No, St. Peter likely doesn't care, but I'm sure Powell felt better (just in case)... you don't want to spend eternity being labelled a Republican if you can fix it at the end...

I figure he was absolved of his sins before he died, but it's always best to solve things yourself...

The OP statement does not clarify it. That's on purpose. You're supposed to be left with the bitter aftertaste of yet another republican who died because of vaccine hesitancy. That is clearly the implication of the CNN piece. CNN does this routinely now. It's as if they believe they can spread this misinformation with impunity. Certainly you seem to be one of their cheerleaders for their abuse.

Interesting that was in the 2nd paragraph of the OP you clearly didn't read...

No, it wasn't on purpose... I only grabbed the first paragraph in order to get my thread posted first, which I was still unable to achieve by 1 minute..

Here ya go.... got your sunglasses on??

POWELL HAD RECEIVED THE REQUIRED SHOTS TO BE CONSIDERED FULLY VACCINATED!!!!

FFS, get off you shaky podium for 30 seconds... it's NOT that big a deal....

The story looks to have been edited in the intervening hours. Also something CNN has had to do a lot of. Lots of folks have been commenting on the non citation all morning. Guess CNN got skewered and has now had to go back and reedit.

Another breakthrough covid death, sadly. Too bad we don't have an effective vaccine yet but I'm sure Biden and his team are doing their best.

COVID Vacc is like the Flu Shot. Maybe works. Maybe doesn't. I will not tke flu shot as I can't seem to contract that darn virus. Had the flu too many times back in the olden days and I figure I have strong immunity.

Don't regret taking Covid shot. I think it helps.

From the original publish time on the story, that wasn't included. Lots of folks have commented on this all morning. Late to the party, CNN tries to cover itself because of the glaring omission.

If CNN had been honest, that would have been their lead in the story. Breakthrough COVID takes American Hero..... But that doesn't fit with their otherwise smarmy approach to journalism these days.

Because it's a story about a famous man's death, not his vaccination status..

umm.... CNN literally says Colin dies of COVID. The fact that the vaccination didn't save him seems pretty germane to the conversation. The fact that he died while hospitalized seems important. Whatever happened to flatten the curve again?

I have more protection than you. I have antibodies, T Cells, B cells, and I have zero need to take the vaccine after a discussion with my doctor last week.

My mom, just recovered from CV-19. She was pretty sick for 2 weeks. She was fully vaccinated. She does believe the vaccine saved her from dying from it.... and maybe she is right.

Good luck with your vaccine after 6 months. Those of us with it already are doing far better and the numbers aren't even close.

If we examine the charts from the heavily vaccinated nations, it appears the vaccines do well for about 6 months.

Only to counter the many times your people also turn everything into some cheap political football. The left cheered the unvacced dying, so now the right will cheer the vacced dying.

I was trying to determine which word in that headline you'd have the biggest issue with? Contradict, efficacy, or experts

I've decided it's the final one..

Powell was a patriot and a soldier who worked with and advised presidents from both parties. He only considered himself a member of the American tribe. Calling him a traitor is a disgusting unwarranted insult.

Yes, and unlike most of the fools that advised Bush, Colin Power knew better.

“Arriving at the State Department in 2001, Powell was no stranger to the political battlefield; if it seemed inevitable that he would clash with neocons at the Pentagon—men like Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle, who had never been in uniform but were often eager to deploy troops—it seemed equally inevitable that Powell would squash such adversaries under the broad thumb of his experience.

Oh, he would say, it's easy to talk about "ending states" when you've never been sent to end one, when you've never watched a man split apart in a rain of shrapnel. But for an old grunt who's been on the front lines, who tromped through the elephant grass in Vietnam, who took a punji stake through the foot and saw ears cut off as trophies, who had slept beneath the aching odor of a fifty-five-gallon oil drum stuffed with burning human feces, for a man like Colin Powell, the path of diplomacy had a battle-born allure that no draft-dodging neocon could possibly comprehend, and he meant for them to know it.”

So, a fierce opponent of our endless war policy caved and helped start another 20 year cycle or war and waste.

You seem better at not paying attention to the details.

That aside, this has been addressed and your complaint is invalid.

I doubt that the CIA was able to fool Powell, but if it did the CIA is way overdue for a colonoscopy.

“He was sent to do the job himself, to carry the administration's water before a skeptical United Nations, the man who had argued against the invasion now making the case for it. In what would become the lowest point of his career, an event that will taint his legacy forever, that will be written into his obituary one day, Colin Powell leaned forward in his chair at the General Assembly on February 5, 2003, with the world listening—and listening precisely because it was he, not some old hawk like Don Rumsfeld or some ideologue like Paul Wolfowitz but Colin Powell, a man whose word actually meant something—sitting there in front of those preposterous PowerPoint presentations and blurry satellite images, he raised his voice in outrage and said things that simply were not true: that Iraq had stockpiles of chemical weapons, that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat, that the Baath Party was linked to Al Qaeda, that these were "not assertions" but "facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence," and that the evidence of it all was clear when he knew that it probably wasn’t.”

When the CIA Director George Tenet says WMDs are a "slam dunk" it is tough not to believe him. I have not seen any evidence that either GWB or Colin intentionally misled the American people, they trusted the intelligence community which failed them.
