Thank you for sharing that because it does put a personal perspective on things. The old saying about those that the gods would destroy seems apt given what you witnessed while shopping.

In my own semi-rural area we have one of the highest vaccination rates and a lot of compliance with masks and social distancing. I was asked to be a marshal at a recent protest about a matter not related to Covid. I am only bringing this up because everyone protesting was wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. My job turned out to be ensuring that people remained within the designated protest boundaries and that traffic was not impeded.

So yes, life can be "normal" and continue as before as long as we all act sensibly. And by that I mean get the vaccinations and the boosters, wear masks, social distance and sanitize.

It's kind of as if a certain group of people has just gone stark raving mad.

Indeed it is like these vaxers have gone stark raving mad ... this however is more a function of massive propaganda rather than madness.

My eyes are seeing the stark rise in cases in Eastern Europe start to bleed over into Central Europe, which is not all that surprising.

This is the beauty of my acribic daily tracking, aka the benefit of my nerdiness!

Take a look at Austria, for example:

    2021-10-021 COVID-19 AUSTRIA 000.png

One month ago, Austria was averaging circa +1,700 cases per day. As of today, it is now averaging +2,700 cases per day. That's a statistically significant rise. For a number of weeks, Austria idled back and forth between around +1,700 and +1,800 and then, as of 2021-10-013 (where the blue arrow begins), that 7-day rolling average has shot up consistently.

Austria is currently rank 45 in total cases among all the nations of the world. 36 nations have cleared the 1,000,000-bar. If Austria keeps this pace, then it will add another 192,055 cases to it's current total and land at just under 980,000 total C19 cases by year's end. But if that average rises some, then Austria may very well join the million-club within this year.

What sets little Austria apart from all other nations in the world is it's tests-to-population ratio, which is now 10:1. Yepp, 10 times more tests have been performed in Austria than the actual population. Were the USA to be on par with Austria, then the USA would would have performed 3.3 BILLION tests by now, just to put this into perspective.

The thing with the tests-to-population ratio is that Austria has been at the head of the pack for a long time now (at least 4 months, by my calculations), also during the months when Austria was not far from zero daily cases. So, there is no doubt in my mind that a new wave is forming even in Austria, which has one of the most draconian anti-Covid programs out there.

Also, Hungary is noticeably picking up on cases, Romania continues to explode with cases, Czechia is on a stiff curve upward in cases and some smaller nations I am not even tracking yet (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) are all showing intense +case rises. Little Lithuania just logged +3,058 cases today. Only 2 million people live in all of Lithuania. With almost 380,000 cases, that's an 18.9% infection rate for that entire country. Yesterday, Latvia (pop 1.9 million) clocked-in with +2,599 cases. Currently at 191,321 total cases, Latvia's infection rate is less than Lithuania's but at 10%, still in double digits. And Estonia (pop 1.3 million) clocked-in today already with +1,506 cases. Currently at 177,287 cases, that's a 13.4% infection rate. So a wave has most definitely hit the baltic nations, as Eastern European as it gets.

The newest wave has most definitely begun and the really cold months for the nothern hemisphere have not even started.

THE SIG-FILE EXCEL TRACKING CURRENTLY ENCOMPASSES WORLDWIDE FIGURES + 50 NATIONS
Currently, the figures for worldwide composite figures and 9 of the 50 tracked nations are published here as screenshots on a weekly basis.
That number is likely to jump to 11 of the 50 tracked nations around by the end of October, 2021.

FOR THE OTHER MAJOR RUBRIK CHANGES DURING THIS TIME, SEE RUBRIK TABLE BELOW
    -----------------------------------------
My eyes are seeing the undeniable start of another wave, which is originating mostly in Eastern Europe and has now moved to Central Europe as well. To underscore this point, I did a small analysis of AUSTRIA yesterday, 2021-10-021. It's worth the read. For a number of weeks, the majority of the countries screenshotted in the weekly concise analyses were on the downslope of the Delta-curve. That changed in the last 7 days. Now, 5 of the 10 nations screenshotted here are again on the rise and one moved from "falling" to steady". To make this easier to see, I am underlining those descriptors when they reflect a change over the week before, for instance, in Argentina. In only 1 country in this concise analysis did things move in the opposite direction: Turkey. The USA and India are still on the mend, but cases are again rising in Brazil. Right now, the world is only seeing a slight rise in cases, but I am quite sure that by November, we are going to be in the middle of another wave, perhaps a sizeable one.

Also, there is a purely statistical fluke here: for the worldwide values, there are two values where 3-digits in the value are repeated and for the USA values, it happened one. Can you see them? It's rare for this kind of thing to happen just once and even rarer for it to happen two times in the same rubrik and three times in the same analysis.

