the days sort of blend together at this point especially when you work nights.... IMG_20211004_081004.jpg IMG_20211004_080959.jpg IMG_20211004_080951.jpg

Was told third hand that one of my cousins is in hospital on vent with covid and probably won't survive. Not sure if I believe it or not TBH. That branch on the family tree is so overly dramatic that a couple stitches becomes "I almost bled to death and had to have emergency surgery." I don't really have any dealings with them or even know them very well other than interacting with them while at other relatives' houses and events, but that would be the first KIA in my gene pool if true.

Probably should clean just in case. I will have out of towners wanting free lodging if it ends up going that way. I hate guests. They require dusting and I like the macabre of dusty spider webs in my corners.

Well, to be on the safe side, let's hope for a full recovery.

Well thanks. I guess that is just basic human decency to do I guess. This particular cousin was an adult with children of their own before I was born so there was never any commonality other than we interact with many of the same relatives. If it is true, I hope they recover, but as my youngest sister responded when I asked her if she got the text about it that I got, "Yeah, well if they catch a cold, it is a rare disease that nobody else has ever survived but they somehow manage to, so..."

Get tested and if you test positive go immediately and get treatment. Early treatment is the key and be aware of the people around you.

We have neighbor snake, we named him Jake I found him one day inspecting the Chewy package. He is a very nice sized snake almost six feet long as near as I can guesstimate. Beautiful snake.
The best thing is to give snakes the room to leave.

I was recruited by Electric Boat straight out of the Air Force ... flew me out for 2 weeks, put me up in a hotel in New London, free shuttle, per diem, had a few orientation meetings at the hotel, a quick trip to the boat yard and then announced delays in the program ... they gave me $4000 and a ticket home ...

Everyone has a right to his/her opinion. No offense taken.
The gray squirrels we have here are aggravating they raid the bird feeders.

I wish we had gray squirrels - they are a bit less gamey tasting and have a bit more meat on them. :D

The fox squirrels know better than to come near my bird feeders - I actually have them trained to avoid my place!
