The point sir is that he had to abdicate before Carter would let him in t
Wrong on all counts. Until Johnson the welfare state consisted almost entirely of the commodities program run by DOA in which cheese, peanut butter, and butter, collected under various price support programs since FDR was handed out to the poor and indigent.
Note from it's creation until LBJ, roughly 5% of the budget went to the welfare state..

This has been my view as well.

The highlighted portion makes perfect sense. Families looking for a second car used their government windfall. People still have three and four kids, and those families got big payouts. A few grand makes a nice down payment on a reliable used car.

The inflation is temporary, and although higher than expected, it was indeed expected.

Absolutely. The last thing you should do is be moved by political opinions from someone who doesn't take politics seriously.

You obviously haven't been the lumber department of any store.

When the government prints more money it devalues the dollar, which causes inflation.

That is true but I think the current price rise results from supply and demand rather than inflation. So I agree with him. I have no problem getting orders but buying merchandise is really difficult for me right now. I suspect that affects more businesses than mine.

The inflation is inevitable given what government is doing now and it will be worse than what you see at the lumber yard today. But it is a little while down the road.

Would it look different if the CIA had not implemented a coup against the Shah's predecessor and Khomeini remained a relatively unknown cleric in the absence of the Shah's dictatorship?

Most building lumber is domestic. The problem is supply and demand.

Lumber mills weren't deemed essential, but a lot of DIY got done with people sitting home with nothing else to do. Lots of demand diminnished supply equals high prices. The problem is in order to produce you need people. And as long the governments going to pay them more to sit home on their asses so until that stops they will.

The fact that you think less than $15/hr worth of UIB is causing people to stay home from work shows that you are completely aware of how shitty American hourly wages are, and have zero desire to do anything about it.

He wouldn't have. Mossadiq was a modernizer as was the Shah. Khomeini never supported Mossadiq either and Khomeini would have over thrown mossadiq more quickly than he did the shah or turned Iran into a Soviet Client state in the attempt.

    I'll have to disagree.

When the government prints money to distribute 'stimulus' checks, where does that money come from? Thin air. When there is nothing happening to create that money, something has to create a new 'level', spreading the value over the additional 'money'. That means each dollar will have less value.

Which is all great if you carry debt, but not so great for material goods.

And what tariffs would that be? The ones they talked about in May??

Supply and demand, inflation and shutdowns due to COVID.

Dude, control yourself, you paid according to the value of the job your doing. The value of that job is a function of the rarity of the skill set that is required to do it with your attitude and the demand for that job as a multiplier. You can be the best spat maker the world has ever seen with the best attitude ever and you'll still be out of work. But be a person who types 120 words a minute w/o error and has a working knowledge of computer systems along with the ability to remain unflappable even in the face of Melevolent screaming morons who forgot to get their pass word reset yesterday and IT companies will love you... Pay you decent money and let you work from home.

The after effect of COVID is supply chains are stretched thin. I visited my local bike shop the other day and all the bikes they have on the floor are extremely high end models. They can't get any mid-low range models to replace whats been sold. They can't even get parts. The same is true in the auto industry. Inventory is low driving prices higher. This issue will be remedied over time.

    Your thoughts now?

61.1% of us worked at the start of 2020, only 58.7% of us do now. It was 58% when you posted that. We are still short 8,000,000 workers which is why we have widespread shortages. At Biden's rate of job growth, will be 15 months recovering the workforce we need to return to the Trumpian glory days. The election's in 12 months, I'm not sure the American People are going to be satisfied with that.

    Trump was right.

My Mother and Stepfather loved Carter and loved those years.. not only are and were they yellow dog democrats (I don't talk about politics with my mother, have o just ignore the Hillary, Beto and Biden signs) BUT they were ALSO selling and financing the sales of property during those years.. they made a bundle off the po' mexicans just fresh from across the border (Mexico's property values and especially bank interest rates are really high too, so they didn't really know any better)
