Complying with unreasonable, unscientific, irrational requests harms both yourself and the person whose irrationality you are enforcing. Masks are dirty, and wearing one on your face can be harmful both physically and psychologically. More to the point, humans exchange a vast array of information through facial expression and denying a litigant before the Court the ability to read the judge's faces to ascertain their leanings or response to your statements implicates the interests of justice.

He should have done exactly as he did, politely declined the request he be masked when he sits over a dozen feet away from the 2 who were much afeared and able to appear remotely.

It seems that it goes beyond common decency to force people to wear masks that have already proven to be ineffective. Nothing hard about. Nothing sensible about it either.

I just can't believe you folks continue to spew unscientific nonsense.

    Conclusion
Our review of the literature offers evidence in favor of widespread mask use as source control to reduce community transmission: Nonmedical masks use materials that obstruct particles of the necessary size; people are most infectious in the initial period postinfection, where it is common to have few or no symptoms (45, 46, 141); nonmedical masks have been effective in reducing transmission of respiratory viruses; and places and time periods where mask usage is required or widespread have shown substantially lower community transmission.

For making an unreasonable, unscientific, irrational request that harms the person the request is made of, and implicates the interests of justice?

Yes. I'm not sure how to explain it better than: Numbers does not equate to moral high ground.

Why are you linking me to a thread about you saying you go to the gym?
What does you being a super spreader have to do with this thread?
You can work out at home and not put people in danger
It’s sad when folks don’t practice what they preach
What’s your workout anyway? Do you tape a picture of trump to the heavy bag and go nuts on it?

If a coworker asks you to be kind enough to put on a mask in a meeting, because of their medical condition puts them in the high risk covid group, and you show them the proverbial middle finger, that's being a di&k. Obviously, she can't force him to wear the mask, but is is a lack of decency to not wear it.

Sure it does. The masks are dirty and keep particles next to your airhole that would not be there otherwise.
Its also harmful to the interests of justice because you don't get the full breadth of human communication from the justices.

I must have been right then. Sotomayor was afraid masks and vaccines don't work. Apparently she knew that Gorsuch actually had a better mask than she did.

As a higher risk person with diabetes she is concerned about a breakthrough case. I'm sure she knows mask wearing and vaccinations offer a pretty high level of protection. More than I can say for you.

Perhaps but it has nothing to do with medical science. People can embrace the hysteria but I think forcing that hysteria on others is a middle finger as well.

The resolution is not to breathe life in to baseless conspiracy theories that have been discussed, debunked, rehashed, debunked, raised from the dead, debunked, and then debunked again. Like claims the election was stolen, or whether Mueller exonerated Trump, or other such nonsense...........like the science behind COVID protocols.

    • Everyone 2 years or older who is not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in indoor public places.

If anything exemplifies the alternate reality created for conservatives by right wing media it's the posts by conservatives in this thread.

No answer the first time, so I'll ask again:
Has anyone asked whether Gorsuch has some medical condition that makes mask wearing inadvisable?

Did he state that he was refusing to wear a mask because of some condition he had? Has anyone claimed that was his reason?

He has made no claim. People often prefer not to discuss their medical business publicly.
