It's not the poking fun which is bratty, it's the indignation of the offended party. Something funny is funny, regardless of whether it's for or against us. It's how we respond to it that determines whether we're a brat.

I reckon you've got it pretty wrong there, Old Polychops.

The young ones call themselves socialists/communists, but they're flaming capitalists even still. It's all just LARPing and posturing with those flakes - attention seeking if you will. They adore their cushy capitalist democracy lifestyles as ardently as any hardcore Rightist.

Oh yeah definitely they're just pretending I wouldn't even say they're capitalists who just benefactors of capitalism.

I don't fault them typically young people are very naive of this sort of thing.

Yeah they're LARPing but they don't know anything.

A lot of Boomers never did grow out of their hippy phase, and you should know this - they're still trying to re-live the imaginary halcyon days of the 60s and 70s, and therein lies where they ****ed up. Even with the vast flailing edifice of the Soviet Union and socialism-communism staring them dead in the face they still clung to the "progressive" propaganda they lapped up in their naive and impressionable youth. Not only did they fail to get a clue after the fall of the Berlin Wall, they remained mired in the delusion that our nation, economy and government didn't need to change with the world that had changed. So, as we see today, they still cling to their socialist tendencies and continue to try (and succeed in some cases) to pass massive new multi-trillion dollar government programs as if we still lived in the 1960s when America was the world's sole economic superpower and it wasn't $28.8 trillion in debt and facing another $157.9 trillion in unfunded liabilities. The reckless idiocy we're seeing on the part of the Left and the Democrats today is how Boomers, et all, ruined what their parents handed to them, and I haven't even begun to address the human dimensions that are driving that self-destructive idiocy.

The agitation is incredible! I saw one fall to nervous giggling and sweaty palms recently, when trapped in a situation of full exposure to the air outside the bubble. That sudden dose of reality proved very challenging. Catatonia and rocking weren't far off :p

Every last one of these 'celebrity marxists' has been a rich white man, from the very top eschalons of the socio-economic strata. They're bored toffs, toying with the peasants for their own amusement.

That’s not what I’m talking about, Poly. I’m talking about what has happened to the New Left of the 1950s, 60s and 70s and grew into the Old Left of the 30’s and 40s that preceded it. Back then the New Left, which consisted largely of naive, idealistic and impressionable adolescents and young adults, embraced the Old socialist (and communist) Left’s program that was dedicated to helping the unfortunate people in our country through government social engineering, welfare and redistribution schemes (e.g., the “Great Society” and “War on Poverty” initiatives) while rejecting the Old Left’s authoritarian impulses that conflicted with the individual freedom that New Leftists once stood for. However, it didn’t take long before the inherent philosophical contradictions associated with those opposing tendencies started becoming irreconcilable for and between the New Leftists who were socialists and the New Leftists who were individualists. When these two groups split during the 1980s and the individualists realized that they were really classical liberals and libertarians - not Leftist “liberals” - the New Left died. All that was left of the New Left were the so-called “progressives” (LOL!) who were no different than the Old Left that had aligned itself with the Soviets, et al, during the Cold War.

    Progressive Party, USA 1948
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_Party_(United_States,_1948)

Not surprisingly, it was these New Leftists who supported the Old Left socialist-communist movements throughout the world during the latter decades of the Cold War and they continue to support them to this day in places like Venezuela and Cuba.

Equally unsurprising, during the late 1960s Henry Wallace & Co.’s “progressive” progeny forced their way back into the Democratic Party and began their Long March to where we find them and the political party they have overrun today. In the process, as an acorn inevitably becomes an oak - not a maple or a pine - the socialist remnants of the New Left grew into the Old Left from whence it came: totalitarian, authoritarian and anti-individualistic.

Up until recently, these socialist-communist bitter enders had to conceal themselves and their agenda as “progressive”, but as you pointed out they have become emboldened to the point where they no longer feel compelled to hide who and what they really are.

As for the youngsters you mentioned, they are the brainwashed children - literally and figuratively - of these socialists (and communists). There’s nothing new, unique or “revolutionary” about them.

Which brings me to my last point - they are regressives. They are trying to turn back the clock on thousands of years of human evolution and progress in the struggle for individual freedom that our ancestors handed down to us with their blood, sweat and tears. There’s nothing progressive and liberal about them.

No he isn't. You do understand that we elect a new president every 4 years right? He may run we may get someone you like even less.

    It is a perpetual problem.

Charlatans, one and all, and most atrociously in Chomsky's case, an apologist for the genocidaires in the Khmer Rouge who massacred the peasants he pretends to defend by the millions.

fair enough I don't really consider the left of the seventies new that is now old. The new left are BLM and antifa.
well yes I get this too as time goes by you tend to put aside childish things.

The problem is nobody has focused on the future. We are having instances where terrorist organizations are destroying Federal buildings.

I tend to draw a bigger distinction between authoritarians and liberals. That's up and down versus right or left.

The difference we're seeing in young leftists today is they are authoritarian. In the 60s they were liberal. The Overton window has shifted upward.

I wouldn't consider liberals left. Liberals can be right leaning like me.

In fact the more the upper left is pushing the more the liberals are becoming right.

The right lending authoritarians are so incredibly rare and so incredibly mocked and laughed at as they don't really exist.
