Biden received a mandate that he must follow

It doesn't need to be widely popular in their states. It only needs to be popular among Democrats in those states.

Really? Is that your standard reply when you've got nothing?

Donald Trump does have the unfailing support of "Republican leadership" - check
They Know he lost the election, they can't be that deep in politics not to realize the "Big Lie" is a lie - check
State legislatures are giving themselves partisan power over elections
    [IMG]

    https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/doz...elections-partisan-entities/story?id=79408455

What other explanation do you have for States giving themselves power to ignore their voters wishes and swing elections the way they want?

Why else would the Republican Leadership go along with tRump's LIE? Clearly their demographic is fading, if they don't cease power NOW and put in place a way to keep it in perpetuity they will lose it forever and their party will be no more. They faced a choice The end of Constitutional America or the end of themselves; it's looking like they've chosen themselves.

I realize it takes some extrapolation of facts to come to that deduction, but as Conan Doyle said; when you eliminate all other possibilities, what you have left is the solution.

I think your reply at the least was a disingenuous partisan hip-shot.

No! It's simply because over 50% of voters voted for him. That fact alone is what gives him power. The President ASSUMES that they voted based on his policies. That is NEVER strictly true. It can never be. But it's a weapon he has and can use. Any Democrat in Congress who manages to undermine the President's agenda (the main issues they ran on), is going to have a very tough time avoiding a primary opponent. And more so if it's a mandate.

The main point in this thread is not that he has a mandate. The mandate is a fact. But the point is that he has to fulfill his agenda, and he has not excuses. The "mandate" is one of the weapons in his arsenal. Obama received a mandate to institute Obamacare. That doesn't mean that over 50% of voters wanted Obamacare, as the 2010 midterms demonstrated. It meant that he got enough votes to have that weapon available. It wasn't BECAUSE he got a mandate that he needed to pass Obamacare. It was because it was his main campaign commitment (that, and getting us out of Iraq) AND he had a mandate to use to accomplish it.

Egads. 2021 isn't on the chart because 2021 isn't finished.

Try a thoughtful approach to the situation instead of spouting propaganda.

"The U.S. Border Patrol made nearly 180,000 arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border last month, the highest figure in decades, per data released Friday, but total migration levels haven’t necessarily increased, partly because repeat border crossings surged during the pandemic.

Border Patrol agents caught 178,416 people trying to cross the southern border without authorization in June, up 3% from May, marking the busiest single month since 2000.

Most people encountered crossing the U.S.-Mexico border last month were single adults (113,383 arrests), but the rise in arrests was mostly driven by an increase in apprehensions of unaccompanied minors (15,018) and families (50,015), even though the number of adult arrests dropped more than 3%.

Despite a massive surge in arrests this year, it’s unclear whether the overall number of migrants shot up: U.S. Customs and Border Protection says 454,944 unique individuals were encountered on the border so far this fiscal year, a decrease of 7% from the same period in 2019.

The arrest data includes a massive number of repeat border-crossers, a trend CBP tied to a controversial 16-month-old policy of expelling most single adults from the United States within hours of getting arrested (34% of June arrestees were caught at least one other time in the last year, more than double the recidivism rate from 2014 to 2019).

Border Patrol also catches more migrants nowadays than during the early 2000s: The agency estimates it apprehended 69.6% of border-crossers in 2018, compared to just 42.5% in 2000, though officials say the “got-away” rate has crept up in the last year."

    You're spreading misinformation.

"In addition, COVID-19 vaccination might offer better protection than getting sick with COVID-19. A recent study showed that unvaccinated people who already had COVID-19 are more than twice as likely as fully vaccinated people to get reinfected with COVID-19."

So, you don't understand what causes inflation. Like you, a lot of people don't know, but most of them aren't making statements about what they know not.
Trump allowed the Taliban to solidify their position and wait for us to leave. You just endorsed my point about Trump's slow-motion surrender.
You're spouting propaganda. The Mayo Clinic...

State legislatures have always had power over elections. That's in the Constitution and both parties have abused that power.
The rest of your post doesn't matter.

I have only seen that in the Republican Party. Democrats expect the leaders they elect to fulfill their main campaign promises.

Carter promised Democrats that by balancing the budget, and other conservative policies he would achieve "full employment" and reduce inflation. He failed. And he lost badly against a very bad (at the time) Republican candidate. Clinton ran on improving the economy ("It's the economy, stupid!"), and he did. Obama's main campaign promises were Obamacare, getting out of Iraq, and getting us out of the Depression... He did. Bush ran on tax cuts for the rich, cutting drug prices and fixing Social Security (the "compassionate conservative"). He only fulfilled the first one, but nobody expected otherwise. Nor did anybody in their right mind expected Trump to send Hillary to jail, build a wall that Mexico would pay for, or deport all illegal aliens.

Biden does have the power to fulfill his agenda with half Congress. But he needs to show real leadership. If he doesn't achieve them, his Presidency will have been a failure. Worst case scenario, the only thing he needs Congress for is to approve his $3.5 trillion package (I'm guessing it will end up being less, but enough to fulfill his core agenda). The rest he has the power to accomplish on his own. It will require more leadership skills to do the rest without help from Congress... but it's doable.

I am willing to give him until his last day in the Presidency to achieve them. But achieve them he must!

I know the Constitution, State Legislatures have never given themselves the power to ignore the votes of the people in their state, before. Actually it does matter, I drew the conclusion that a second tRump presidency would be the end of our Constitutional United States before January 6th. More and more is coming out daily about his varied attempts to keep power. As it does it's clear that few had any idea about the lengths he tried to go to or was willing to go to, to subvert OUR Constitution and take over OUR Republic.

I don't think he has the numbers to do it. All it takes is the defection of 5 democratic house members and one democratic senator. When the Democrats pass massive changes, big legislation, they always have had a huge advantage in the numbers. The ACA for example, the Democrats had a 256-178 advantage in the house which 34 democrats could vote nay and the ACA still pass. The same in the senate, a 60-40 advantage when the ACA was passed prior to Brown taking his seat which cut their advantage down to 59-41.

The Democrats may control both chambers of congress, but I don't think they have the numbers for a massive bill to pass. Time could prove me wrong, but not so far.

Did you ever notice that the only way you can continue to argue a point is by cutting out everything but a small part and then repeating yourself? Do you think that repeating the same thing over and over makes it true? Because it doesn't. No matter how much you may wish otherwise.

    Apologies. You asserted that,

“On November 3, over half of all American people gave Biden a mandate.”

As I previously pointed out, Biden did not receive over half the votes of *all* Americans. Do you still want to argue this point?

Those that are vaccinated are just as likely to get infected as those that are unvaccinated. The difference is in the severity. That is all.

    No, it wasn't.

    upload_2021-10-11_9-27-41.jpeg
There was widespread fraud and a lot of innocent people were hurt, from investors and pension funds to everyday homeowners who weren't flipping property or taking NINJA loans with cash upfront.

    upload_2021-10-11_9-25-55.gif

Me? I made a killing without having to short the market by going to cash in 2008 and jumping back in in 2009. Millions of hardworking folks got screwed.

Those may be your reasons for electing Biden. But I don't believe that the votes which gave him the election were based on any particular reason other than that the mainstream media told the people to vote for Biden. With ballots mailed to every nook and cranny, Democrats essentially filled their trawler with every crud fish in the sea. I also believe that Trumps voters are far more informed. With both Houses essentially split between both parties, your idea that there is any kind of mandate is just your own bias shining thru.

It's not too complicated, really. I'm demonstrating that I'm not partisan by disclosing in advance that I would consider it a failure if Biden fails so if he does accomplish them by the end of his term and I praise him for it, people will know it's not out of partisanship.

BTW they are not all partisan. Only extremists on the right would oppose preserving our Democracy or not mitigating the effects of AGW, or protecting civil rights, or bringing criminals to justice... They are a very loud minority.... but they are minority. I don't think, even today, they are even half of Republicans, despite the GOP having been taken over (temporarily, we hope) by the Trump right extremists.

I did just fine by ignoring the whole thing. Greedy people are the easiest to cheat. I was never over extended so I was never vulnerable.

Obviously. But I'm pretty sure, given tRumps history and revelations of the machinations he went to, to retain power, it's obvious that tRump is a Clear And Present Danger to the Republic.

The first item on the list is a big one. There is no excuse for government interference in ones right to bodily autonomy. Uh, unless the government is forcing you to consume a pharm product or deny second amendment rights to protect your body from a rapist/murderer!

So, no your defending your "non-partisanship" by claiming only far-righties would consider your list as partisan? And support it with a litany of classic LW urban legends? This is hilarious, I can't what for your next tap dance.

Of course! But that's the mandate he received. It's what he campaigned on. A President is elected to fulfill an Agenda. And if he receives more than half the votes he also received the additional power of a "mandate".

His only mandate was that he was not Trump.
