Michigan GOP members are actually actively pushing for a school voucher program so hopefully they won’t have to deal with this attitude for much longer. Democrats are attacking a basic concept of raising your own kids. As if their decision for your kids is more important than the parents own decisions. I’m extremely against this mentality that falls in line with brainwashing your kids.

Parents know what’s best for their kids, I will never waiver on that point. To allow the government to tell you what’s best is pushing their ideals and not yours.

Do private schools even offer a choice in what their students are learning? They don’t really.

As a person who went to a public school and learned things my bio parents didn’t learn? I support this attitude. Parents, don’t interfere with education unless it’s for a good reason.

Do you think a set of parents who couldn't graduate from middle school know what is the best lesson plan for teaching children Math? Physics? History? Music?
    Really?

I don’t think they do and don’t understand the concept of epistemological humility.

So now you’re accusing these parents of being uneducated. Who would have guessed this was in your bag of tricks. Even if true, Is this the mentality of the left, to claim that the uneducated can’t hold an opinion on their own kids.

who are you to say that they know less what their kids need than you? Who are you to say that the uneducated farmer, soldier, or truck driver is dumber than you or these teachers? Just because they may not know math doesn’t meant they don’t want math being taught. Just because they may not know as many fancy words doesn’t mean they can’t spot out racism.

This high rise pedestal you’re talking from doesn’t make you look smart either. Everyone should have a say in their kids education.

Maybe you can show me proof they did not graduate middle school. And they most definitely deserve to say what their kids learn.

I mostly agree with your points BUT parents don't always know what is best for their kids. Just look at the lowest tier who teach their kids how to play the government. I've even known parents who teach their kids how to steal in order to get through life. I don't like the far right brainwashing their kids or the far left brainwashing their kids (or having schools do it for them). When you're talking about public school there is obviously a lot of lefty brainwashing and parents need to have a say in what their kids are taught in schools. To think that government or those in power know best what to teach our kids isn't much different than either the far left or the far right indoctrinating innocent children.

I'm going to say the lack of awareness of sarcasm is probably enough proof for me.

Or the ability to see sarcasm when not actually present shows what? Because there was no sarcasm in his post. He emphasized it with “Really?”, he quite literally meant what he said.

The very good reason is that it's the parent's kids, not the state's.

I am pretty sure the graduates of teacher's colleges don'i know that either. Public school teachers are a vey unimpressive lot, as a rule. I am quite convinced that in any middle class school district there is a parent more familiar with the subject matter than any subject matter teacher in the school system. Why shouldn't those parents have a say?

Here are some parents and concerned citizens who should have a say in public school education:

Hundreds of highly distinguished science and math professors have signed an open letter expressing "urgent concern" over California’s efforts to reform mathematics education in the name of social justice.

The letter, signed by 597 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals, said the California Department of Education’s (CDE) proposed new mathematics framework will aim to reduce achievement gaps by limiting the availability of advanced mathematical courses to middle schoolers and beginning high schoolers, making it more challenging for students to succeed in STEM at college.

You have parents that know a subject, and then you have parents who think they know a subject, but do not.
Example - look at all the "bright" people on this forum who think the 1st Amendment applies to private business.

Parents don't always know what's best for their kids. That's why so many family are dealing with truancy, underage drinking, curfew violatons, weapons being stolen to shoot up a bunch of kids at school.

Also, if you believe this issue is the grassroots effort to brainwash our school-age children, you are approximately 400 years too late.

You need to waiver on that point. Cmon.
Parents with the down syndrome -who need general help themselves- really do not know what is best for their child just because they happen to be the parents of their child.

That's really a total insult to people who studied to teach children.

And who came up with this fine art of teaching children? I’m pretty sure they were parents. It’s not an insult. They are not teaching kids they are indoctrinating them. Teaching kids what to think is not up to them.

Your idea that "I gave birth, and so I know what is best for my kid" remains a total joke and an insult to teachers who learned a trade.

I gave an example in my previous post. I can expand that by adding that child protective services got plenty of work to do.
Convicted child rapist, meth heads, ku klux clan members, they can all be parents with idea's what to do with a kid.
They aint the best of idea's one bit.

Again… who was the original person that came up with the idea to teach kids? The idea that some Ivy League grad is more fitting to teach kids with no input from the parents is a joke. Here is the problem with society and you are showing it as a great example.

you’re suggesting that somehow the idea of a degree makes one better as a person than someone who is not. Most of these Ivy League grads wouldn’t know how to get their own food outside of a grocery store. They know nothing as far as I’m concerned. They have no life experience that gives them any kind of respect from me.

as far as the KKK parent, I don’t care what they teach their kids. They’re not the ones teaching racism in schools right now. It’s the democrats who are teaching that whites as a race are the problem

I don't understand the uproar on this issue. Truly. When I was going through school, parents had no say in what we were taught. Nor were their parents. We all got a good education, leaving it up to the 'professionals'. The issue now, I believe, has more to do with politics than actually schooling for their kids.

My parents had to worry about CRT or people segregating their kids parents today do.
