I did not know states can have their own military forces. I would feel weird about it if Florida was first, but apparently almost half of all states have these forces. Do you think these little armies can grow into separatist movements?

You mean the first to switch back to having its own militia? Militias are a right under the constitution. It's the original structure of the military.

California has one. They are non armed and function as a backup for the national guard particularly in emergency preparations, like earthquakes, fires, and floods.

Brush up on your State constitutions =

Article X, Section 2 of the Florida State constitution =
    Section 2
    Text of Section 2:
    Militia

    (a) The militia shall be composed of all ablebodied inhabitants of the state who are or have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States; and no person because of religious creed or opinion shall be exempted from military duty except upon conditions provided by law.

    (b) The organizing, equipping, housing, maintaining, and disciplining of the militia, and the safekeeping of public arms may be provided for by law.

    (c) The governor shall appoint all commissioned officers of the militia, including an adjutant general who shall be chief of staff. The appointment of all general officers shall be subject to confirmation by the senate.

    (d) The qualifications of personnel and officers of the federally recognized national guard, including the adjutant general, and the grounds and proceedings for their discipline and removal shall conform to the appropriate United States army or air force regulations and usages.[1]

He probably has the jurisdiction to enact such, but what would it do that the FL National Guard couldn't do, let alone the cost, including the startup. In addition, the next gov could just as well abolish it.

I think it’s good for our state to have such a paramilitary group - it allows the governor to deal with certain things without relying on federal government. The state doesn’t seem to have any financial issues, so I think we can afford it. And it’s nice to know that if BLM hood tries to do some peaceful looting the governor can quickly front some serious force.

Every state has a military. We call it National Guard. I doubt Florida needs another one.

This proposal is a sort of improvement and enlargement of the existing system. You could say it's more growth of government, which is potentially dangerous, but in this case it might be appropriate given the rhetoric and actions of POTUS.

This action is a recognition of the spirit and letter of the 10th Amendment.

POTUS still has ultimate control of National Guard. This group would fall solely under the Governor's authority. And keep in mind.... it's 200 members. Not sure why peeps are getting their panties in a bunch....

It's the thugs that follow BLM that are extremely concerning. Again, over 2 billion in damages from them in 2019-2020.

They are arguing about that as we speak, since the new AG in Oklahoma has said there will be no shot mandates for Oklahoma NG troops.

I’m in the process of raising a family. When you raise kids crime is a big no-no.
Also, it’s nice to have out of town visitors and not be embarrassed by trashed downtown and shuttered businesses. I’m not afraid of BLM, I just recognize them as a dangerous racist organization whose followers tend to commit crimes (not accusing anyone of anything, just making observations), which means you don’t want your kids anywhere near the areas where BLM is active.
When I was in my 20’s clubbing and snorting blow I didn’t give a damn about crime too, but the world you live in when you are in 20s is very different from the world you live in when you are pushing 40 and raising a family. I’m all for equality (not equity), but I do not think we should tolerate crime in the name of useless woke slogans.

Oh you mean that organization that did upwards of 50 mil in damages in a small town last year on mostly minority owned homes and businesses? The one that screams in peoples faces, threatening violence if they don't raise their fist in the air? The one one that gets violent against anyone who doesn't step in line with it's bullshit messaging?

And which who, most recently had a radical BLM advocate hop into an SUV and plow into a group of white people?

    That BLM?

What is your real opposition to the Governor implementing such a task force? Many other states such as California, Washington, Oregon, NY and other states have the state guards that fall under only Governor control. Why do you oppose this one state having one?

civil defense has been around for a long time and used to be called upon during natural disasters. They would possess local knowledge and have more of coordinator roles as other relief efforts rolled into the area. They are also volunteers much like volunteer fire departments.

As an aside, I am 100% behind states taking back responsibility of things that they are supposed to do. If state X likes woke education policies or to decriminalize certain crimes, then folks have a choice to leave or stay in the state

If state Y wishes to invoke common-sense policies, again folks can choose to leave or stay

That is supposed to be the theme of 50 states. Each one can be unique but a common currency, agreement upon certain common laws etc.

I don't see why they'd want a specifically military force for the purposes quoted. That would suggest something closer to a state version of FEMA rather than a state version of the National Guard. The whole thing feels much more political the practical.

    Exactly!
They don’t give a damn about local community. That’s why they loot and commit crimes.
