What is there to think about? Non-citizens can't vote, shouldn't vote and that's a full stop.

It’s legal for non-citizens to vote. And they’ve been voting for quite a while now.

Dems want illegals to vote, they always have. They want open borders to. It’s no secret.

I didn't read the linked article in the OP, but with my gift of common sense, I'm going to say that we're talking about <whatever> people that are not currently allowed to vote or this wouldn't be something to propose.

Talking about voting in city wide elections. There’s no federal law that restricts that.

Yeah. Why not. New York can start becoming more of the **** hole it already is, but at a faster rate! Please vote in allll the left leaning failed policies that are working such wonders in your other democratic states! I want a good laugh.

Are municipal elections under Federal law jurisdiction? If not, it sounds like this is just busy work so people can keep fighting amongst themselves. One side or the other has to have legal precedent behind them.

He must think illegals vote for Democrats. And you know he's 200% correct!

They are not. They’re already communities that allow non-citizens to vote in local elections such as school boards

Yes. That is how it's been in all the municipal elections in areas where I live. I believe it's governed by the percentage of tax dollars paid to the local government but I'm not completely sure. I've never looked into it.

The craziest part is that we were married over a decade before having children and paid, via local taxes, for one of the best school systems in the state. We moved due to a job transfer and never got the benefit of our children entering that school system.

I'm simply burnt out on all the bickering. We're all Americans and until we get past our <whatever feeling about whatever> and work together, we are digging our own graves. It won't take long for it implode when our enemies are eyeing the prize.

They want to get them accustomed to voting in local (city and county) elections so those people will view voting in state and national elections as only logical, and will even feel entitled to do so.

Actually, non citizens can vote in some local elections in a few places in America.

Google: Right of foreigners to vote in the United States. You should get the Wiki page. Federal law does not prohibit non citizens from voting in state or local elections but no state currently allows non citizens to vote in state elections. However, depending on the state, some local governments do have the power to allow non citizens to vote in local elections. Of course, those ballots wold be restricted to specific local issues and would not include any state or federal offices. Maryland has ten such local governments and San Francisco lets noncitizen parents vote in School Board elections. American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands allow noncitizen US nationals to vote. (Wikipedia)

They can't vote in national elections. It is up to states and localities to decide who can vote in their elections. The marxists march on toward their goals.

    Fair enough.

However, my point was/is that some subset of our society can't vote or this would not be an issue. It clearly doesn't apply to those that can.

I concede that I should have differentiated this in my earlier post.

This bill will NOT allow illegal immigrants to vote.

This only covers Green Card holders and people with a Work Visa.

Did you even read your link?
The bill calls for allowing city residents with green cards or work authorizations the ability to vote if they have been living in the city for at least 30 days prior to an election. Langworthy said it would "allow foreign powers … the ability to influence U.S. elections."

What ever happened to "No taxation without Representation"???

Legal immigrants pay federal, state and local taxes. Shouldn't they get the right to vote?

the quote from my source: The bill calls for allowing city residents with green cards or work authorizations the ability to vote if they have been living in the city for at least 30 days prior to an election. Langworthy said it would "allow foreign powers … the ability to influence U.S. elections." now this quote: in no way says that they will bar illegals from voting. iirc, nyc has (easy vote registering) by mail or same day registering at the polling site. so how do they check who has a "green card or a authorization to work" with that. they can't ask blacks, latinos, hations, or may other people from other nations.--- why?--- that is racist!!! so illegals will be allowed to vote, because they can't check to see who or what they are. :)

No, they should complete the path to citizenship before gaining the powers of citizenship.

I’m not a fan of this even a little bit.

Even if your are here on a work visa, how are they to know the issues, how those issue will effect hem, or their effect on the city as a whole if your only here for 30 days ?

I’m honestly not sure how this is a good thing for anyone except the politicians.

How does it make sense that non-citizens can vote? Anywhere?

Does an American citizen expect to go hang out in Europe and vote in France or Germany's elections?

Why would any American be for this?
