Hello everbody! I have just entered the forum. I chose Lindis as my name, as I like the Island of Lindisfarne in the North Sea. Now I will look round the forum. See you later!
Welcome! Jump in to a debate. Don't worry about being chastized for your position or how you present it. Thats just how things work here. If you follow one simple philosophy, you'll be fine- 'Thats crazy' is an example of an attack against a post, and is allowed. 'You're crazy' is an attack against a poster, and is not allowed. It may not be much of a distinction in reality, but it has served me well here.
I got in trouble recently for "that's crazy"-type posts, actually. Either the mods cracking down more on such posts or they just don't like me. Either is a possibility, I suppose.
Hello and welcome! You mentioned in another of your Posts that you lived in the Black Forest. The last time I lived in Germany, I was in Freiburg i.Br. (circa 1974) and absolutely love the area. We would ride bicycles up and down Weinstrasse in Alsace Lorraine, ride south into the Swiss Alps and east to Munich. The whole time, my faithful Stahlross took me all over the place and never left me stranded. I lived in Munich before that and then walked and hitch-hiked around the Islamic Middle East for 10 - 11 months by myself when I got caught up in the '73 War. For the last 25 years, I've been a Blacksmith / Artist and have designed and made wrought iron gates, fireplace tools, table bases with steel grapevines, African animals, dragon heads and sculpture. I think you'll like it here and I look forward to reading about your experiences, opinions and ideas. Best wishes,
I don't think that the mods are cracking down but I don't know the specifics of your incident. I don't know for sure but I only think that the mods address comments that have been reported. After all, who could not like you?
Hello! Only now I have read your posting. As it happens - I have lived in Freiburg im Breisgau until 1975! So we might even have seen each other. And I am often in Alsace (im Elsass) - which is only about a quarter of an hour from my front door - by car. I have been there again today for lunch - just there and back again. I enjoy the normal everyday French food - with a touch of Alsace. Best wishes!
Hello and thanks for responding. Wass fur eine Zufall das wir in die selbe Stadt gleichzeitig gewöhnen haben. [What a coincidence that we lived in the same city at the same time.] One of the forum's rules is that we use only English in communicating. It's a shame because I never get a chance to speak German and therefor have forgotten a lot of it. I used to be fluent when I was attending classes at the Goethe Institute and Albert - Ludwig University. When I wasn't working odd jobs just to pay the bills, my friends and I would explore the general area on our bicycles. My time in Freiburg was one of the more pleasant times in my life but I'm sure that it's changed so much that now I wouldn't recognize it. I'm glad that you're enjoying all that the region has to offer and hope that you're also enjoying this forum. Many Thanks,
That is exactly where I was studying then! At the Albert-Ludwig-Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau. And in 1968/69 at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England. What a co-incidence!
Thank you for that clarification all these years that I have been here and I really did not fully know the difference in that!? Welcome to the forum... . politicalforum is my favourite place online. ....
Hello and welcome to the freest and most tolerant forum on the planet!!! Since everybody is bragging about also having been to places where you are at home, I would like to mention my "Eisenbahntrip" through Baden-Baden at Christmas 1980/81. Surely, you know this hilarious song... https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...3A92C54C0D5064636D663A92C54C0D506&FORM=WRVORC Wishing you lots of friends and enjoyment!
