    It seems like every effort to house the poor falls flat. Here we have Trump’s “opportunity zones,” but housing blight continues while the rich make off with the money and build hotels and money-making buildings instead of combined multi-unit housing and retail buildings.

    So, the question comes up, how are we going to house the poor? Nothing is working.

    Yes it does. And I can tell you why.

    Most all of these ideas to house the poor are based on some false premises.
    First, that the poor have to be given housing conditions just like everyone else, and that is the singular option that should be pursued. Either that or nothing.
    The second is that the poor absolutely need housing where they already are.

    I think both of these two ways of thinking get in the way of easy progress that could be made.
