With the exception of the Libertarian Party, platforms are as meaningless as the federal oath of office, which is incessantly violated by the duopoly.

Depends on what you consider pub. The party since trump is a fragmented party. I dont look at Trumpers as Republicans. A True conservative doesnt do what Trump does, nor do they support overturning democratic elections just because their guy got his ass kicked. There are too many radical extremists that have split the party. Look what Trump has done

    Lost the Senate
    Lost the Presidency
Lost GA as a state (and by a huge margin)
    Lost AZ as a state

Then there are people like MTG. What a nutjob she is.

Maine Republicans propose monthly checks for taxpayers

The plan calls for splitting unused monthly revenue — sending half to the state’s rainy day fund and half to taxpaying residents. The proposal is in line with LePage’s campaign promise of eliminating the state’s income tax if he wins in 2022.

I think it all should go to the rainy day fund . for emergencies only

Middle schmiddle. All that is required is an understanding of the common good and the will to address it. Federal government doesn't deal with the common good. It deals with power and control. It is the same thing political parties are about. If we could get away from the concept of wanting and getting personal perks from the government, the problem would be solved. Self interest is a powerful human trait. It is very hard to defeat. I think single term limits would help a bit. Get rid of re-election and you reduce the desire to buy votes.

ok, i'm going to try this hopefully without breaking any rules. this is a reply to hockeyaddict. you claim republicans aren't good for the usa. fine. i got this from a friend of mine. so i have no address to any posted story from which it came. under joe biden this country is going down hill in a hand basket. imo not attacking you, just my opinion. here are some examples.

now if you would how has biden done better with any of these. i'm interested in learning where you think biden is better than trump. thanks. and no offence ment to you.

Yes, I agree. We are being split into groups and divided for the benefit of the ruling class.

When the people are so divided they can't elect a functional government, the executive moves in and rules by decree, by dictate, by fiat.

Not very "Ind" of you now is this? Tell me, what do you think an "Ind" is? Seems to me that you think its someone that isn't a part of a party but still must toe some line or other. Naturally that line is set by...you.

Here is what an "Ind" is to me. It is someone that not only doesn't follow any party but is someone that has NEVER followed a party. It is someone that does their own research and only bases their response on that research. And they do their research on each and every subject that interests them enough to talk about. Be it free speech, gun rights, abortion, transgenderism, sexuality etc etc etc. And they follow their own "inner voice" after doing that research to decide how they lean in any given issue. An "Ind" will not listen to just one side. They will listen to all sides. And none. Coming to their own conclusions. And they will vote for someone based on that persons policy. Regardless of what party a person holds. Republican. Democratic. Green. Libertarian. Doesn't matter. Its the policy that counts.

An "Ind" is not someone who once followed a party but grew disillusioned with how their party is now so left it. The reason is that they still hold the same values, beliefs as their party once held. Which means that they are still a part of that party, even if that party doesn't necessarily represent them to the degree that they once did. In other words its the difference between a Liberal following the Democratic Party vs a Progressive that is a part of the Democratic Party. There are differences in beliefs. But in the end that person will still vote for the Democratic Party over the Republican Party.

Americans more and more are beginning to think third party as many are getting fed up with both parties. While it would be an uphill battle, it is possible to to place a a viable candidate on the ballot for president with a chance to win. Electing a third party candidate would force the other two parties to clean up their act or sit on the sidelines for long periods of time.

    Agree with Mayer.

The way we do business is another problem—incentives are all screwed up. That captures media and social media issues.

I don’t agree with term limits (mentioned in the thread) though would address it in another manner. With exception to a Presidents second term you shouldn’t be able to run for office past your 67th birthday: 74 would be the oldest a President could be, 72 a Senator, 68 a Representative.

While I’ll surely be accused of agism I simply believe it would serve us better than term limits in the long run. Would likely need to adjust retirement packages though.

The duopoly is a wholly corrupt institution that serves its own interests over those of the people. The only functional difference between the two major parties is the cartoon animals on their stationery.

Not all of us. And there is apparently a special place in hell reserved for those of us who dare criticize our vaunted political masters.

Your criticism of Trump has merit. However, you forgot to include Biden in your remarks. And I think thus you miss the point of this thread. The fact that this nation elevates either man to the top spot proves the argument of the OP.

However, we the people have empowered the duopoly to insure that never happens.

This problem gets fixed the day 435 new Representatives and 33 new Senators take the oath of office.

In other words, we are stuck with this issue until the Republic collapses. Everyone agrees Congress is the issue, since their approval rating is around 10%. Everyone also agrees that the "other" 532 people are the issue. Their three personal congress critters are doing a bang up job, since re-election rate is well over 90%.

You're probably correct, however I think if enough people were to get fed up, change could occur.

Given the current state of affairs since at least 2016, I can't imagine any rational person not being fed up.