It is very likely that Columbia will be joining the weekly concise analyses in the next days, followed by Spain maybe a week later as both are very close to 5,000,000 total confirmed Covid-19 cases right now and will very likely exceed that marker in the next days.

In the concise analysis I just posted about an hour ago, I indicated that a wave really is underway. To underscore this again, 3 nations have already reported in for today, 2021-10-022, one from Eastern Europe, one from Western Europe and one from Far Eastern Europe, closer to Asia minor, they are posted here in alphabetical order. Follow the up-arrows to see how the 7-day rolling averages in +cases has grown dramatically just in the last weeks:

    2021-10-022 COVID-19 BELGIUM 000 - special.png

In Belgium, the +cases average has doubled in the last two weeks. That's statistically significant and a sure sign that Germany (unfortunately) may not be far behind.

    2021-10-022 COVID-19 GEORGIA 000 - special.png

Georgia, a former satellite state of the then-Soviet Union, has seen its +cases triple in less than one month's time. That's statistically significant. Currently, Georgia is rank 49 in my 50 nation tracking.

Likewise, Hungary (below) has seen a more than three-fold increase in +cases in the last month's time. That's statistically significant. If this trend continues and cases explode in Hungary, which btw is barely testing, then Hungary, curently 43 in the 50 nation rankings, will go over the million mark as well.

    2021-10-022 COVID-19 HUNGARY 000 - special.png

What we are not YET seeing is a marked increase in the 7-day rolling average in deaths, which usually happens after the 50% mark in a wave is reached. This alone is empiric evidence that we are seeing the beginning of yet another way, right on top of the end (in most parts of the world) of the last Delta wave. Sad. Really, really sad.

As of right now on 2021-10-022, our world is slightly less than -50,000 away from 5,000,000 total C-19 deaths.

At the current 7-day worldwide average rate of +6,855 deaths per day, if that rate holds, then in 7.3 (8) days, on Saturday, 2021-10-030, our world will break over the 5,000,000-mark in deaths.

I personally cannot imagine the vastness of 5,000,000 graves next to each other. This is just a gruesome number. But to put this in perspective, 5,000,000 C-19 deaths would be as if either:

    - just slightly more than the entire population of Sidney (Australia)
    - exactly the population of Addis Abbaba (Ethiopia), or
    - just slightly less than the population of Melbourne (Australia)

    had suddenly vanished, forever.

    Food for thought.

Yesterday, Friday 2021-10-022, Peru exceeded 200,000 total C-19 deaths, the 6th nation on earth to reach this marker, after the USA, Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia.
To put this in perspective, Peru has roughly 5,000,000 LESS residents than Canada, but 6.5 times more deaths. Very, very sobering. If you will recall, Peru went dark with it's statistics on Monday, 2021-05-031 and then on the next day, Tuesday, 2021-06-011, jumped suddenly from 69,342 C-19 deaths all the way up to 184,507, +115,165 deaths in one day, obviously a clerical issue. The remaining circa 15,500 deaths were clocked in these last five months. Also, on 2021-06-021, Peru stopped logging the number of recovereds and gave no reason for it at all, making Peru the only nation in my tracking that has no recovered/active statistic.

Also, on that same day, Italy exceeded 100,000,000 total C-19 tests performed, the 7th nation on Earth to reach this milestone, after the USA, India, UK, Russia, China and France. Austria, Turkey and the UAE are very likely to go over 100,000,000 such tests performed by year's end.

Also, in the last days, I have been noting the major increase in +case in the East European geography and this is also affecting Bulgaria, which I had been tracking for a while and then removed from the tracking. As of today, because of a sizeable and statistically significant surge, Bulgaria re-enters the tracking, this time as a pre-tracked nation and Azerbaijan is likely to fall out of the tracking. I say likely, because I have a gut-feeling that a wave is going to hit the rest of the former Soviet satellite states. Wait and see.

SIZEABLE COVID-19 WAVE IN UKRAINE, NO END IN SIGHT

Ukraine has already reported in for today: +20,971 fresh infections, roughly double the Sunday value one week before (+11,288). But let's take a look over the last 7 weeks.

    Ukraine, 7-day rolling averages:

    End of August, 2021: +1,490 cases / +41 deaths
    End of September, 2021: +7,565 cases / +141 deaths
End of the third week in September, 2021: +19,176 cases / +462 deaths
I am suspecting that by the end of this month, the 7-day rolling average in Ukraine will be between +23,000-+25,000.

