That's exactly how it works. When did you last pay your freedom of speech fee?

That the constitution doesn't limit anything.

    Oh that's what you mean.

Then yeah you have the right to food if you buy it. That's called property rights.

If it limited govt then the interment camps would not have existed.

So there is no such thing as rights because bad things happened once?

I have to guess because you fail to explain.

america benefits from the labor and service of its poorest citizens. while not an enumerated right, food and the rest of maslow's basic physiological needs should be provided to every citizen.

maybe not as futuristic as it sounds. the way to avoid that distopia is to extend the 14th amendment to include geneticly modified and oartificial life forms. (disclaimer - there are probably several animals - chimps, dolphins, felines and such that should have constitutional rights as well. )

We have had over 250 years of people being low on food and starving. If there was a constitutional right to food it would have been decided long ago.

The only thing that keeps govt in check is the people that make up it.

Concerning dissemination of GMO seeds... contract law already covers that. If a farmer wants to plant a GMO crop, for instance, glyphosate resistant corn, he must buy the seed from the company that produced it. The purchase contract (which the farmer agrees to) details what the farmer can do with those seeds. No one is holding a gun to the farmers head and forcing him to agree to the contract - he agrees voluntarily not to disseminate the seed beyond what the contract allows. There are plenty of non-GMO crops that the farmer could buy and plant, and there are no restrictions on what the farmer can do with the seed.

As for limitations on what a property owner can do... contract law and zoning laws cover that. If a person buys a home that has deed restrictions, that person is voluntarily agreeing to abide by those restrictions. If the restrictions are overly burdensome, then the person should buy property elsewhere. Zoning laws are put in place by government, and they limit the use of certain properties for certain things. Of course, the value of zoning laws are subject to debate.

I suppose. If one is dead there would be no way to feed and no need for a right to do so.

Fair point. I will add that anything that costs someone something can't be a right. It can only be a privilege.

I personally believe that many of these laws regarding land use make people more dependent on the government for food. Of course people are lazy too. I have never seen a number for the number of people who do it, but someone on food stamps can actually buy food seeds on their cards to grow their own.
