I ran a business with 100 employees before I walked away with enough money I never had to work another day. My wife was a teacher and I decided to give teaching a shot. Within five years of starting teaching, I organized the teachers' union to get rid of a rightwing extremist school board (Trump-like jerks before Trump) with principled conservatives. I taught computer science and business startups to high school students and adults. Now, what "type" is that?

Why misrepresent what goes on in schools? Are you trying to drive away good teachers? Why would a STEM graduate want to teach school, sacrificing the money they can make in business, only to be badmouthed by teacher bashers?
Still enough energy to attend a Trump rally?

That was an attempt at a sarcastic humorous compliment.
The dedicated dependable type, which is a big complement in my view.

I was in a good mood and threw out some sarcastic humour, directed at some of the earlier posts.
No Trump rallies in my future.......

Maybe they can be recruited to replace all the cops who are quitting? Much like teaching except you have a nightstick?

The curriculum is what people are finding objectionable and teachers aren't responsible for that. The protests at school boards are more on target.

I was a high school teacher for one year between college and being drafted into the Army. Why did you want to know that?

I would say build a public school system that's more about focusing on making sure students get educated.

You don't seem to fully appreciate the problems with public education. BTW, I'm all for vouchers if they're for enough money that poor families can get a good private education for their kids without having to top up vouchers with money they don't have.

Schools aren't nearly as good as they should be for a lot of reasons.

The major reason is lack of accountability. It is the same problem with all of government from top to bottom.

Tuition fees for high end colleges in Germany, France and UK are dirt cheap, and totally in reach for anybody who does a good job in high school. Factor that one it.

To give you a hint how things go down.
The US took 8 nobel prices in 2021,.. only 2 of them were actually born in the US.
The others 6 were paid to come over, and they changed their nationality for occupational reasons.

Lots of CEO's of massive American companies are also led by foreigners.
    Microsoft, Google, McDonalds, Coca Cola....
Almost half of the fortune 500 companies were made by foreigners.
    It's a theme.

A major reason. There are plenty of others.

It is THE major reason. The other reasons pale in comparison.

How many university STEM grads are going to take two years of teacher training and then take a job for this salary...?
    upload_2021-10-18_7-56-4.jpeg

I won't even bother with the negative reaction they would have to unprincipled attacks on teachers that include white students supposedly being told they should be ashamed of being white.

Not really. Canada has the same government-run school model, but gets better results because they pay teachers better.

People find objectionable what isn't being taught.

What was so bad about the Trump like Board? Why did you find it necessary to get rid of them?
Our kids come home and tell us what they are learning.

AHH, so your opinion was the correct one? A leftist pushes their agenda to a school board

That is the issue. Y'all don't even realize the Democrat conditioning that you received and still receive. it is quite sad

No one would expect you to understand. Mostly because your understanding is so much "deeper" than everyone else. Not sure how you make it through each day surrounded by those lesser than you.
To your point, extremism in any form is to be shunned, not for an ideology, but out of necessity. Extremist views are important in the forming of ideas, but should be avoided when it comes to implementation.
At least that's the way I see it.
    Don't be sad! Be glad!

What do you mean by "no accountability"?
There is a LOTS of accountability, in fact, sometimes too much, as in having to be accountable for the grade little Johnny got. Not just account for the grades and work, but why didn't he pass enough tests? If he didn't apply himself, then what did you do to get him to apply himself. If he fell asleep in class, what did you do to make sure that won't happen. If he skips class, what did you do to make sure he comes to class. And so on.
I get that they want to make sure teachers are doing their job, but sometimes it feels as if the teacher is responsible for the actions of the students.
Completely different teaching college courses. The students are older, more mature and more motivated. And the instructor doesn't feel as scrutinized.
How about a little accountability for the student and parents?

They were attacking teachers with public statements that were outright lies, just like the maggots claiming teachers are telling white kids they should be ashamed of being white. They summonsed two teachers to a board meeting during their vacation (doing so is not within their legal authority), and then fired them for not terminating travel outside the country and appearing before the Board (also not within their authority). A board member sold defective photocopiers to the district at inflated prices. The tried to force teachers to teach something other than the curriculum. I could go on for pages.

Principled conservatives don't act like that. (They don't act like Trump, either.)
This stuff is wayyyy over your head.