Within 7 weeks, that's 13-fold growth in +cases and 11-fold growth in +deaths. THAT'S a verifiable wave, and a very large one at that.

    Proof:

    2021-10-023 COVID-19 UKRAINE 7-day-rolling average growth 002.png
    2021-10-023 COVID-19 UKRAINE 7-day-rolling average growth 001.png

Yesterday, with +23,229 cases, Ukraine was rank 5 worldwide in +daily cases, behind the UK, Russia, the USA and Turkey. Yes, yesterday the UK was rank 1. Life comes at us fast.

Compared to its total population, the Ukraine is doing even worse than Russia vis-a-vis the pandemic. And we see this spreading to the 3 small baltic states as well.

Good morning, PFers. Calendar week 43 of the year 2021 has now begun.

As of today, 2021-10-025, Russia, which has already reported in for today, has now had 7 days in a row of more than +1,000 Covid-19 deaths per day and 8 out of the last 10 days showed +1,000 or more daily deaths, with the other two days at +997 and +998, respectively.

Also, Russia's 7-day rolling average in +cases is now at +36,080 at current, tendency: rising.

The numbers coming out of Russia are actually way too even. They had probably had just a ton of deaths, are hiding the fact and slowing spreading out the misery over a large number of days. Authoritarian regimes tend to do this kind of stuff so that the frog in the pot of water does not notice that the water temperature is rising.

Doubtless Russia is now in the grip of the worst wave it has experienced thus far and at this pace, will easily clear 10,000,000 total Covid-19 cases and 300,000 total Covid-19 deaths by year's end.

What will be informative will be to see how well (or how poorly) the former Soviet sattelite states do in the next weeks and many of them bought and are using the Russian vaccine, which does not appear to be working well at all. You don't hear the Russkis boasting about their great vaccine, now do you? I don't.

Yesterday, 2021-10-025, Russia went over +1,100 daily deaths, it's 8th day in a row over +1,000 daily deaths, India sailed past 600 MILLION C-19 tests performed, Spain went over 5,000,000 confirmed C-19 cases and therefore enters the weekly concise analyses. And.... The Channel Islands exceeded 1,000,000 total C-19 tests performed, the 121st nation to do so. The population of the Channel Islands (a tourist attraction for the super-rich): 175,968, so we see that more than 5 times the actual population of the Channel Islands has been tested.

    Life comes at us fast.

You sure about the situation at your hospital? Could you substantiate your claims in any way? Here’s data from October 20, 2021.

Here are some Colorado counties with the highest rates of occupancy.

Are you quite sure you aren’t being misled?

So, let's see how this is holding up. On 2021-10-022, five days ago, our world was less than -50,000 away from 5,000,000 total C-19 deaths.

As of EOD yesterday, 2021-10-026, the world stood at 4,978,281 C-19 deaths, -21,719 away from the gruesome 5-millon-marker. On 2021-10-022, the world was averaging +6,855 deaths per day (7-day-rolling-avg), it is currently averaging +7,135 daily deaths: the average has risen somewhat.

21,719 / 7,135 = 3.04 (4 days). Including today (2021-10-027), that puts us at 2010-10-031, squarely at EOM October 2021 when our world will break over the 5-million-mark, but should this average rise just a tad, then it will indeed be on Saturday, 2021-10-030.

And I would like to note that for the very first time in it's Covid-19 history, Germany's C19 death total has stood still at 95,974. This number was first reported on 2021-10-022 and as of 10-023 has not budged. That is very, very unusual for Germany, which is known to be a picky master of paperwork and official stamp. What we know to be historically true (and I have proven on this thread) is that nations that have a stillstand statistic often have a massive jump in that number when the new number is reported, one that is far higher than the average of the days where the number stood still. It may end up that Germany has a major correction in deaths (I assume, in association with old folks homes and also the areas of Germany that were flooded heavily in the summer) and sails over 100,000 C19 deaths practically overnight. Wait and see.

One year ago on this corresponding day (2020-10-026), our world officially clocked in at 1,436,986 (1.4 million) deaths and I would wager that none of us thought we would be at 5 million on year later. This is very sobering for me to think about.

When ever I think my county can not top it anymore, I get proven wrong.
Schools are closed again 700 !!!! kids in quarantine, 10 in the hospital. Incidents figure is now !!! 783 !!!.
But than in Pleasant Ville the parents are outraged that the schools are closed again and send very nasty e-mails to the teachers. I had the pleasure this morning to reed some, a customer who is a teacher.
    Disgusting stuff.

