The New York Times is standing by its hiring of tech writer Sarah Jeong despite several derogatory tweets of hers aimed at white people, which were recently unearthed on her Twitter account.

“Oh man it's kind of sick how much joy I get out of being cruel to old white men,” Jeong wrote in July 2014 in one of several old messages that have gone viral.

Social media reactions first flared on Wednesday with images of incendiary tweets from an unverified Twitter account that looked to belong to Jeong. They surfaced shortly after The Times announced she was joining the paper. The Times issued a statement on Thursday declaring that it had reviewed her social media history during the hiring process and was standing by the decision to bring her aboard...

Jeong’s Twitter feed is filled with a host of messages that could be construed as racist and offensive. Jeong compared “dumbass f-----g white people” to dogs, said that “old white men” were “lemmings,” opined that white people would “go extinct soon,” and used the hashtag #CancelWhitePeople.

“Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins,” she wrote in 2014 before adding a graph claiming that “whiteness” resulted in being “awful.”

Ok. Where are the links to the actual tweets? Why are you not providing the context in which those phrases are used, such as the complete tweets etc? What are you hiding from?

My next questions are why do you care about the old tweets of a New York Times tech writer that 'could be construed as...'

Sorry. This is an old report that I just learned about on Jimmy Dore. Mods can delete thread as it's not a current event.

Well, as a professional reporter this is pretty disgusting behaviour.

At the link. Some were not replies.

I'm struggling to give a pass to this one.

Well, my feeling is media on both sides should be a bit more equanimous. Keep the private stuff private.

Not really. I don't expect the OP author to maintain specific [professional standards other than try to provide his own source.

This was discussed on political forums all over the Internet including this one, at the time of its occurrence.

The fact that the New York times actually kept AND defended her is simply proof that racism against white people is now acceptable.

But I know that your side would like to flush this down the memory hole as apparently you already have

I just found the tweets really distasteful - and actually racist.

If she had stuck to old white men in the context of Trump. maybe...she took it way too far.

The source is included. I posted the edit one second after the D asked for the source.

The rest of you should have just read to confirm it was missing before ironically questioning my professionalism.

So it would be okay to discriminate and be racist against whites based on their politics?

How the **** is any of that considered “construed to be racist and offensive”.

On what ****ing planet is ANY of that NOT considered racist and offensive? White people are the only group whom those statements could be made about and it be described as “construed to be racist and offensive”.

As I always say, if it’s racist if you shift the race to anything other than “white” and it suddenly offends a Leftist, it was already racist to begin with. ;)

Racism and the left go together.

as long as that racism is directed at white people.

    :roflol::roflol::roflol:

THIS STORY IS OVER 3 YEARS OLD!
    DATED August 2, 2018
    :bored::bored::bored:

Not sure what an article from Over 39 Months Ago (3 Years and 3 Months Ago) is doing in "Current" Events?:smh:
    ___________
But, since I would never want to be seen as posting off-topic...
Even in threads based on Egregiously Ancient Articles...
Here is an update on Ms.Jeong:
Per Wiki--Jeong is still with the Times...
In August 2019, Jeong left The New York Times's editorial board, becoming an opinion columnist with the newspaper

As far as the ANCIENT Controversy (that you, apparently, consider a Current Event):

In August 2018, Jeong was hired by The New York Times to join its editorial board as lead writer on technology. The hiring sparked a strongly negative reaction in conservative media, which highlighted derogatory tweets about white people that Jeong had posted mostly in 2013 and 2014.Critics characterized her tweets as being racist; Jeong released an apology, saying that the tweets were meant to satirize online harassment toward her as a woman of color. Editors at The Verge defended Jeong, saying that the tweets had been disingenuously taken out of context

Glad that I could be of service in straightening that out...

    Carry on and You're Welcome...:flagus:

I am disinterested in her 'racist' tweets. There is nothing about those tweets from years back that suggests she is not a very skilled writer about technology issues. If the New York Times decided that that any poor judgement shown back then, need not reflect a pattern in her employment impacting her professional performance in that role, then they should have felt completely free to employ her.

Not a fan of holding people's paychecks hostage for years or decades to ensure they toe the line in their personal speech from cradle to grave. I am glad the Times defended their choice.

Now pretend that her racism was directed at black people....

I am not interested in doing any such thing. You may notice that I put the adjective 'racist' in single quotes and it modifies the noun 'tweet' and not any person's name. Each of those choices of mine were designed to serve specific purposes so that people like you would not confuse or expand my meaning beyond what I posted.

If you are asking whether I am consistent regardless of the race of the employee, or the target, I will have you check my posting history. With some professional exceptions, I do not generally like the idea of employers playing the role of enforcers of social, political and cultural norms through their employment practices. If I were the New York Times, I would employ her just as they did, and monitor her work for any signs of unprofessional judgement, just as they inevitably do with new employees, and call this old history.

Woke 101: Racism is abhorrent. Unless it's the right kind of racism.

It is diected at non-whites, too. Only they have the nerve to call it "compassion."

We already know about the left's white genocide agenda. This is nothing new. My advice to whites, breed as much as possible and ARM UP!
Don't sweat the financial part of being a baby daddy (black men do this all the time).
lets re-cap, wanna save america? Unprotected sex and guns! Simple!

Well at least you've moved on to accepting that she actually said these things like at first you kept asking for a link even though this very topic was covered at length here at the time

    And, So What?

    Who?
    Jeong?
I wasn't privy to her history of K-12 Schooling.
In case you didn't notice, Jeong IS the topic of THIS thread...