Everybody with a little math skill can figure out what 783 means and how many 1 infected person will infect.
I am back to pre-vaccination routine, even with 3 shots.

All teachers in the district are now offered booster shots

This was a good one today and explains the problem we have.
A customer came in today droping of his coth so we could wash them. Proudly he told as that he tested positive and was under quarantine and did not have to work for 2 weeks. The guy was as proud and happy about it as he could be. Naturally no mask. When I told him to leave immediately with his bag, he got stubborn and angry. When I went for the phone to call the cops he left.
The guy got send into quarantine by his employer and the Health Department, he treats it as payed vacation and runs around town, no mask, doing his things as usual, having fun. Nobody can and is there to enforce a quarantine
No wonder we have such a problem

So, now that it has passed, I wanted to inform you of what has happened within my own family.

My ex-wife contracted Covid-19 just a little less than three weeks ago. She tested positive while our child was already with me for a weekend visit. So, she went into quarantine (and held it perfectly) while we tested daily. We were and still are negative. Luckily, this happened right at the beginning of the 2-week fall break from school, but this week, starting Monday, 2021-10-025, it meant back to school and I got up every morning at 05:30 to make sure that my daughter made it to school on time, through incredibly annoying traffic jams and the like. My kid is staying here through Halloween (we have a strong american H'ween tradition, my daugher and I) and on Monday, she is back with her mother. We went shopping for her mother, took out the trash and placed her mail in front of her door.

Getting Covid-19 also has real implications for people in the family, especially in families where the parents are divorced. It's been quite the learning experience. And I now could sleep for about one week straight through....

Kids are time consuming aren’t they? And when you’re supporting part of the family through quarantine, you will be busier.
    Was your wife very unwell?

Analysis tables for EOM (End of Month) October 2021, 2021-10-031

(UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 UTC -5, East Coast of the USA), Part 1 of 5:
Worldwide and and top 50 nations (split into five postings)

    READ!
The end-of-month analyses are pretty intensive and take time to do well. Here the schedule:

-the following five postings are the screenshots of the Worldwide figures and the top 50 nations. Additionally, 5 nations are currently in pre-tracking: Bulgaria, Guatemala, Belarus, Sri Lanka and Azerbaijan. Bulgaria was actually in the tracking starting 2021-04-023, fell out of the tracking on 2021-07-003 and is now back in. This is the reason why I keep the tabs for countries that exit the tracking, for you never know, they may just become very active again. Bulgaria is the first case of this happening. Belarus was also added to the pre-tracking during this month. Vietnam, which entered the pre-tracking just two month ago, is now over 900,000 cases and will likely top the million-mark in the month of November. This is EXACTLY why I sometimes feel the need to do pre-tracking.

The Worldwide excel table figures will not be posted here as they will receive an individual analysis. Instead, a screenshot (2 pages) of the preliminary Worldwide figures from WorldOMeter plus the 50 nations currently being tracked will be posted as proof of the veracity of the data.

-later on in this day I will publish the final USA figures in the form of a slim, unplanned analysis, covering EOM for the month in question. It was not planned that I would continue the USA monthly analyses but then came the Delta Surge in my homeland during the summer of 2021, so I think that a special analysis continues to be in order as was the case at EOM July, August and September 2021. But I am very pressed for time, it will be a really slim report.

-Tomorrow, on 2021-11-002, I will then publish the end-analysis for the Worldwide figures for 2020-09-030. WorldOMeter has a "2 days ago" function at its main table, which allows us to wait one more day to see the final numbers. The advantage to this is that nations that may be adjusting their total figures will have one more day to do so. The worldwide analysis will be quite extensive, with the new luxury table I have been using having been expanded not only to include the 7-day rolling averages in +cases and +deaths but also the monthly +case and +death averages, for better context. The new probability table for the tracked nations currently under 1,000,000 cases, which I added last month, will be continued.

Note: because EOM fell on a Sunday and Spain is one of 4 nations that reports no weekend numbers, however, Spain updates them retroactively, the current data for Spain is more likely than not actually preliminary and will be updated with the full world-wide report or just published separately.

I've eliminated a lot of extra text in these five postings. If you want to see where the virus has grown or receded, then take a good look at the monthly + numbers (+cases and +deaths over EOM of the month before), at columns P and Q in row three for EOM this month and in row 34 for EOM of the month before. The exact growth rates will be calculated on a separate table, as always.

    So, let's get started.

    WORLDWIDE:
The Worldwide EOM analysis for will be published on 2021-11-002

Sometimes I publish the "Tracking Tree" on the last day of the month, sometimes here with this posting, depending on my time-availability. It will be in the worldwide analysis as well:
